Media Minecraft Discussion Thread

Ok gents some wonderful news. Since notch has released the "release candidate" (here) for reviewers we are relatively certain the map seeds will not change.
So we need your help to find the ideal seed in the social group here.

Please post them there, as there will be a lot of back and forth.

Also this (disgusting) Creeper vid

Well for anyone not just satisfied with Minecraft for the PC, there's now an app for that; apparently the pocket version (last seen on the unused xperia play on android) is now an iOS app too. Granted, $7 for basic creative mode is a tad redundant considering you can just fire up the PC for the full experience, but it's good for designing on the go I guess?

I never deleted the old SmogCraft ip address from my minecraft server browser, and it seems that address has been... reallocated.

I invaded, escaped the walls by boat, and built an underground lair from which to stage a resistance! The entrance is at x: 20, z: 100, in a sinkhole in the swamp. There's some supplies in a chest there. Smogcraft will rise again!

Seriously, though, don't trash this Danish guy's server; he's nice.

EDIT: I ran into asdf, and we relocated New Smogcraftia to x: 256, z: 256, in a valley between the mountains. Much more aesthetically pleasing than the hole in the ground I was in before, but the old base is still there if anyone wants to do anything with it.

Come play! Smogcraft lives again!

Umm 1.9 pre-releases have been out for like a month now. Which is odd because there isn't even going to be a 1.9! It's on "Release Candidate 2" now, which is the build that Notch said can be reviewed by magazines. There will continue to be updates after the full release at Minecon. I know alpha players get every future update/expansion for free but not sure on beta+

I believe Beta was just a discount price, they weren't guaranteed any other benefits.

Which actually brings up a legit question: when future expansions are released, are we gonna have them mandatory on the Smogon server or will we stay at the released version? Or should we just cross that bridge when the time comes? :p

Well considering they just had prerelease tags on them the whole time (before they announced that it'd just go to retail I was waiting for the final 1.9), never bothered to download the prerelease since the server was 1.8 at the time...

This is kinda minecraft, but I drew a picture for my friend's gaming YouTube channel which will quite likely involve minecraft

I hope that there won't be DLC I have to pay for, DLC makes me a sad panda since they're usually not worth it at all.

we cant get the server live until bukkit updates unless you want another useless intrim map. And i think that we should get a form of team speak for the server with skype, steam, mumble or something else.

I won't lie, I have no clue what bukkit is...guess it's something to do with hosting a server or something? Perhaps you can explain that to me, as I don't get it...

And you do realize stuff like ventrilo, mumble, etc cost money (though skype is free from person to person right?). I don't get what's wrong with just doing in-game chat, it's not like this a true mmo when you'd really need that to coordinate better against a raid boss. Sure it might help building stuff faster, but other than that I don't see the point honestly...

i thought it would just be cool to talk to the people who you are playing with instead os sitting in silence and listening to the jkjnfgdsxcfgvhlmnbgvfdszxdf of your keyboard.

You mean the game music isn't good enough? :P

By all means if someone wanted to throw one up it'd be fine, but just saying it costs quite a bit of money for not that tangible benefits.

Bah the 8-player online cap is pretty solid evidence that it won't be compatible with current PC versions. Even ignoring the whole compatibility issue, for a game that thrives on communities an 8-player cap is pretty low (especially when you can bring a guest). Really hope that gets bumped up to at least 16, especially since it's compatible between Xbox and GFWL.

EDIT: Actually that 8-player cap may just be for servers hosted on an Xbox. I don't really see why a player couldn't join a larger server than that, they just couldn't host it. Cross-compatibility with PC is back on the table!

I would say give me a PS3 version instead of icky Xbox, but as we have the PC version, no real point lol.

I just hope this won't turn into "Plants VS Zombies" syndrome, where just about every version on all the different platforms offer different modes and stuff from each version.

Xbox version woulld be cool
If I had an Xbox
idk how much of an uptake it will get, if it'll be big or just a little aside from the PC version
also i hope minecraft pocket edition will get survival soon
