I'm seriously in favour of keeping the border small (500 or 750, say) until 1.9. I don't want to have a huge trek to find working villages, strongholds, snow/mushroom biomes, or whatever. Besides, everyone should be helping build an amazing spawn town for a while anyway, not immediately plowing off thousands of blocks away. The problem we had with the old server was that people went miles away and didn't use the acres of space that was between them and spawn. Increasing border size only when needed encourages this.
I just realized what the use for the snowmen golems is. Arming snow forts! :D
First one frankly.
at this point why don't we just have an interim map until the full release, since its only 2 months away. it seems like a long time but it really isnt, especially with new changes coming. we can perfect different farming designs/buildings and such!

I also like the idea of the interim map, maybe we can construct a bunch of different-styled cities and possibly even vote on the theme we can have for the spawn

I agree with samo on the border issue, keep it small until we get the full adventure update. And as small as we can manage after that since there were so many things i didnt visit in old smogcraft due to being 0975875086 miles away (valley)
okay and i dont mind waiting until 1.9 to start the map but im not sure about full release depending on how much is actually being added/changed for it.

I found this pretty sweet village but i guess they all left because it was flooded. SO i helped them out by building little wooden walkways and a big house thing how nice am i

buff, those town designs are fuckin awesome. i really really dig the exaggerated tudor style, especially with the house that keeps getting wider as it gets taller, and the little extra rooms sort of attached to the sides with the brick and sandstone walls. really really awesome design. i also really dig the sort of fortress-y stone border arches around the sides. it looks great, keeps the town together clean and snug, and also is high enough to protect from any asshole creepers that might wander into town.
EDIT: here's a guy that did maps of ninety nine minecraft seeds, just in case we want to use one of those or you just wanna check em out

-Swamps are indeed more swampy, complete with lilypads and darker grass and water textures
-still searching for villages and mushrooms
-BIG NETHER TOWER THINGS, with khazad dum bridge things
-new nether mobs, a spinny thing that spits fireballs and a springy fire slime. These drop things but I don't know what they do.
