Nopie's Nook

So I don't post so much here any more, though I never really posted that much to start with. But maybe that might change a little with this thread. Idk.

Um anyway, so I do a little drawing now and again (it's pretty much all Pokemon stuff) so thought it may be nice to make a thread here about it. I'm not too great though imo, I only just recently picked up my pen again after a long time away from doing any drawing outside of doodles, due to a lot of reasons. And I don't know too much about digital art yet since I pretty much just started using a tablet + photoshop. It's more the fact that I don't really know how to use photoshop that well since I think I've got the hang of the tablet now. But I do really love drawing and I'm making a strong effort to make it a bigger part of my life again.

In that vein, I've taken on a challenge of sorts. I'm hoping that in doing it I'll take more of my time to practice drawing and also improve my art as I go along.

Basically, I'll be drawing every single Pokemon as a year-long challenge. Each day I'll draw one evolution family until finally, by the end of 2012, I'll have all 649 Pokemon drawn. I've figured out that this would take about ten months to do, thanks to doing more than one Pokemon on most days.

It's been pretty fun so far, and I hope you have as much fun following me on this journey as I will doing it!

Here are the first seven days, already completed by the time of this post:

I also have a DeviantArt account that you could check out if you'd like, there's a few other little doodles there.

And please feel free to give me any comments or criticisms if you have any, I'd very much like to hear them as they'll only help me improve (I hope!)

And uh yeah, thanks for reading =]

Awesome. I can't wait to see this! I love threads that are normally updated, so you'll definitely get some compliments from me!

Here we are with today's update. Well technically this is yesterday's update since I didn't get one done two days ago on Saturday, but whatever. I'm working on bringing myself up to date again.

2012_pokedex_project__008___spearow_family_by_bagleopard-d4lugdk.png

Confound these bird Pokemon, their wings drive me insane! But I feel like I'm getting better at drawing birds little by little which means good things for any birdies further into the Pokedex.

Clouds are still pretty sloppy. I wish I knew a better way to make them xD

As usual, leave me any comments or criticisms you might have =]

Thanks for viewing!

I only just recently picked up my pen again after a long time away from doing any drawing outside of doodles, due to a lot of reasons. If I can voice my honest opinion, I'd say that drawing every single pokémon when you're trying to get the hang of things is too big of a challenge. You'll get practise, that's for sure, but I'm afraid that your main focus will be to get things done rather than improving and trying out new features and techniques. Or rather, it's better that you draw fewer pokémon where you take your time to try out new things, rather than drawing every pokémon in the same style (in a hurry) and in the end not learn as much.

So instead I'd like to suggest that you settle for the original 150 first, and use the extra time to look up tutorials and check out how artists draw and work. But the decision is up to you.

With that said, I like the Bulbasaur and Weedle family. It's nice to see how you draw them with different poses, instead of just being satisfied with just letting them stand on the ground with a blank stare. You've made a step in the right direction.

Thanks for the compliments everybody. And thank you, most of all, to Bummer. That's exactly the kind of thing I want to hear - some good, solid criticism.

I think I'm quite set in my ambition to draw all the Pokemon this year, but I'm sure I can make time to improve my skills and try new things as well. The thing is, I'm not quite sure where to look for good tutorials. Do you know of any good sites or individual tutorials?

I'm glad you all like what I've accomplished so far. I think my favorite out of the one I've completed up to now is the Squirtle family, but it's nice to see variety in what draws favor.

With that said, here's the newest addition to the challenge:
2012_pokedex_project__009___ekans_family_by_bagleopard-d4ly9wy.png

This one was pretty interesting to work with, since it took a few tries to draw the snakes' bodies well enough to make them look smooth like they should.

I don't think I've ever used an Ekans or Arbok in-game, so drawing this made me curious. Maybe I might be able to catch one on my playthrough of Soul Silver..

The thing is, I'm not quite sure where to look for good tutorials. Do you know of any good sites or individual tutorials?

The lovely folks here at SS have a helpful thread up with tons of stuff posted by the artists around this site, both their own tutorials and ones from others, including some references and general tips. It'd be a good place to get started!

What day is it today? That's right! It's Chu-sday!

Kill me.

2012_pokedex_project__010___pichu_family_by_bagleopard-d4lz1jh.png

Anyway, I almost started work on this one thinking it'd be another two-stage family, but then I remembered Pichu xD

Getting this one finished brings me back on track, so I'm not behind any more =] Ten days, ten drawings, and many more to come!

--------

Nastyjungle - Thank you! I'll make sure I give that a look!

kingcharizard - Are you sure? Truthfully it is my least favorite out of all that I have completed so far... but if you like it, please go right ahead and use it! I'm glad!

So this one is kinda late. Yesterday, as I was halfway through this, I felt tired so I decided to take a nap. I must have needed it, because I slept peacefully for FOURTEEN HOURS WTF

Drawing this one brought me back to my N64 days, to the Sandshrew minigame on Pokemon Stadium xD

I might have today's one up by the end of today, but maybe not.
