Slint - Breadcrumb Trail

At first listen it doesn't sound like it, but this song is about a guy who goes to a carnival and invites a fortune teller to go on a roller coaster, with lyrics such as "Creeping up into the sky, stopping at the top and starting down ... I said goodbye to the ground" it's actually pretty cool how a song like this is about something so simple. The music is also great, with awesome singing.

Stanton Moore - Big 'Uns Get The Ball Rolling

Cool tune, it has a great intro. One of the best songs on this album imo, but probably not my favorite. Also has an awesome name.

Agalloch - Odal

this is my first time actually listening to this album. i honestly love the acoustic guitars. its so relaxing, but dark at the same time. everything put into this song is almost done perfectly.

Interpol - Evil

What can I say, this song is excellent, the chorus is just to die for, awesome vocals, and the drums escort this song pretty well too. The bass at the beginning of the song is also great.

Vaya Con Dios - At the Parallel

After Puerto Rico, this is my favourite Vaya Con Dios track. Not much to say about it. It's a nice change from their other sound. This track focuses more on the piano and accordion.
 
Converge - Jane Doe

Oh man. The title song closes this album and it's an amazing way to close it. It's an 11 minute epic. The first minutes of this song are usual top-notch Converge fare, a little slower than usual... even with "clean" vocals. However, Jacob Bannon also delivers some of his fiercest screams. Seven minutes in, the whole thing changes, the guitars go to the background, the drums start slowly pounding away, and we're left with one of the most emotionally powerful pieces of music ever made. It's just so moving. Lost in you like saturday nights / Searching the streets with bedroom eyes / Just dying to be saved. 10/10
 
Red Sparowes - Finally As That Blazing Sun Shone Down Upon Us Did We Know That True Enemy Was The Voice Of Blind Idolatry; And Only Then Did We Begin To Think For Ourselves

This song is a lot like the other songs on the album that this is on; instrumental and great. I think that vocals wouldn't have made this better since the music that's there is just wonderful.

Judge, if you sort of want vocals for similar music try out Isis, they're a bit heavier but Red Sparowes is made up of members from similar groups, including Isis. If you need to know what album to pick from them, any one will do.

Eluvium - Taken

Beautiful ambient, with one prevailing string throughout the whole song that literally does calm you down... it's 17 minutes and I love every second of it, one of my favorite tracks on Talk Amongst the Trees.

Vocal lines kick ass, pretty slow, but the riffs work so well, and the chorus gives me the chills.

Nah, I'd definitely say start with Panopticon. I started with Celestial and I thought it was so bad that I almost didn't give Isis a chance.

Pedro the Lion - Paramedics and Priests

I haven't listened to these guys in forever, but I decided to pop them in at work yesterday and now I've been going through all their CDs one by one. Nothing will top Winners Never Quit, and I plan on reviewing that in the entertainment forum soon, but this is a solid album and this is a good song.

Led Zeppelin - Going to California

A beautiful song, albeit not as pretty as Rain Song, and I still prefer the live version, but a great song overall and I enjoy it quite a lot!

Beck - Lonesome Tears

This song is just like the others on Sea Change...beautiful layers of string instrumentation with guitar chords at the core. Melancholy lyrics like "how can this love, ever turning, never turn its eye on me?" Climatic string buildup at the end.

This album has better songs imo which is saying something

Kreator - Voices Of The Dead

Kreators best song, bar maybe Impossible Brutality. Really nice bass solo to start it off, with awesome Gothenburgish riffs along with your standard thrash riffing. Simply amazing.

Nightwish - Amaranth

I got some of the few new Nightwish songs. First time listening through them. I love the new singer's voice. This version is interrupted a little, which is a little gay, but I have the new album pre-ordered anyway. I will get everything properly in time.

edit: fuck this thing is CATCHY oh god everytime I hear new Nightwish I swear I'll cream myself

black tape for a blue girl - Jamais Pars

One of my favourite gothic bands for sure. The track is very simple yet it keeps the etherealism they show in everyother tracks. Instead of relying on organs and woodwinds as usual, except one REALLY in the background, the track is mainly consisted of an acoustic guitar and Sue Kenny-Smith singing in french. Quite lovely... the best moment is when out of nowhere she starts laughing, adding a great touch to the track.
