The farther apart you stand from each other, the better. If you're only a few people apart you will likely play in the 2nd or 3rd round. Whereas people at the front of the line were already in the Top 16 before we even got to play our first round match.

Assuming you get in, that is. This applies to the "i was selected to play" line, not the "lemme sign up to play pokemanz" line.

nice team. I actually watched you beat the guy that beat me right before i left. He was your second match of the finals.

I had an arcanine and gengar for back up but they never made play. I also realized i had my lum berry and leftovers on the wrong two pokes after my last game, Lums supposed to be on bron, leftovers on dusknoir. Thats what i get for making my team at 530am and not double checkin.

Man i wish i could get into the irc right now.

nice team but why didnt you run trick room on Dusknoir and reflect or hypnosis on the zong. since your dusk cant be faked outed except by a kangaskhan and zong could. im not saying your team is bad im just curious. ^_^

Well, congratulations to both Dallas and London VGC winners. Now only two American qualifiers are left, Nashville and Philly, so I'm excited to see what comes out of those, along with the rest of the European stops as well. :)

I have I and 2 other friends entering in Seniors for Nashville, and my cousin is entering the Juniors. If anyone would be so kind, I need someone to clone a couple Pokemon for me. PM me if you would.

Do your friends actually know how to battle and have good teams, or are they just going to waste spots? Switching wristbands doesn't work, so unless these friends can play, it would be nice if they didn't fill up the selection pool unessecarily.

Thanks,
Everyone else entering the tournament

Yes I am making the teams, why I need the clones, and I will teach them how to use them, why I made 3 other teams.

This is just a general strategy question for the VGCs...

Which is more important. Sheer Power, Flexibility, or a mix of both?

I have like 7 pokes that are ALL good individually, and work VERY well together, but some combos are UUUUUUUUUBER powerful, but lack flexibility. I'm afraid to go with the more flexible combiniations though because I don't want to show up to a gun fight with a really fancy pokcetknife! XD

How do y'all balance the need for power AND flexability when deciding your teams for the VGC?

???

You want flexibility because if a Wobbufett shows up, you will lose the game almost instantly. then you won't be able to be the Pokemon Master.

But what if you Solar Beam the Snot out of him before he has a chance to Attack?

Has anybody actually seen a Wobba in a VGC match yet? I think you're completely wrong anyway. I would rather smash the hell out of Wobbuffet and hope for a 2hko rather than try something fancy and get encored...

Wobbuffet and Wynaut knocked out Chris, the LA winner from last year, out of San Francisco, it was a silly Perish Song team with Wobb/Wynaut/Altaria/Lapras. So yes Wobb is being used.

Gee...You'd be perfect to ask. Out finess them or just Clobber them and hope for the best?

its really up to your playstyle, finess always worries me because if you screw up you can be out of the game instantly which is why i opt to clobber the shit out of them with repeated strong attacks

This is jumping the gun a bit, but are general spectators not connected to any competitors allowed in San Diego?? I wanna go and watch... ._.

Last year quite a few people showed up just to watch, there's nothing that says you can't go to watch.

Depends on the team really, but it seems in my experience out muscling the other team can cause some huge problems for people who want to set a strategy up, but finesse can surely beat pure power if it has a solid strategy behind it. It's mostly up to your own playstyle and what you feel comfortable with.

+1 :(

Always remember that taunt + wobbuffet = lol. More often than not, wobba's just a dead weight on his own team. The worst that can happen is that you get encored, though I guess that's worse in doubles than in singles.

I only have a handful of posts, but I read these forums all the time. I'm going to the Philadelphia regional. Whether or not I'd be considered a Smogonite, I have no idea.

I wasn't selected last year to play at New York, despite there being just a few less spots than there were people waiting outside. I traded my Pokémon to who I later discovered was EeveeTrainer because he was selected and without a team, but he wasn't so familiar with my strategy or, as it turns out, double battles in general. He lost in the first round. It sucked.

I've got a pretty good idea of what to expect this coming weekend, but I wanted to ask you guys how you think the strategy will evolve from last week to this week, or if it will remain largely the same types of teams.
