Media Minecraft Discussion Thread

i think the farm we had at this current interim map was pretty good. the furnace forge was almost too big (most people have their own), but the flower/seed room was great. i think its important to remember that a lot of users want to build their own farms though, so they're not necessarily using the public ones so much. maybe in the beginning when everyone's still gathering supplies and getting themselves settled, but after that i think that most people want to be more independent. i mean, i was anyway.

i'm down for building an apartment though, dude. just gotta keep in mind the independent/public thing; people are gonna wanna live in their own house they built for themselves. im not sure how everyone would like the spawn area town to look, cause i heard a lot of different ideas, but i think it would be fun to have a really urban looking city somewhere, with tight paved streets laid out like a grid and tall buildings. maybe we could even build something like that there? i dunno man.

i understand everyone is gonna want their own house but this would be for new players/when we first start the server

completely irrelevant but brick + stone brick is a really pretty theme for a town and we should 100% use it in the spawn town

personally i don't like brick at all but stone brick is really nice!!

stone brick and logs?

wood?

<-- would love to join the server, what's the name?

I might be new at Minecraft, but one thing I do have is plenty of time to do is to farm for stuff XD

please read the thread

to join any server you need an ip not a name and we are planning for the new server which is soon to be launched

Where in the thread? There's over 50 pages now and I just joined this thread recently and didn't see anything on the front page where summaries would usually go :(

Guess I'll wait though if one's waiting to go up.

READ THE WHOLE THING.

I mean, wait a bit, and once we get the server up, PM me, Dan, forks, or Layell with your MC name.

I don't like this unorganic spawn talk. Having a theme for homebase is a bit odd don't you think? It doesn't reflect our growth!

I've always wanted spawn to look like a metropolis. It's like that "Whoah" moment and really contrasts with surrounding farmland, and would be easy to see from a distance.

I've been on a creative server where the spawn is set up to teleport to various parts of the map (of course I think they have several servers set up or something, because the map is HUGE), but anyways, my point is that the spawn is a huge building at the center of the development and there are many, many building surrounding it as well. I don't think that a theme would be all that bad tbqh.

Yeah, but it doesn't really provide much room for further development.

Yeah, but it doesn't really provide much room for further development.

How so? I mean, we're talking about Minecraft here. It's not like you can't build skyscrapers or dig giant chasms. Besides, the spawn isn't something that people build their own crap by. It should be a community center in which people can pool resources together. From then on out, we develop outside of spawn as much as we want. In my opinion, if we want a good looking spawn that will make newcomers gape, then we should go forward with a theme-based spawn. If you want development, you can always move further away from spawn, set your home, and build outside of it.

i 100% disagree with this statement.

if we do a smaller metropolis, we can just add districts as warrented. or: we could make a "yellow brick road" of sorts and lead to smaller villages. i would push for road systems over rail systems this time around since: it saves iron, and encourages closer builds.

ps: in a metropolis you can always build up!

Building a sprawling metropolis is extremely resource intensive; in order to gather the sheer amount of blocks needed for such a project, people will be spread out over the map exhausting resources and building shelters there which defeats the idea of a "centralized, organic" spawn.

What I'm trying to get across is there is no point trying to achieve a good spawn artificially; you can have it arise entirely out of necessity and then revamp it if you want but the sheer magnitude of a metropolis project will cause several isolated villages to spring up, and you can't really get work done if people are at opposite ends of the map looking for clay/stone/diamonds to finish the project. (Unless of course spawned blocks are provided to everyone, which I highly doubt)

Tbh I don't really oppose the project; I quite like the idea of a metropolis but I just wanted to point out some of the impracticalities.

I think that as long as we keep it simple and don't make it a "sprawling" metropolis (which negatively indicates a large sized metropolis), resources shouldn't be a problem. I mean, how hard is it to obtain stone bricks and wood planks/blocks?

Oooh a road system would be nice, and would make the world feel more tightly knitted (and kinda like Elder Scrolls which is probably why I like it). The only problem might be that there wouldn't be enough diversity/distance between towns without making these roads reallllyyy long.

I doubt they'll be TOO long, since we should be encouraging people to stay closer to spawn and not fucking off to some remote location.

The problem is that sometimes it is neccersery to go far out in order to find resources. And when people go they set up camps. That's why Lavitian or what ever it was called (rawpublic) was set up.

More interim map memories. I went through and did a bunch of maps for everyone to look at and admire. I might try doing these with Smogcraft 1.0 at some point, but that map takes quite a looooong time to render. (they are linked and not shown because they are large and I want people to have the option of looking at them in the largest resolution.)

Oblique angled I think during the day?: http://imgur.com/wzOj9

This supposedly measures the height of the map pretty cool!: http://imgur.com/CkrsL

This is a measurement of the light in the map or something or another: http://imgur.com/5hgzt

Kinda cool, I really will try and do these for Smogcraft 1.0 sometime soon, specially the last two!

are you using a standalone mapmaker, or is it a tool built in to the server/a plugin? was looking for one recently and couldn't find any functional, current ones
