R.A. Dickey tosses a 1 hitter against the Phillies...the one hit being by Cole fucking Hamels.

Mets will never get a no-hitter. i was hoping so hard for another Phillies hit so that pretty boy douchebag doesn't take away immortality from Dickey.

also, opinions about K-Rod. if i were running the Mets, he would not be allowed to wear a Mets uniform ever again. that behavior is absolutely despicable

that really sucks for dickey haha, only one walk too good shit.

as for k-rod... it is a tough call. it's no worse than brett myers, and while it obviously isn't the greatest situation, it has nothing to do with baseball so meh

That's pretty uh... self-righteous there bud. I mean, all we know is that he hit the guy and it's not like he beat him to near death.

Often, the third degree assault charge is given in crimes in which there is no obvious physical harm. Such situations may occur as the result of minor altercations or domestic disputes. For example, one spouse may accuse the other of hitting or pushing him. Even in the absence of cuts or bruises, he may say that the hit or push caused him pain. This report of pain may be enough to warrant a third degree assault charge/
A person may be charged with this crime if he hurts someone due to his own negligence or even by accident.
Let's not go around claiming someone should lose his lively hood over a situation we don't know anything about. Unless you were somehow there and actually witnessed the crime which I doubt you were.

Epic Ballgame between Detroit and Chicago. Detroit Comes back from 2-1 in the top of the 9th to win 3-2 off a home run from Alex Avila. Kudos to the Pitching Staff. Rick Porcello deserved the win tonight!

Except for the fact that rumour has it, his father in law told him to man up and stop crying and K Rod beat him for that. In that case, I too would bar him from wearing a Mets uniform again.

Daian Pena told investigators she was inside the lounge—near the clubhouse and ordinarily a convivial spot where players meet their relatives after games— when Rodriguez appeared and told her to bring her father outside.
She “observed the defendant pin her father against a wall and punch her father multiple times in the face and head,” the criminal complaint said.
Her account was confirmed by the father, who “suffered bruising, swelling, abrasions and redness to the head and pain to his neck,” the complaint said.
keep in mind this was also done in the family lounge for players. he did this in front of the wives and (possibly) kids of all the other ballplayers on the Mets. Jeff Franceour's wife was there to witness it, as was Carlos Beltran's wife. K-Rod embarrassed himself and furthermore, he brought more negative spotlight on a franchise already drowning in it.

at the very least, issuing an 18 word statement of "disappointment" is proof enough that Mets ownership just doesn't give a shit. About anything.

I been enjoying San Diego's pitcher pitch bro. They have such young talent and they actually managed to get players/pop before the deadline (Tejada,Ludwick).
I believe with that Pitching/Bullpen talent and keep bats like Gonzo/Tejada/Ludwick/Hairstorn-Bros going. They have a great shot at Winning the NL West and be a threatening team in the Post-season.

People keep saying the Giants will end up winning it because they are a far more experienced team/mature than San Diego. But who gives a shit about an ESPN analyzers opinion? San Diego is as humble as they can get, they deserve a shot at the post-season.

Well then, I am the one who was not in the know lol. To that extent, I do agree. Well maybe not with throwing him out on the street but only because we've seen players do worse and not get that kind of punishment. At the same time, the Mets could've used this to send a message. A 2 game suspension doesn't mean anything because he would've had to miss those games anyway.

Also I love what the Padres are doing. I'm very happy for the franchise because they've done a great job at collecting talent. And of course Gonzo is just awesome. Love the guy. San Fran doesn't have the pitching or the hitting to take over the NL West. As long as the Padres don't suffer some massive breakdown, they'll be fine.

Speaking of San Fran, HUGE series coming up this week between them and the Phils. And we have reinforcements on the way by the name of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. MLB leading 17 names on the DL this year and only 2 1/2 games out. Let the run continue.

Wow...

I had such good expectations for the Mets this season. They we're actually 11games over 500. Once this season. But then they just started to fall apart towards the all star break and now...

I really miss the old Mets squad with
Reyes-SS
Delgado-1B
Jose Valentin-2B
David Wright-3B
Carlos Beltran-CF
Cliff Floyd-RF
Angel Pagan/Shawn Green-LF
Poul La Duca-C

Now that was the real Mets squad, until Injury's just ripped through the team. I was always against the firring of Willy Randolph. Randolph did a great job taking them to 2 NL tittles including the NLCS against the Cardinals, which they lost....

The Mets need to consider signing Angel Pagan, such a great Puerto Rican ball player. He's everything good in that team. But i'm not sure whats gonna happen with the Mets in general...

ah the 2006 squad. you see, the only "problem" with the 2006 team was that omar caught lighting in a bottle with jose valentine and paul lo duca. lo duca hitting .318? valentine with 18 homers (ish) in the 8 hole? Beltran's career year? it was a great team and surely deserved to crush the cardinals though but you can't possibly have expected some of those things to happen before the season began...

as for the mets now, they are kinda fucked. years of poor ownership and front office management have lead to this. they have something like $120 million committed already for the 2011 season and with dwindling attendance, they won't be able to go after big free agents (lee, crawford). Fred Wilpon just gave Minaya a vote of confidence as GM for next year and claims that his son has been doing a good job as COO. as long as ownership continues to blind itself, the mets will go nowhere; they are like the knicks of baseball.

Such a great year of Baseball, I haven't been so intrigued with a season since the '98 roidrun race between Sosa and Mcgwire. MLB hitters must be cutting back on their respective dosages nowadays, because I have never seen such a dominant year for pitchers. Seriously how many no hit bids have there been, 8? (Jackson, Halladay, Braden, Morrow, Slowey, Garza, Jimenez, Galarraga) It was already a pitchers game when a batter hits 3/10 times and your considered a good hitter, but even so, with all the young pitching talent I'm seeing spread throughout the majors, I think we're merely at the start of a more pitching dominated era, comparable to the 80s when guys like Ryan, Clemens, and Valenzuela were all at their prime. Baseball is turnin' back the clock fellas!

Hm, neat, Barret Loux didn't sign. The money that was supposed to be used to sign him now goes to Ty Linton, a really toolsy kid that said he wouldn't sign because he wanted to go to UNC and play football. And as compensation, we will receive the seventh overall pick next year in a loaded class. So instead of Barret Loux, who was a massive overdraft, we'll have Ty Linton and possibly a guy like Trevor Bauer, who is BETTER than Loux. Nice! Jerry Dipoto, please don't fuck this up. We may be heading somewhere.

There have actually been more no-hit bids but yeah it is exciting. The only gripe I have is the length of the games. They are getting pretty crazy in length. Otherwise this has been a great year so far. You could feel the excitement from day 1 of the season. The wild card and pennant races are going to be insane next month.

Even teams that are at the bottom of the standings can be excited (Orioles, Nationals)

The only fanbases who should be disappointed are Mets, Dodgers, Mariners, Angels and Pirates to an extent (they have good young talent but they're all gonna leave in their primes anyway).

Lets hope for an exciting playoffs (last year's was relatively boring)

Which team do you think is the most underrated right now? For me, its prolly the A's. They have great starting pitching (Braden, Cahill), and Crisp, Pennington, and Suzuki are red-hot.

For a team that doesn't have a ridiculous record the Jays are a scary, exciting team. It's pretty cool seeing them heat up on any given day.

I live in Canada so all I get is Jays coverage.

For a rebuilding year they are doing amazing. They have some great, young starting pitching (Brandon Morrow is doing great, Brett Cecil is improving, Shawn Marcum is surpassing expectations, Ricky Romero is solid). Some of their rental players are over-achieving (John Buck being an allstar, Fred Lewis is doing alright, and obviously Jose Bautista is dominating).

With all of these players, they also have John Macdonald who is average and can fill a spot while a young player improves in the minors, Arencibia who is improving in the minors, although fighting a spot with John Buck and Jose Molina, Travis Snider is playing pretty consistently and Yunel Escobar has surpassed my personal expectations.

The thing is, the Jays need more speed and consistent hitting to consistently compete with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays (a better bullpen wouldn't hurt, although it isn't BAD). The Jays get all of their runs from the home run, which isn't bad, but it isn't amazing either when they are all solo homeruns. Their game today against the Sox was great and the way they should get runs, but unfortunately it won't always be like that.

So they are good, but overachieving right now. They do have some good young talent though, and they need to get rid of some of their rental players (their crowded outfield and a catcher) to improve their infield and bullpen pitching. I could see Alex Anthopolous trading John Buck, Jose Batista, Edward Encarnacion, and Lyle Overbay to fill some of those positions. We'll see though.

haha stallion speaking of the jays heating up... excellent game today.

ive had more fun watching the jays this season than ive ever had with baseball (probably because making the playoffs is impossible in the al east) and i hope the future is bright :)

Considering Jays were projected last and are going to likely end up >.500 in a division with 3/top 10 teams in baseball, they have had a wonderful season.

Hell, if they made a good enough push they could pass the Red Sox for a nice consolation prize among the two likely non-playoff teams.

Reds, White Sox, Padres, Giants, Rangers, A's, Jays; happiest teams to be where they are in some order?

You forgot probably their most talented pitcher which is Brett Anderson. Power left hander with great command and a filthy, filthy slider. Problem is he's been lingered by injuries.

Rangers combined no hitter blown in the 9th.....So many blown no hitters. Really ironic that jim joyce was the home plate umpire =P

For real man, I watched that whole game. To make it worse, it was blown with an 0-2 count on a pitch that was supposed to be out of the strikezone...my coach would kill me. I don't recall the relievers name that was pitching, but if I had a 97+ fastball with sink, I would be working down in the zone. Very good game though, the Rangers are definitely one of the most talented teams this year.
