NFL Weekly Predictions Challenge

9-6 so far. cant believe some of the losses though. sd losing and no losing. i kind of expected philly to win, but it was my "upset" pick. kinda shocked SF lost though considering how well i thought thye handled themselves against the saints. "football". lets get it gb!!

You cannot believe that a team that barely won each of its games lost to another good team? You also cannot believe a team that is 0-2 lost to a team that is 2-0? Why are you using "quotations" to try to imply anything crazy happened? A good team beat another good team, a good team beat a TERRIBLE team, and as to the Chargers game two teams with the same record faced off and one lost! Try to understand sports a little less!

This is in comparison to my Niners, who almost seem to aim to displease; they lost to the CHIEFS of all teams, and to add insult to injury, we're ranked below the Rams...the RAMS for crying out loud. That alone is just sad sad sad in what is otherwise a horrible division they should be on top of...if Smith doesn't get benched by the break, the season is pretty much lost. It should be evident even to Singletary that Smith is a bust and far too inconsistent to be his starter, even David Carr couldn't do any worse than the shit Smith is putting out on the table...in addition, he needs to kick some ass on Defense as well and get them back into shape, there is no excuse for allowing 30+ points against an offense as weak as the Chiefs. In all honesty, if they had went after McNabb, the Niners couldn't be any worse that 2-1 (Saints being the only likely loss), as the Seahawks defense isn't exactly a golden standard, and once again the Chiefs should have been a given win.

That aside, imo Singletary himself is a good coach I think; he just happens to be stuck with some shitty players and if he has a flaw, it's trusting players like Smith to be productive. If he wants to keep his job in the eyes of management, he better yank those bad eggs out and start winning. 13 games, and at this point only 10 wins could guarantee a playoff spot with the NFC West won, anything less and there's the slim chance the Seahawks (or God forbid, the Cardinals somehow) wind up winning the NFC West at 9-7.

I'm jealous that your team COULD win. Look at my division. NE - 2-1. NYJ - 2-1. Miami - 2-1. We are screwed.

As for the bolded part, I don't think KC is a given win anymore. You might want to note that they're one of only two teams in the league to be 3-0 (them and a Roethlisburgerless Steelers team). They beat SD, for heaven's sake. Todd Haley is clearly doing something right for that team.

The Chiefs were never a given win, I have picked them to win every week. Week 1 they had a favorable matchup, then week 2 they had a favorable matchup, then they appeared to have a legitimate defense for sure. Now "you never know", like with the Bucaneers going up against the Steelers with the exact same things to be said about the Bucaneers, but the Chiefs were going up against an 0-2 team. It was not a give that the 49ers would win, it was just a really dumb perception. Why do people buy into the mass media image of any given week? The Chiefs were the gambling underdog to an 0-2 team!!! It never made sense.

To being ranked lower than the Rams, the Rams have actually shown a surprising amount of life this season...granted it is mostly just all offense, but still they might actually be on the road to recovery and throwing Bradford into the fire an actually good idea?

Well with the Chiefs, I really don't buy their 3-0 record. Consider, they've played a sloppy Chargers team (if they went out and beat them when they're usually fired up, like week 8 or later, then it would have been more impressive imo), beat the Browns (still a joke), and cleaned up a both sloppy and now bad Niners team ( :( ). Steelers are a bit surprising to be sitting at 3-0 as well, but they have a tremendous defense to compensate. Not to mention the Chiefs have been winning IN SPITE of Cassell during the first 2 games...now if the Chiefs somehow come out of their bye week and beat the Colts and Texans, then I'll agree they're legit. Otherwise I dunno...hell, they could even conceivably squeeze into the playoffs since their schedule is pretty damn weak; after the Colts and Texans, their last tough opponents are a rematch with the Chargers and a game against the Titans. Every other opponent they could (scarily) beat, as Raiders are still a joke, Cardinals are going nowhere, etc etc.

Also, to be ranked under the Rams is sad in so many ways; the franchise has had what, only a few good years, and that was with Warner back in the 90s. There's no excuse the Niners should be under that, ever.

And for what it's worth, I like Todd Haley, I thought he was a good offensive coordinator while with the Cardinals (imo, one of the reasons they made it to the super bowl along with Warner), and he has brought a good mindset to the Chiefs that's beginning to show.

I think the Chiefs have a young and hungry defense, and a (potentially) deadly running game, but I don't buy them as being legit yet. As it's been said before, they've played some questionable teams so far, so 3-0 isn't THAT surprising. If they can beat a good team I'll buy into them, but for now I'll be skeptical.

As for the Steelers, I was very surprised that Batch could actually still throw the deep ball. He was never known for his arm strength even in his "prime", so it was a pleasant wake up. As for it being a "surprise" that Pittsburgh is 3-0, I don't think it should be. Two of their three opponents weren't all that great (Tennessee is a one dimensional team, and that one dimension plays right into the Steelers' biggest strength), and the third opponent, even being a legit team, was probably still getting into the swing of the season since it was opening weekend. Being a homer I'll always have faith in the Steelers, but I also don't think they've had a really stiff test thus far. We'll see how they fare against Baltimore next week (SIDENOTE - what the FUCK happened to Baltimore's fearsome run D?).

I'm surprised that only two teams made it to 3-0. Lots of little surprises and inconsistencies this season so far. Guess we won't be having any "could they go 16-0?" discussions this year!

What? Tennessee and Atlanta are both 2-1 EXCEPT FOR GAMES INVOLVING THE STEELERS WRECKING THEM, including an amount of offense (TEN like 38+29 points, ATL 41+27?) showing that the Steelers have potential for a truly elite defense this year, and I mean "2002 Bucaneers" "2000 Ravens" level. I am not saying Atlanta and Tennessee are "truly as great as they seem", but the Steelers O and D both are. This good without Big Ben! As to the other part, yes, it is not a surprise, Shinryu is your typical amateur armchair analyst who wants to overreact to everything and have things be astounding

I fucking quit watching the NFL. Last time I listen to ESPN Insider :|

Also I'm still not convinced Chicago and Kansas City are legit. Although I do like Chicago's chances more for obvious reasons.

8-8

Chiefs
Patriots
Saints
Steelers
Titans

Vikings
Ravens
Bengals
Texans
Redskins
Eagles
Chargers
Raiders
Colts
Dolphins
Bears

I feel like these picks are ridiculous, but when half of the games are tied in records AND the teams with better records might even be way worse (Saints v Falcons, Bengals v Panthers), then everything is going to be weird. I went with the better records but I am not confident in them at all in those two games. Most confident in Redskins, Texans, and Chiefs, however little good that does for picking at half assedly random like we all are.

10-6, total of 29-19

The Packers did a good job harassing Cutler, but like I said, it was not really something that I saw as a big deal, more like something that turned the game into a tossup situation!

San Francisco vs Kansas City - (Wrong, Kansas have to lose somtime though right? Cassell wasn't bad)
Buffalo vs New England - (Right)
Atlanta vs New Orleans - (Wrong, fuck Hartley although everyone picked NO so it didn't impact me)
Pittsburgh vs Tampa Bay - (Right, I'm scared next week)
Tennessee vs New York Giants - (Right)

hey your Chiefs analysis is way off (not picking on this because of any Chiefs obsession, this is different) - there is nothing especially predictive about winning and losing streaks, especially between 3 and -3. Depending on the conditions, a winning streak might not begin to indicate a loss "having to come" for a long time - in the NFL when it comes to a team with a higher win percentage than the other, that is not actually until 13 games!

EDIT: okay yeah for WP > o:WP, 13 straight wins or 3 straight losses begins to be predictive, for any favorite 11 straight wins or four straight losses begins to be predictive! Nothing in between, really! although after 4 straight wins the likely continued winning jumps up a little and then after 8 jumps a LOT in both of these situations

Man I got rocked, 7-9 haha. That puts me at 28-20 overall.

I'll try to get all the results for people updated today.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I'll be adding this to the intro as well, but putting it here so it'll be seen. In order to keep the crowdedness down to a minimum (and my sanity intact) I am going to require that, in order to remain in the contest and have your predictions count, you must submit predictions EVERY WEEK. That means that if you didn't post any this week, tough. If you still want to post yours for fun that's fine, but I will not count you, nor will I add you to the list. Also, if anyone currently playing misses a week I will remove them from the list.

You don't know how much it pains me to pick the Falcons over the Niners...

Edit: All matchups finalized, last 2 picks are Steelers > Ravens (Flaco has been struggling, so expecting the Steelers D again to dominate) and Eagles > Redskins (this could arguably go either way, but I'm betting Vick will torch the Redskins' D more than McNabb will torch the Eagles' D). Last minute spoiler pick/change is Miami > New England, I mean come on, if Sanchez can put on a very convincing win over the Patriots' D, they have some issues. Granted, Miami doesn't have quite the same level as receivers, but I'm betting their Defense will be better than the Patriots.
