Official NBA 2010-11 Season Thread

Toney Douglas is doing work. Billups' guidance and presence might be paying some serious dividends aside from his great play. Perhaps Douglas could develop into a solid enough PG so that we could turn our attention to a superstar at a different position (Howard? :O)

Also, Chauncey Billups has an injured knee or something and I forget how long he's out for but he's a key to the Knicks right now.

He took a knee to the thigh. They're saying its a deep bone bruise/mild contusion. Hopefully he can get back on his feet soon. I'd really like to see this Knicks team go far.

Toney Douglas is so streaky, ever since the trade he had a 23 pt and 24 pt game, both with starter minutes, but they've played 5 games and in those 5 games his stats have went (from Hornets-Bucks game) 10-13, 1-7, 1-6, 1-8, 10-12. He played about 27 minutes average in the games where he scored big and his 1-8 game, he also nearly fouled out against Cleveland, played 30 minutes, and only has about 3 apg in that 5 game stretch. He's really unreliable, but Billups is helping him yes, and once Billups retires, I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to help him. Billups is by far the most respected PG of today's league, he is the most useful PG in the clutch BY FAR. He's got a huge number of playoff games under his belt, he doesn't get nervous, but I digress. Douglas will develop into a stable PG. Probably not starter-worthy, at least not until he learns to have consistent production in his starter minutes, but will be an amazing 6th man and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't turn into a starter, but we need to make use of Amar'e and Melo in their prime, not 5-10 years from now.

They shouldn't look to Howard in this offseason, that would be dumb in reality, but smart theory. Even though they need a C, Howard wants either D Will or CP3 on his team. We should look for the PG that doesn't sign with Howard, or get CP3 before he could team up with Howard. We wouldn't have the money to Howard/PG, unless one wants to dock pay.

Yeah it's something with his quad, but he has a huge impact off the field anyways along with the 2 all-stars.

The Heat lose in pathetic fashion. I wonder how they are going to do it in the playoffs if they can't even close out games in the regular season.

I dunno, hasn't everyone been harping on how regular season games don't matter?

That being said, Heat don't really look like they're built for the playoffs either, but I digress, I'm on the Heat bandwagon, go Heat! And Knicks!

Bibby signing with the Heat is lol. Who wants to make an over/under for how long it takes Karl Malone and Gary Payton to come out of retirement to play for them?

The Heat seriously need to show that they can consistently beat teams over .500. I honestly think my Knicks match-up well against them since they lack a strong inside presence (our achilles heel). I would take our odds in a 7-game series.

I'd take Heat in that series. They may not constantly beat over .500 teams, but they at least have a resemblance of a defense compared to the Knicks.

The Heat are big bullies, 'nuff said. They'll have to play the Celtics if they get past the first round. (The 6'ers are .500 and the Pacers/Charlotte are under .500, I think they will) and they're 0-3 to the Celtics. They're not prepared to be a finalist team. They have a crap bench and pretty meh players in general besides their new PG and their Dwade/LeBron, Bosh sucks. Maybe if their bench was a streaky or a solid bench, they would be doing good against the .500+ teams.

Yeah but the Celtics are a team over .500 going 3-0 against the Heat in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
They just aren't ready, unless the Pacers beat the Celtics, the Knicks beat the Bulls, and the Hawks beat the Magic (Because let's face it, the Hawks aren't that great without Mike Bibby)
And in the finals, 36-12 first quarter against the Spurs says hi.

In other news, the Knicks got 0-3 season sweeped by the Cavs. They actually talk a lot of shit for being the worst team in the league.

They need Mike Bibby? They get better by subtraction if you ask me.

And I was referencing the possibility of the Knicks or Sixers beating them.

Whats with all the Bibby admiration? He's really not that good anymore. He wasted his prime in Sacramento getting destroyed by the Lakers year after year. Now he's a PG in decline who hasn't aged well like Steve Nash or Jason Kidd. And I think the Hawks are better off without him sagging on D. I like Hinrich helping pick up the parameter defense.

Also I find it weird how Nate Robinson got hurt in his first game with OKC. Now they have nothing to show for their big trade for at least a month. We'll see how they do during the stretch run.

The Heat are as fucking terrible as a team this good can be. 2-9 against teams >65% (discounting a win against the Nets at 1-0 lol) now. Sure they can beat up on bad teams, can even beat up on teams who are good, but not any teams that are very good. There are about six teams that it looks like can beat them relatively easily, so just by probability they are not going to get past more than about one of them before losing to another. Celtics/Bulls/Lakers/Spurs/Mavericks are the true contenders. Magic have been inconsistent and shook their team up to their detriment, not benefit (Gilbert Arenas has been shooting 33%, unless that becomes a 50% then lol). I would love a Bulls finals for the nail in the Heat debacle coffin.

I think the problem is that the Heat go ice cold during crunch time in the 4th quarter. But with 2 of the best clutch players in recent years, I'm sure they'll get their act together when playoffs come.

Just because you have two superstar players doesn't mean you'll be good at crunch time. I think their problem has more to do with the fact that they just have two guys who are too used to having the ball all the time and neither can play off of it at the same time.

Plus their bench can't make shots.

I watched a good part of both games. The crowd was interesting because they didn't cheer for a particular team. That became obvious when they just started cheering for whoever needed to tie the game in the 4th quarter and overtime periods.

Williams has been averaging 15-16 assists with New Jersey. If he keeps that up through the rest of the season he might catch up to Rondo. Some of the plays were crazy where he broke the ankles of the defender and passed it to Lopez for the alley-oop.
