So, anybody been to last years VGC?
What was the population last year and estimation for this years VGC at San Fran?

Where are my St. Louis participants at??? We should get a group together.

Right here! It'd be cool to meet some people at the tourney and go out to lunch or battle while we're waiting around (I did way more waiting than battling in Seattle). Hopefully we'll get some more Smogonites like me who win regionals and fly out.

i was at the nyc showdown last year. i was suprised how many people were accepted in. all the juniors were aloud in and about 100 seniors. i made it into the top 16 but my knowledge of trickroom screwed me in the end. everyone is saying that 1000 plus people are going to attend philly but i think only a few hundred are going to arrive. my friends have some test prep around that time of year so they unable to come. also traveling to the tournament could be tough. also with not 100 percent chance u can actually play.

Seattle Senior Division Semifinal match. It's Berton vs Danni:

I found the video after searching for other Seattle videos that were uploaded to WFC. Berton must have uploaded it at some point.

Round 4 match involving Danni:

the ralts from PokeGym was danni's Round 4 opponent and saved a video. Thanks go to him for uploading the video to WFC so I could capture it and put it on Youtube.

Does anyone know what the restrictions are on nicknames? I want to name my pokemon after famous drummers, but I don't know if they will be mad because they are real people's names.

AAAAAAAACK! INSANELY IMPORTANT QUESTION!!!

Hello,

This is a question for anyone who went to the Seatle Tournament. It is very important to me, and if anyone out there has a toddler they will understand. My wife and baby-girl will be coming to Nashville with me and I NEED to know if there is going to be any intertainment for my daughter or if they need to go to the mall or something while the tournament is going on. I read that it was next door.

If any of you have toddlers you will understand that they NEED TO BE ENTERTAINED AT ALL TIMES!!!

I heard that there are break dancing pokemon puppet people at the start or something. I know she'd like that. I was just wondering if there was anything else that would hold her attention and also about how long the whole thing took that's important too.

Thanks!!!

You can't name nickname Pokemon with the name of another Pokemon. You can't have two Pokemon with the same nickname. You can't have a offensive trainer name or Pokemon nickname. Famous drummers should be fine. They actually let a guy use a Mamoswine with the nickname SwineFlu so I don't think they are that strict. If you are worried, ask about your nicknames at registation and change them if they aren't allowed.

They do have people in Pokemon costumes come out once in a while. They have TVs that display some of the battles that are going on. Nothing continuous througout the whole day, though. Senior registration opened at 8:30am. They displayed who got picked around 10:20am. The Senior Division ended around 2:00pm. The Junior Division ended around 3:30pm. They post the schedule on TVs in the area so you can check that to see if they made any changes.

Nope. you have to bring your own entertainment.

Hmmmm, it looked like Berton could have beaten Danni in that Semi-Final match.

Berton misplayed the turn starting at 4:18 in the video. He should have OHKO'd Shuckle with Ice Shard and Spore'd Hippowdon. I believe that would have guaranteed a win. Based on Danni's Round 4 match, Shuckle had Leftovers and would easily die to Weavile's Ice Shard.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, why did he aim at Hippowdown at all? Misclick or something?

HeH I know what you mean. I have a three year old and he is a handfull. luckily I got my wife to watch him while im flying to nashville from nyc. She doesnt really know why i still play pokemon but hey, I like the competition. Look foward to seeing all the smogonites there

I didn't notice that the Official rules said 12 European invites were available while the prizes only seem to be handing out 6. You'll have to ask the VGC staff about it.

Yeh, you have to make it to the final at European tournaments to get to the grand finals in America. So, two seniors and two juniors from the United Kingdom, Germany and France.

I watched all three matches with Danni involved, and I have to say he rode his luck in all three of them. He could've been easily beaten by any of those opponents.. Ah well.

I'm finishing up my last Pokémon at the moment, as I have had my team of four for a while now, with a back-up Pokémon - so I'm just breeding my sixth one now. Hopefully I'll be able to make it down to London at the end of this month and have a good go at winning it.

Oh, and although we already knew this because the European locations were posted too early by mistake, they've been re-added now:

United Kingdom - Worlds Qualifier
May 30th
The Circus Space
Coronet Street
London
N1 6HD
Germany - Worlds Qualifier
June 13th
Andel's Hotel
Landsberger Allee 106
DE-10369
Berlin
France - Worlds Qualifier
June 20th
Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie
Espace Condorcet
30, avenue Corentin-Cariou
75019
Paris
I've found some hotels really close by to the UK date, one with just a 1 minute walk to the venue:

The two closest hotels are priced at £69-71 for the one night, so between two people it's easily affordable. Hopefully I'll be travelling down with Kinneas so we can split the cost. It just depends if we can get it booked in time.

I've just got to try and get cheap train or coach tickets now...

I presume 12 means 6 juniors and 6 seniors, 2+2 London, 2+2 Berlin, 2+2 Paris

You don't have to presume:

But you're right.

Three people dressed as the Sinnoh starters have a dance-off (to Circus, in Seattle) right before they draw the numbers for the senior division; I'd imagine they did the same thing for juniors but I didn't stick around.

You will need to find something else for her to do, there is no child-care or entertainment section. I got the feeling they wanted competitors and their same-age-or-older guests as opposed to families with little kids. Maybe more people with young children showed up for the juniors portion.
Most of the time is spent sitting around waiting or standing in line, then comes the actual battling portion, then sitting around waiting for juniors if you make it to the finals. Your daughter will get very bored, I know I did waiting for the names to be drawn.
Not to mention if she begins to throw a fit/cry loud enough, they may ask you to leave due to that 'you/your guests cannot disrupt the event' rule. I'd say send her and your wife off to the mall, they can come back to watch the Pokemon dance to one song at like 10:05 I guess.
