NCAA March Madness Thread

uh I think you can still join the group, even after the deadline to have your picks in. I mean, I just joined 5 minutes ago (after 2 games were already done) so...

My real bracket is pretty much done unless Stanford goes to the final four, but I put [gonna lose] in the name so it's alright i guess.

fuck xavier the gayest fucking (BAN ME PLEASE) team ever go fuck them two fucking years in a row and that makes 3 fucking games in a row they shouldve lost from now on for eternity i will go for whoevers against them even if its fucking duke

hell why do we even hate duke, oh right because theyre duke

lets see some 12 seeds win imo

All I care about is Texas winning tonight :) No game was particularly exciting yesterday...Xavier-West Virginia was not exciting since it was just Xavier fucking up, Louisville-Tennessee and UNC blows out everyone (so far), and Western Kentucky got close only for UCLA to immediately step up their game to put it out of reach (I think it never got closer than 10 again). So hopefully the only blowout tonight is UT over Stanford ;)

I made a pretty big jump tonight, I had actually forgotten I picked Davidson to upset Wisconsin!

I got Louisville over Tenn right, but I also have them beating UNC, so that could backfire.

If everything goes like it is now, I'll have got the entire elite 8 right except for Xavier>Duke.

My possible points is a lot lower than just about everyone else though. [My duke bias pick owned me]

edit: actually a lot of other people are only one off too

HOOK 'EM! How do you like my HORNS, Bulblax? ;) Texas 82 Stanford 62 is just unbelievable...hopefully we follow this up in the elite eight, because my optimism just jumped through the roof.

Also lol michigan state

at least they were in the bracket and made it past the first weekend

how's the university of michigan doing in the nit? oh wait they were so bad they're not even in the loser's tournament..

anyway, perfect first half played by memphis. whenever they took a shot all you heard was swoosh. on the other end, whenever msu shot you heard clank and saw the basketball bounce off the iron. they played with something to prove, their defense and size killed and they dominated mich state's bread and butter statistic.. rebounding. disappointing performance for my team but the blame goes mostly to memphis.. they just dominated.

Today had pretty bad games, so I did not even watch more than the end of the UCLA game, but I guess that this is a good start for people who like to see a lot of 1 seeds make the final four.

Who the hell is SirRaven, and why the fuck is he telling me I am on some ignore list, yet simultaneously taunting me?

All four number one seeds is kind of cool in the sense of the supposed best teams making it to the last, but also kind of annoying in the sense of rewarding all the people who merely pick the higher seeds winning.

Worst final four ever!!!! I'm sorry, but the fun of the tournament is NOT having top seeds making the final four and screwing up most people's brackets, while the minority who picked the right final four laughs and acts like a genius! And with the two wins today, that fun just got sapped out of the tournament.

Now, with ALL the top seeds there, Amy the Secretary, who's never watched a basketball game in her life, wins her office pool and $400 over the die-hard fans of the game who picked Texas, Louisville, Xavier, etc. to go to the final four. Needless to say, originality and knowledge were not required this year to make a successful bracket. Hell, if you are on a Yahoo league, and for some reason, you selected the option to instantly pick all the top seeds to win in every match-up, your bracket looks pretty solid!

*cough* mop *cough*

I didn't literally mean about Amy the secretary. I was just using an example to show how lucky a LOT of people with little or no basketball knowledge are kicking the asses of a lot of people's brackets all because of one auto-click. I hope these ratings stink this year!

On a side note, I read an article on Yahoo a few days ago that UCLA has now officially became as hated as a basketball team as Duke. They had a few games decided by lucky calls, and they unfortunately happened in a row, but that shouldn't make them permanently as hated as Duke, should it?

yeah some noob picked every single higher seed in the smogon bracket

twisted fate or something

also last year picking all the higher seeds faired you quite well too.

also ucla shouldve lost to a&m memphis just shouldnt have made it this far kansas never played a seed higher than an 8 and unc was in the hardest bracket.

go unc they're the only team i remotely like that's left

Just because the fun for you is in making a bracket or in seeing underdogs win does not necessitate that being the case for everyone else, or even a majority. I personally like seeing the best teams and the ones that adhere to fundamentals win. A lot of the time, the former might apply to the top ten with talent, and the latter to teams with less talent but more 'chemistry', but the top four teams being in is a fine result for anyone who likes seeing strong teams face off! Of course, these games could be as pitiful as the elite eight games, which would be pretty sad.

I am not sure why UCLA should escape being as hated as Duke. The only reason Duke is the most hated is their recent success, and UCLA now has that recent success (albeit not in the form of any actual titles), and they have far more past success to hate as well. I have never understood hating teams that are powerhouses beyond wanting to see new faces make it. The only reason I rooted against Duke this time was that they absolutely deserved to lose to Belmont and then did not :( I want UCLA to win it all because of their recent success ;D They deserve it the most of any of these teams. (Team that most needs to lose: come on!! Do not let UNC win it all guys!) Were they not the team that ousted my Longhorns, I would be rooting for Memphis to win it all >:O

I'm in the 97th percentile maybe I should join a group with that bracket HEH

though to be honest, during the season I thought that the top 5-8 teams were clearly a lot better than everyone else, more than in recent years (except 2005 where Illinois and UNC were clearly the best). After UNC, UCLA, Kansas, Memphis, Texas, Tennessee (and maybe Lousiville, Duke, and Georgetown, but even they are a step down), there is a pretty big drop off in the talent level. Or at least that's what I see. I dunno why I went against my intuition when I made my bracket (upset city that's why I'm in last place), but I can see that it was pretty dumb now.

I mean, it's not like these teams are unbeatable or anything, since everyone lost at least one game to someone that isn't in my list (except Memphis), but they are still obviously better than the other teams. As in, I realized I had nine teams listed, and tried to think of a tenth for a nice even number, but I couldn't think of another team that was really playing on their level.

oh well, at least 9 is a perfect square

lets go kansas-memphis championship

if this works out i will win the smogon brackets and i will get 3rd in the league where im playing for money

Might wanna get your facts straight...just because I picked the higher seeds doesnt mean I know nothing about basketball. I said it early in the thread, that I saw no major upsets this tournament, and I stuck by it. Oh well, I was wrong, amazing...
