Our current host (http://www.layeredtech.com/) thought it fitting to raise our rent over 30% with only a month's notice. Since this is really rude, we are packing up and heading for a different host. We have two laid out at the moment, both much better than the current server we are on. After this move, any lag should stop (hopefully!) :)

Keep in mind, there should be relatively no downtime (1-3 days at most).

they probably raised prices for recession. With tighter budgets, customers don't come as often. So in order for the company to thrive, they have to jack up the price on those few customers that do go.

I think the server we are getting is a Quad Core Xeon 3200 with 2gb of RAM, 2x500 GB drives in a RAID 0

No it doesn't. What it needs is CPU power and RAM... and you can't do much better than 4 cores and 2 GB. This is probably the most powerful machine I'll get to touch for a while ;)
