No hacks of anykind will be tollerated. What are you whining about anyway. The Showdown in the UK is in MAY. MAY FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD. I Got exams and shizzle.

Either way, they said they'd perform random hack checks so i wouldn't push your luck.

If want to use those, do it on another game and trade the bred pokemon to a different game so you game isnt flagged

That's entirely possible, viperGTS. However, as it states in the official jargon on the website, it is the participant's responsibility to make sure their game/team is free of hacks.

The TLDR is that the rules give the judges a great amount of leeway, basically they can DQ for almost any or no reason. But they do specifically mention hacks. Finding a hack is grounds for expulsion, even if it isn't on your registered team of 6.

(My attempt at a productive post)

Are you feeling it yet? The massive amount of breeding, that is.

Is your thumb tired yet from all the north-south cycling from Route 209 to Route 210? Are your eyes watering from overexposure to the (slightly) smaller DS screen? Do you have the print of the directional pad embedded into your fingerprint? Then I recommend the DSi. Since starting its use, my thumb has gone from red and +-indented to only mildly pink and generally unpainful. You can call it common sense, but it is amazing what difference a lower directional pad makes over time (make that LOTS of time). A combination of its lower threshold of force before depressing and the smoothness of its edges, over the course of 1000-10000 eggs, may actually increase your lifetime as a professional Pokemon breeder. I personally think the DSi has abated my aversion to breeding and increased the amount of it I can do each day.

Happy Breeding,
~Halordain

Hey Chris, what's up? Once I was done breeding(No, my fingers and eyes are perfectly fine :p) I was planning on emailing you asking for some practice matches since you weren't too active here, but if you'll be checking here every once in a while I'll just pm you here. I also wanted to let you know that I actually read your Tourney reports from Orlando and LA, along with your essay on metagaming and they were very good reads. I recommend to others who are new to doubles to read them, because they really are great reads(slightly long though).

How were you able to read those articles? Because when I go to Halordain's home page and click on them, I get an error screen that the url is outdated or that the page doesn't exist. Also, my fingers and eyes haven't been hurting, even with the insane amount of Emerald breeding I have been doing. I think I now have super peripheral vision, because I can now concentrate on the computer screen while biking to hatch eggs (I don't crash into the endpoints of the "hatch route", and no, I do not cheat by turning the sound on). The DSi sounds nice though, and if my special edition Gamestop DS lite breaks, I'll go get a DSi.

Emerald RNG is the most effective way to avoid getting flagged. I'm having Thomaz do mine (he's a beast), and then EV training them myself and maybe trading them over to my brother's Platinum becasue AI bred like two things on my Platinum with AR. >.<

Yeh, it took me less than three weeks to breed my main team of four, I've still got to breed maybe one or two other Pokémon though, just as back-up.

Battling with them on PBR has been great fun :)

So, who's repping Seattle? This event is like a 30 minute bus ride from the University of Washington, wherein I learn, so I'll definitely be there.

Also, if anyone who's been to a previous event would like to give me a few helpful pointers via AIM or PM, or help me theorymon a team, let me know. Same goes for battling! :)

All talk about the legitimacy of Pokemon bred or acquire by other means ends here. This is the first and only warning I will be giving anybody - I would advise you all to keep that in mind.

Anyway, I was wondering, do you think Heat Wave Infernape's will be popular this year? I only have a small counter for them and it is not very reliable.

It wouldn't be foolish to predict that Trick Room and weather-based teams will be the most popular due to their relative effectiveness. Infernape's Heat Wave would take care of most Bronzong without Heatproof and Metagross not packing Occa berry, but from my observations that is why most players are making sure those Steels are doing the opposite. Heat Wave would do pittle to the likes of Snorlax, Cresselia, Togekiss, Ghost types like Dusknoir, Spiritomb, and Mismagius, the Lati twins, all Water and Fire types..

Infernape is frail and won't survive a solid hit without Focus Sash. As a lead it has Fake Out, Encore, Taunt, and priority Fighting moves, but is susceptible to a Fake Out from Weavile. It can shut down Smeargle easily however.

I can see Infernape being run as support (with Fake Out+Mach Punch, it can run a gamut of things suitable) or as a mixed attacker focusing on Special Attack.

I posted this on GameFAQs, but since there seems to be talk of Movesets here, I guess I'll post it here, too. I'm not expecting to set the world on fire with this, especially considering the Pokemon. It probably is pointless musing and isn't worth deliberation, but I think the sillyness makes it somewhat ingenious:

This topic deals with the Pokemon Video Game Championships. For more information on the rules, go to www.pokemonvgc.com

I had a flash of inspiration in light of my own team's weakness to Trick Room, I began looking for a counter to it. Well, if you use Trick Room again, it negates it. Which I found interesting. I considered working TR onto my Smeargle, but I realized that a Fake Out from the Team Mate of a Trick Roomer would ruin my attempt an Un-Trick Rooming. So I did a search of Pokemon with Inner Focus that can Trick Room.

Out of all the Pokemon that can TR, only two have Inner Focus: Alakazam (and it's previous forms, obviously) and Girafarig. Upon examination, Girafarig has an interesting movepool and is slightly bulkier than 'zam.

It's gimmicky, possibly stupid, but we all live to make mistakes, it seems. So here's Anti-Lead Girafarig!

Girafarig @Iron Ball/Something Useful
Ability: Inner Focus
Calm Nature
252 HP/140 Def/ 116 Sp.Def
Trick Room
Magic Coat
Protect
Trick/Power Swap/filler

Girafarig has a myriad of uses that are only marred by it's horrible survivability. And yes, this set is Taunt-Bait. But who'd try to Taunt Girafarig instead of trying to KO it outright?

With Inner Focus, it's immune to the flinching effects of Fake Out. From there, it can proceed to use its moves to mess up the opponent. Trick Room is used if you're facing a Trick Room team to unset their Trick Room, forcing them to set it up again, hopefully giving you that one turn you need to counter their strategy. Magic Coat if you're seeing a Smeargle try Dark Void. Magic Coat reflects the sleep back into Smeargle's face (it doesn't protect your other Pokemon, however), putting it out of comission. Protect is obviously for Exploders.

The last move is variable. You can give Girafarig an Iron Orb and try to trick a Pokemon down to earth and into slowness, or (assuming I understand Power Swap properly) you can go with Power Swap to give an opposing Pokemon Girafarig's amazing base base 80 Attack/90 Special Attack. If you don't need either (and mostly if I misunderstand how Power Swap works) Girafarig can set up some temporary screens, Thief Items, or do many other things in order to get some use out of it's short and fragile life.

I'm expecting massive lols, but here it is. What do you all think?

Well, the Girafarig is there to stop status from Smeargle more than anything else from the looks of it. It could work, then again it is very situational.

I really like the idea of these Good Stuff teams that have the capabilities to take advantage of all the metagame types like trickroom and Rain Dance. I would like to build something like the Chiba Finals winner with Latios/Metagross/Snorlax/Gyarados. If anyone has the ability to make the Timid HP-Ground Latios through EmeraldRNG or wants to trade me a clone of one please PM me I am capable of PlatinumRNG breeding some good IV shiny so let me know.

so I would assume you can register 6 Pokemon, but you can only use 4 per battle right?

Do you get to pick what Pokemon you use before the match starts?
How does this work?

Hey, use whatever you think would work. I know I'm running a Clefable lead and a Trick Room Magnezone, neither of which ar exactly common, by any means. It's all about how this one pokemon can impact the potential sweeps of your team's offensive Pokemon. if it clears out/sets up, it's well worth using.

Iirc, you get to choose whichever four of your six registered Pokemon you want, adn can switch them out in between rounds.
