Official TPCI Pokemon Tournament 2009 | Congrats to all who participated!!

No, sleep clause is not active for this tournament, and it wasn't last year either. This make sleep moves that much more deadly, and berries that cure sleep (lum and chesto) that much more important.
More specifically, the sleep move to worry about is Dark Void Smeargle. I can't see something like Spore-Focus Punch Breloom being too useful since there's the 2nd opponent who can screw up Focus Punch.
omni's brother used Breloom to quite some success in his warstory from last year. Nevertheless, for the reason you stated I also think people will be more prepared for it than last time.
Hypnosis Bronzong was also popular last year, and was most effective when teamed with Dark Void Smeargle so that one opposing pokemon could be put to sleep no matter what (the berry would burn on the first move, then the pokemon would go to sleep on the second). However, with Hypnosis' accuracy being lowered to 60 in platinum, this strategy may see less use this year.
By "english" I presume you mean the tournament in London, in which case no, you must have a European version of Diamond or Pearl to play in the tournament. Platinum move tutors will presumably be allowed, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Hmmm...free trips and great prizes...yeah not worth it at all </sarcasm>
I hate seeing people post "I dont wanna drive X hours", "Its not worth the time", "I hate double battles" ETC.
After reading everybodys posts, I honestly don't think ANY of you read the prizes...
i am more than willing to spend a couple hundered bucks to get the following:
#1 - Trips across the USA. Im going to seattle and dallas for the first time in my life, and returning to phoenix and san francisco. You don't travel for JUST the pokemon tournament, but you do sight-seeing and have fun while you are there
#2 - Meet some great people. i am sure that many of you have wanted to meet each other face-to-face, and this is a great way to do so. I personaly am setting up to meet a friend i met online while in San Francisco.
#3 - PRIZES!. The best reason in my mind. i don't think that people realize the prizes for all this. Trophys, Trips (for you and 1 friend) to St. Louis, San Diego and (You and 3 friends) New york, Hawaii, or Japan, Nintendo Wii, DSi, a CUSTOM DSi, and tons of other cool stuff!
Try buying any of that for the $35 you spent on platinum.
You won't be earning any of that playing Single Battles either...
So get with the program and play in a format that has rewards.
So in short...$35 and some hard work is worth getting a free trip to Japan.
If one hasn't begun playing doubles by now though, the likelihood of actually learning the strategies and developing one themselves is pretty slim (this is excluding actually building the team). I'd love to go (ignoring financial priorities), but without any shot at winning, all those prizes and whatnot you have mentioned aren't valid reasoning. Yes, meeting people and travel are great, but the former will be based on convenience (some locations are a little out of the way for a casual get-together), while travel is a-whole-nother issue (money's tight for a lot of people; see also: Smocon '09). Yes, with enough headway then it might be worth it, but it's crunch-time right now and most people that hasn't been following this (meaning everybody still debating about going) aren't going to come out satisfied.
So has a Japanese chamion been crowned yet?
It's too bad the closest tournament in North America is in Pennsylvania. That's not too far, but I'm saving up for this years Otakon. ):

So no, you don't have to actually get accepted into the competition. You just have to register. And it wouldn't even matter if you registered with all lvl 1 starters, you don't have to actually win any battles!

Ha, i wonder if the milotic will SR'able.... hopefully it is, like with no set nature, or at least a good set nature.
Hopefully, Timid is a good nature for a milotic.
On another note, i just realised something about the $300 travel allowance. You have to go to St. Louis to pick it up? Thats crazy! Now im pressured to get 2nd or 1st, and with all of the good players coming to arizona... thats a problem.... hopefully i just read it wrong, lol.
I haven't checked this thread in awhile, but for once, something comes to Arizona. I wish they would give the travel allowance once you win, but again, that means the stakes just got much more higher, since I couldn't make it to St. Louis without the 300 dollar allowance. :/

The first three are for the Obi-Mode combo, Togekiss is for support (Thunder Wave/Encore/Air Slash/Protect), and Garchomp (Yache) is a last resort weapon.
For my last slot, I'm thinking about Latias or Metagross as my last slot. I'm leaning towards Latias for immunity to Earthquake.
