Metagame National Dex UU Metagame Discussion - Porygon-Z Banned

Brief thoughts on the drops we got

1588539345788.png
: I have mixed feelings for this mon. On one hand it is a pretty good hazard control with Court Change with Boots, has a base 120 fire type move with a chance to burn, pretty solid coverage, u-turn for pivoting, and a really good speed tier allowing you to outspeed Thundurus forms, Terrak, Cobalion and many more. But on the other hand it's fairly frail and has pretty distinct competition as an offensive fire type with Infernape, which has stab fighting type moves and grass knot to threaten pert and other bulky waters which are an issue for Cinder. As well as the ability to run Z moves effectively due to Nasty Plot sets. The only downside to running Infernape is that you are much slower and unless you are scarf you can get revenged by Latias and other fast psychic types. I can see Cinderace being pretty decent.

I wanna also say a choice band set is very possible but taking rock damage is a fucking L. But throwing out pyro balls off a band set hurts like a bitch. The only true switch into that set is bulky waters like Pert, Slowbro and Alo. To an extent physdef Prima but Gunk Shot is a thing.

1588539832051.png
: Literally nothing much to say on Celesteela. We had it before and it's gonna keep doing what it did. Which is making life a nightmare for psychic and fairy types. As well being a really good wall in general that doesn't die. No Zone is even better for this mon.

1588539915894.png
: Bruh moment. Aegislash is UU and it's pretty fucking good. Steel/Ghost and really good offensive and defensive stats. Sub Tox is ass don't use it. You'll run into Venusaur every game and not have a fun time, take it from me i tried and did not have fun. But Band, Specs and SD + Ghostium are clean. The immediate power you get from Band and Specs is dumb, you blow through so much shit by clicking buttons. SD + Ghostium is the same thing except you click SD and take a soul. I will also add that Steel/Ghost by itself with the base 140 defenses makes this a pretty decent switch in to Latias and other Psychic types that don't click mystical fire or shadow ball.

1588540138431.png
: Nobody likes stall fuck you.

This was not brief i lied and i will not shorten it cause i am lazy. Thanks for tuning into my ted talk and roast me for my opinion on discord <3

Since the tier shift happened a couple of days ago, the council decided to hold a vote on some of the Pokémon in the tier:

As a conclusion from these votings, Aegislash, Thundurus & Victini have been quickbanned from National Dex UU.
:ss/Aegislash::ss/Thundurus::ss/Victini:

:aegislash:
Despite being in the tier for only 4 days, Aegislash was already experienced as too overbearing. While the SubToxic was mediocre because of the fact that Earth Power SpDef Mega Venusaur was almost spammed on every team, AV Amoonguss rose in usage and Celesteela also just dropped, it were the offensive sets that really made Aegislash stand out. SD Ghostium-Z was a nuke in the metagame, blowing away huge physical walls at +2 like Skarmory, Hippowdon, Mega Venusaur and Alomomola after no or minimal chip. +2 Adamant Shadow Sneak had the potential to easily sweep late game, easily picking off revenge killers like Earthquake Mega Aerodactyl and Thundurus. Colbur Berry sets were also used, which had the potential to remove a Hydreigon or a Weavile after living the dark-type STAB move and KO'ing back with a Close Combat. Even Choice sets were used occasionally, packing immense power and lack of immediate switch ins, but were overall inferior because of the fact that Pursuit-trapping it was way easier. But all in all, the SD Z-Move set, coupled with Aegislash's good bulk made it too overwhelming for the tier at this point in time.

I threatened the entire council with demoting if they voted Do Not Ban. Checkmate.

:thundurus:
Thundurus was a Pokémon that was kind of overlooked at the start of the metagame, but after the metagame settled a bit Thundurus suddenly jumped to the front lines. Its Nasty Plot set, coupled with its great speed, allowed it to be basically uncounterable in the metagame. Its speed tier of base 111 allowed it to outspeed many key threats in the metagame such as Victini, Keldeo, Terrakion, Latias and Gengar. Revenge killing became even harder when the Prankster Thunder Wave set started to emerge, slowing down foes like Alakazam, Scolipede and sometimes even threats like Weavile and Mega Aerodactyl. +2 Thundurus was also basically impossible to switch into, with Gligar being pretty mediocre so Thundurus can opt for HP Flying to nail stuff like Mega Venusaur, Amoonguss and SpDef Kommo-o. Thundurus was deemed too powerful for the metagame to handle and has been banned.

:victini:
Victini was mainly banned because, just like the other two bans, the extreme lack of definite defensive counterplay. CB V-create was an absolute nuke, nearly 2HKO'ing bulky resists and even 3HKO'ing certain Pokémon like Physically Defensive Incineroar which sole purpose was to take on Victini. Even the counterplay that there was against Choice Band, like Mega Altaria, Swampert and Rhyperior, got complete annihilated by the Z-Celebrate set. All in all, it was very clear Victini was too much for the tier to handle and thus got banned.

Post your thoughts on the new metagame in this thread and be sure to join the roomtours (you'll get notified in the discord) to experience the new metagame. Be sure to look out for more announcements regarding tiering soon!

:ss/Azumarill:

The National Dex UU Council has decided to suspect test Azumarill. Azumarill was already banned on earlier in the generation, but was later unbanned via a council retest. It was unbanned because most of the council believed that Azumarill had enough checks in the tier that could keep it at bay, such as Amoonguss, Mega Venusaur and Slowbro. Yet again however, Azumarill as proven to be one of the most dangerous Pokémon in the tier, both on paper and in practice. Its solid bulk + good typing, along with its Huge Power ability, makes it one of the most feared sweepers in the metagame due to Belly Drum. Azumarill is able to sweep many teams with a +6 Aqua Jet, or break through any sturdy wall. Choice Band variants also have an extreme lack of counterplay within the tier, mainly being the aforementioned Amoonguss, Mega Venusaur and Mega Slowbro. Offensive counterplay such as faster Grass-types lose to the, albeit less common, PerishTrap set, which utilizes Azumarill's Sap Sipper ability to wall, trap and eliminate the foe. Azumarill's good typing and bulk also allows it to also come in on Pokémon in the tier, such as Hydreigon, Mega Gyarados, Weavile and Keldeo, and put the opponent at an immediate disadvantage. Time and time again, Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur are the only two reliable answers to Azumarill, basically being forced on literally every team in the metagame right now. The council has recognized that this is is an unhealthy Pokémon in the metagame right now, and thus has been deemed suspect test worthy.

Suspect Information:

  • Since National Dex UU has no playable ladder on PS! yet, we will be hosting 3 roomtours a day at 12PM, 3PM & 8PM EST. You will get notified in the discord server when they start.
  • Any person who wins this tour immediately qualified for reqs. You can either DM me or one of the council members to let us know you won a roomtour. If the person who wins a roomtour already has gotten reqs, second place will get reqs.
  • Azumarill will be allowed in these roomtours, and will last for approximately 2 weeks, meaning that it will end on May 20th (there is no time since we host the tours ourselves).
  • A ban vote of 60% majority will be required to ban Azumarill.
  • Remember to keep discussion civil and stay on topic!

Go wild, but don't actually.

Kyurem @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Draco Meteor

Kyurem is such an underrated threat. Didn't take me long to realize this mon had potential now it has freeze dry. It only really took Mareanie clicking ice beam over and over again and fucking my team. Specs Ice Beam coming off a 130 base special attack literally dents anything that isn't a resist. Most are 2hko'd by Kyurem or get closed to OHKO'd by specs Ice Beam. Draco Meteor gives you incredibly strong neutral coverage with Freeze Dry and Ice Beam. Allowing you to kill stuff that Ice Beam wouldn't normally kill after some sufficient chip. Dealing "74.4 - 88.1% " to M-Venusaur respectably and having a chance of OHKOing stuff like Reuniclus if it doesn't have spdef evs or a CM boost. Earth Power hits lame ass steel types like Spdef Rachi and the nonexistence Mega Aggron. Quite literally all it hits. Main faults with Kyurem really stem from the stealth rock weakness and the ease of being revenge killed by the tiers many revenge killers.

Sub Roost is also pretty hot if ur into pressure stalling since boots are fucking stupid and let you ignore entry hazards. Bulk is impressive coming off 125 base hp and decent defenses at 90 each. Freeze Dry and Earth Power is perfect coverage unless the opponent for some reason is packing Bronzong which unironically beats Kyurem with wish support.

Unironically i want to make a post on a mon i feel fits on bulkier team builds and balance fairly well. Which is Slowking. Slowking may sound like a wack ass choice for a team but for the current meta i don't think it's all too bad. Being able to deal with +3 Z Manaphy and Manaphy as a whole is a good asset for any bulkier team. Having Dragon Tail to phase Manaphy out and not be set up bait is really good and in combination with Future Sight you can surprisingly do some decent damage to an offensive team. Manaphy could run Energy Ball but i don't think Energy Ball should be run when it leaves you beat 1v1 by Venusaur Mega if you drop Psychic and if you drop ice beam you lose to Latias and Hydrei since you only kill Hydrei if you are +3 and click Z.

Not only does this mon deal with Manaphy though, it deals with Keldeo as well, switches into Specs Primarina, Gardevoir-Mega and plenty of other really strong special hitters extremely well when packing AV.

Slowking @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpA / 80 SpD
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail

+3 252 SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 169-200 (42.8 - 50.7%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Pixilate Gardevoir-Mega Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 121-144 (30.7 - 36.5%) -- 62.7% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 144-169 (36.5 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 133-159 (33.7 - 40.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252 SpA Infernape All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 151-178 (38.3 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

In short, Azumarill got banned because of its lack of counterplay and restrictive teambuilding. You were pretty much forced to run Mega Venusaur (or Tsareena) on every team to not get swept by Belly Drum Azumarill, since even Pokemon like Amoonguss and Mega Slowbro couldn't stand up to a +6 Knock Off.
smh mareanie you're the only one out here running tsareena every other person runs mvenu

I legit started over like 3 times cause my goof ass kept clicking on different tabs. Some of the sets on here are definitely niche as fuck but they serve a purpose somewhere. Unless ur in the C rank which is like hella niche but some of them are hot ass picks for a team. Like banded Sirfetch'd. If you use Sirfetch'd i'll become your e-girlfriend

Very sorry for the super long wait, but we finally have a VR update! And a big one that is!

:celesteela:
Celesteela was placed in A rank because of its ability to check a lot of threatening Pokemon in the tier. Mega Gardevoir, Mega Dianice, Alakazam and Jirachi can be checked by a Specially Defensive variant, while Pokemon like Terrakion, Salamence and Scolipede can be kept in check by a Physically Defensive variant that's been running around. Celesteela finds itself sitting in a comfortable place in the tier, and has been put in A rank.

:sableye-mega:
Mega Sableye was also put in A rank because it's a wonderful Pokemon on not only stall builds, but also quite a few balance teams out there. The ability to invalidate nearly every hazard setter in the tier (Hippowdon, Skarmory, Swampert, Empoleon) is an amazing asset for any team, while also being able to check huge threats like Conkeldurr and Alakazam, as teams can easily lack switch ins for those two.

:cinderace:
While the HDB Court Change set hasn't really been used yet, the CB set has already been a nice breaker for the tier. Cinderace's higher base speed than Infernape, albeit weaker, is huge for outspeeding Pokemon like Latias and Gengar, being able to sometimes break more sufficiently. It does struggle with some things, like being pretty one-dimensional, and failing to break through certain walls like Hippowdon, Alomomola and Swampert. Despite these drawbacks, Cinderace is sitting comfortably in B+.

:chandelure:
Since Blacephalon left last shift, Chandelure is no longer outclassed and can go back to what it did before. SubCM is an amazing stallbreaker, which is a playstyle that's becoming increasingly more common. Choice Specs variants are also as hard to switch into as ever, with even Hydreigon taking. a ton from Specs Overheat.

:slowking:
With the tier looking for the ever so present Manaphy, Slowking has arisen as one of the better Manaphy checks in the tier. Its access to Dragon Tail allows it to phase out Manaphy after a Tail Glow boost, while resisting every hit that Manaphy wants to throw at it (unless Manaphy is running Energy Ball, which it never should). Besides this, Slowking also checks various other Pokemon like Mega Gardevoir, Keldeo and Primarina.

:manaphy: A --> A+
Manaphy never really caught on early generation, but ever since Thundurus' ban earlier this month, it's been popping off. +3 Manaphy is super hard to switch into, and Manaphy's coverage of Water/Ice/Psychic hits nearly everything in the tier outside of Empoleon. Its prominence on recent HO's and the destructive power it has on the tier allowed it to rise to A+.

:gengar: A- --> A
Gengar rose because its Nasty Plot set is a phenomenal breaker in the tier. +2 Gengar, combined with Ghostium Z, is a menace to deal with if you're playing any sort of bulkier team. Its also been prominent on certain HO's, acting as a spinblocker.

:scizor: A- --> A+
Rotom-Heat and Victini left, Scizor enjoys it. Even though Celesteela came back, it still has to worry about Knock Off. Scizor is back doing its daily business of SDBP, which is still threatening most teams out there.

:xurkitree: A- --> A
Just like with Manaphy and Gengar, Xurkitree rose because people finally found out how good the setup sets actually are. +3 Electrium is a huge nuke for any team, and even Shuca Berry can be ran to take an EQ from the likes of Mega Aero or Terrak, and KO them in return.

:reuniclus: B+ --> A-
Reuniclus rose to the A ranks because of the prominence of the Future Sight set. Because of Mega Venusaur's prominence in the tier, Reuniclus often finds a good opportunity to come on the battlefield in a match, using Future Sight, and dealing quite some damage if you're not a Dark-type, which don't always like to switch into Reuniclus because of the fear of Focus Blast.

:amoonguss: A+ --> A
Amoonguss dropped because it's no longer as needed anymore as teams since Azumarill got banned. It's still solid, just less necessary overall.

:altaria-mega: A- --> B+
Altaria-Mega sucks in a metagame where Celesteela, Skarmory, Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss are all very good Pokemon, and you can't even beat most Dragons in the tier. Huge L for this mon.

Thank you everyone for waiting!

It has been a long time since I have made a serious post here, so I might as well start to root for the penguin.
:empoleon:
First regarded as an unmon, but with Manaphy in the tier it is one of the few reliable checks next to Slowking.
It provides incredibly utility being able to fit as a fogger and a rocker. It also blanket checks the like of Scizor(which is still a force to be reckkoned with) and starmie and slowking, and fills the role of a bulky water and bulky steel in one.
I would like this to be moved up to A-, as i believe these traits make it good enough to fit in the A-Ranks.
:venusaur-mega:
how tf is this not S
:crawdaunt:
I have to say I hard disagree with this one. It absolutely dismantles fat builds and by virtue of its typing it is able to check a lot of threats when healthy such as Scizor (most haven't been running max spe), Starmie (a lot forgo thunderbolt for recover or rapid spin) and other threats like Cinderass and Slowking.
keep it in B+ :blobthumbsup:
I will edit this later with more noms (looking at you moltres)
