OMPL XI BH Power Rankings

(note this is my personal opinion but goes based off of evidence from tours / meta presence / percieved skill / etc)
(also * = managing = can't be drafted)
:golurk: quojova :golurk:
Most likely the best player in the pool. Easily the most consistent player, brings really solid teams, doesn't need much (or any) support. Be prepared to foot the bill for him though; most expensive BH slot by a long stretch.
:finizen: QT :finizen: *
QT is very much similar to quojova; consistent, self-sufficient player that builds solid teams. The main reason they're ranked here is that it's unclear if they'll actually be playing BH (even considering they're almost definitely self-buying), and as far as I can tell, there's less deviation from bog-standard balance, which leaves a wider window open for matchup inconsistencies.

:brute bonnet: Akira :brute bonnet:
Akira (or augustakira; get a badge and change your name smh) isn't known to too many people but has been around since gen 7 and builds innovative & effective structures. Many of their teams focus on anti-meta offensive threats that can tear through teams lacking specific defensive options, and are piloted to a very good degree. Would recommend pairing him with some support though, as sometimes his builds can be a bit wild and random (i've seen Choice Specs + Rapid Spin Iron Bundle or Torch Song Arceus-Ghost for instance).

:registeel: TTTech :registeel:
BH Open winner, resident unmon user. TTTech's builds are consistent and piloted well, and he generally doesn't need a ton of support to do well. His builds also excel at suffocating weakened teams late-game, particularly with Tera threats, and carry answers for almost every feasible option the opponent can bring. Probably the most important help you can give is to tell him to stop using mono-Mortal Spin for hazard removal.

:kyogre-primal: Chessking :kyogre-primal:
Chessking is a good, self-sufficient pickup and is adept at exploiting weaknesses in team structures with creative techs. He pilots teams well and knows how to build to navigate around counterplay options. To be completely honest, I haven't really seen enough of his builds because AFAIK he doesn't build a whole lot, so you'd need to bear that in mind. He also makes some questionable choices sometimes, like Freeze-Dry Kyogre and Improofing via Rocky Helmet (with no other option), so support is recommended.
:lunala: cityscapes :lunala:
city's pretty self-explanatory if you've been around for a while but she was the best SS BH player and is now back. She absolutely has the skills to succeed but will likely need building support as this isn't a familiar meta. You also need to tell her to stop using Zap Cannon because there is a Ground-type on every single team.

:bonsly: xavgb (stresh) :bonsly:
Very similar to the above, great player that is unfamiliar with the meta and so will likely need support. Their signup has "all" but this is second to MnM, so it isn't guaranteed they'll be in BH either.

:solgaleo: Ivar57 :solgaleo:
Ivar57 is a very talented player, winning OM circuit last year and the AAA money tour just recently, but as far as I can tell he haven't been interested in or played BH since the ghosting tour nearer the start of the gen (and BH isn't listed in his signup). He could probably sub in if an emergency happened but would likely need building support + you're buying him for AAA anyway so be prepared to pay a lot.

:iron bundle: Sevag :iron bundle:
Sevag has played a decent amount of BH this gen and obviously has a wealth of experience but has largely stopped since he stepped down from council. It remains to be seen how they pick up the tier again, similar to the above two.

:duskull: Onyx Onix 7 :duskull:
Onyx is terrifying to play against as their builds are about as far from standard as you could get. Many of their teams rely on surprise factor to win games with strats like Prankster + Destiny Bond, Perish trapping, and Normalize + Entrainment trapping. It should be a given that consistency isn't the main goal here, so drafting him as the main show is risky.
:nihilego: Nihilslave :nihilego:
Nihil has a decent amount of experience this gen and is a very capable builder, although they've stated in their signup that they only want to support and wouldn't be a starter. Could pair very well with another player like TTTech or quojova.

:sprigatito: Codename C.A.T :sprigatito:
CAT has played a decent amount of BH earlier in the gen but as far as I know they stopped not long before the Zacian-C ban. I think they'd be a useful support option if they can get up to scratch.

:unown-question: pannu, Tanny89k, LuciShrimp, damflame 3, tzaur, pdt, career ended :unown-question:
These are players that I know have had reasonable BH success but i'm not sure on their current status with the tier. Buying these players in combination with others or testing their experience with the current meta is recommended. pdt has the largest record but also hasn't played a single game of SV. pannu is also unlikely to play BH unless they have to.

:tauros: willdbeast :tauros:
View attachment 515423
resident funnyman, draft at all costs (despite his 0 gen 9 experience)
:polteageist: Tea Guzzler :polteageist: *
I will definitely be self-buying. Looking forward to competing as the pool here looks to be very competitive, and on top of that, we don't need to be overly concerned with a HOME drop (leaving more room for "stable" innovation). I'm generally the person bringing offensive structures that can apply heavy pressure to walls and leave enough room to outplay disadvantage states, and a set 1 double crit hopefully can't keep me down like it did in Open.
you forgor about me lmao, i play BH too

...
Disclaimer: All of these assume no Home, except where specified.
  1. Redflix and Quantum Tesseract - Dubwool Entendres
It's QT, what more can I say? Insane knowledge and skills in playing, building and knowing the community all alike. Redflix also knows 2 metas well, MnM and BH? (not sure about this gen for BH). If QT can provide extensive support like stresh did last year, this is definitely the scariest duo.
  2. hayedenn and Greybaum - W Virizzions
This manager pair has the most interesting personalities to say the least. They are familiar with the community while being strong players themselves. However, beauts hasn't really played gen 9? Unsure if beauts plans to come back swinging but they definitely should aim for the title should it be the case.
  3. drampa's grandpa and kennukem - The Terrible Tyrants
Putting essentially half of the defending champions third might seem weird, but I really value OM's tenure and deep knowledge in helping Tyrantrums win last year. To replace him, kenn will have a big shoe to fill. He's inexperienced, and I'm afraid might also be too nice and can get swayed by already drafted members to influence his choices in a bad way and/or try to draft some friends. This can cause the team to get bidded as others try to force them to upbid and overpay. Hopefully old man pa can keep the situation under control, so long as his back ache, weak knee and various other age-related problems don't get in the way. (Yes I know they are around the same age). They also unfortunately can't really provide that much high quality team support compared to others around them, but hopefully it's enough.
  4. FC and Guard - Soul-Stealing Seven-Star Solgaleos
The AG duo will hopefully secure a win every week in their foothold meta. FC of course doesn't just specialize in AG, he plays STAB and GG at a high level as well. They also have extensive experience managing so budget management and auction tactics should be all too familiar to these veterans.
  5. Dragonillis and palapapop - The Wiggly Family
Dragonillis decided to run it back, but with palapapop in place of Osake. The Wiggly didn't do too hot last season, with many holes and high cost players falling below expectations. If this failure fuels Drago to improve his player choice, then an improvement can be expected, but to what extent?
  6. Tea Guzzler and ponchlake - Photon Geezers
Both managers are amazing players in their own rights, don't get me wrong. And their support is top notch. However, little to no experience with managing afaik, combined with the tricky auction, they might seriously be taken advantage of.
  7. Maybca and Eledyr - gods as gholds
A lot of people were surprised that this was chosen over some entries, so the seed of doubt is already there. Seeing that the other French manager pair likely outclasses them, Maybca and Eledyr have a lot to prove and defy expectations.
  8. Magikarp_is_AG and adem - Fluttermania
adem managed APAC in WCoOm last year and has managing experience in general but isn't really involved with the OM community outside of it. Meanwhile, this is Magikarp_is_AG's first time? They can't really provide support themselves, and worse, Magikarp has a big toxicity issue on ladder. If this bleeds out here and leads to lashing out at teammates for misplaying, Fluttermania might crash even harder.
  1. AAA
AAA is really booming this generation, with more posts currently than the entire gen 8 thread. Tour gameplay is frequent and exciting, it's not hard to see why it takes the top spot here. The potential of Home shall elevate AAA further, though it has a lot of broken elements right off the bat which may damage the experience significantly, especially whether the council chooses to allow FurScales or not will be a huge divergence.
  2. BH
BH just banned Ceaseless Edge, which will surely cause a big metagame shift and therefore intrigue in the new meta in a high level competition. It can even take first if Amnael signs up and gets drafted, but that's a pipe dream. With Home arrival though, BH will be knocked down at least 4 places on the ranking due to hype surrounding other metas.
  3. STAB
STAB has really benefited from the move cut, as the meta essentially undoes many of them and differentiates itself from others. Home moves already usable is another big plus that propels its position. However, it does face centralization problems, worsening experiences should it go on. It still benefits from Home quite a lot, with many unique typing from Home also benefitting.
  4. NFE
NFE can use more additions from Home, but the sporadic starter drop already changed it for the better, with many being staples like Frogadier, Dartrix and Raboot. Home will give some pretty broken options (Ursaring and Basculin-White), so the meta might see some scary power creep however. I do hope games aren't just Shing teams if Home ends up getting delayed.
  5. MnM
MnM has sunk lower and lower this gen, even after nuking gen 7 MnM (which imo was a mistake, but it was due to the gen 7 MnM community never posting on Smogon, but there's really a dedicated one) and adding new items. The Uber based metagame is more akin to pre-ban OU based metagame with neither Koraidon nor Miraidon, and honestly struggles to compete with AAA without the true Ubers. Home will pump the number up for sure though.
  6. 2v2
2v2 has seen better days. Currently, between low ladder activity and interest, it seems like there are not enough tools and variety, especially when Morgan herself doesn't want to enter. Don't know how much Home will boost its attraction though.
  7. AG
    https://pokepast.es/054b09d8b88513dd
  8. GG
As much as it pains me to put a meta where I'm a council member last, this is the sad and harsh truth of the current meta. Overcentralized meta, riddled by frustration over prepping for 2 broken gods that eclipse even many broken stuffs in gen 8, in game speed tie (which is way worse than the fabled 130 Speed tie in gen 8) and the lack of options in general are damning. GG's only saving grace is Home, which will instantly elevate it to 2nd place, though there will be a lot of work me and the council need to make the initial experience enjoyable (assuming Home drops on 15/5 like rumored).
Note: No order within subrank
HSU: Haven't signed up
S rank - The titan
None tbh
A rank - The proven
A+
FC - FC has a big advantage pre-Home in that GG resembles Ubers much more compared to gen 8 (which was a more powerful OU). He basically made it to Semi of Open using slightly different variations of the same 2 teams, but adapted and built his own after (I think at least). He might play STAB though, assuming Guard takes AG, but someone to watch out for nonetheless.
ponchlake - It very much depends on how motivated they are, but they can innovate while still having great fundamentals and great judgment in game.
A
crying - If there's someone that can match me in terms of weird strategies, it can only be crying. That said, how wack can you go in this meta? Well, she's a great and proven player with past GG experience, so no doubt about great performances to come.
Greybaum - This is the biggest uncertainty of A rank for me. Greybaum is both knowledgeable and creative, but his meta read can go quite off the rail sometimes, while other times he comes up with some unique but effective meta-defining forces. Well, pre-Home staleness should lower this factor, but in a volatile meta like Home, it may end up costing too much.
Lily - Lily is like the opposite of crying in terms of wackiness, but with great skills all the same. Hasn't touched GG this gen and requires a builder though, but I'm sure she can herself if she has to.
blinkboy - Came swinging outta nowhere. A QF finish wasn't too bad and I hope we can see more from him.
VoltyPichu - As long as he doesn't try stuffs like the Flutter Mane teams against me, he is a formidable opponent to face.
Quantum Tesseract - It's QT, what else to say? Nobody knows where QT will even slot in, but in terms of GG, hopefully we see new teams and not the same two from Open.
A-
kenn - Showed pretty respectable performance in Open with different builds. A self sufficient player is hard to find these days. However, if Home drops, I dunno if he can adapt to the vastly different meta.
Most French players - This may be a surprise, but arcade room did have a lot of GG tours and many French players can compete at high level with various ideas. This includes most French players that might play GG, like Clementine, Les2BG and PandaDoux.
plushietran - Actually has a lot of refined teams and solid plays, though hasn't got the chance to show off.
xavgb - Hasn't touched OM, but since he's still playing OU, should be fine enough. Keep in mind that OMPL coincides with WCoP, so for my sanity please don't overpay on him like all the moccs
RoFnA - Plays a lot of metas and dedicated, but likely will get slotted into STAB.
Fragments (HSU) - Has some unique builds and does very well in GG tours in Tournaments room, a dark horse that can catch others off guard.
lepton - Probably will play NFE, but if she feels cursed, might swap to GG. Did have a cool team with Toedcruel which I like.
B rank - The middle of the pack
B+
Instruct - Swamped by other stuffs, no idea if he will truly dedicate to playing or will he stay behind the scene with demonic sets, but hopefully he enlightens us with something.
swagggod - Got pretty far in GG Seasonal with the help of Dr. PhD. BJ teams, has shown potential but dunno if they have touched GG this gen.
Clas - Clas already has many other things to do and will likely play MnM, but he isn't too bad at GG.
Advt - Plays a lot of meta decently and knows GG rather well, but probably will go STAB.
AlexSaysBruh123 - I need to remind myself this is gimmicky all the time. Has solid builds with some touches of creativity like Lycandusk, definitely a dark horse.
pannu - I can't even tell if pannu wants to take a break from Mons until Home or not at this point, make up your mind.
B
shadowmaster6789 - Does have some experience playing, but is rather limited in expanding and getting too hasty in game.
mimilimi - Unfortunately dropped out of Open, but still did ok in gen 8 and is trying.
hayedenn - beauts definitely can get back, but do they even want to? I don't even know if they want to self draft, or have played gen 9 for that matter.
Baloor - 1-5 in SPL was not a great look, but at least getting drafted is better than many players.
Career Ended - Solid all around player, but have you even touched gen 9 yet?
Frixel - Frixel has been shown to utilize teams well, but I doubt UT can keep providing teams this time, so down he goes.
Fraise - Simply a step below other French players
B-
avyrie - Same as Career Ended
Boingk - Is quite energetic and enthusiastic, but simply can't compare to better players.
Baleblaze - Is currently learning GG by laddering, which is pretty admirable when GG has roughly 1 game per hour (might increase to 1.5 this month though). That said, I wasn't too impressed with him last time I tried him out for another tour.
WMAR - Sadly, he's rarely online and will most likely play MnM, don't expect much if slotting him into GG
Wes8888 (HSU) - Played somewhat last gen, but lost rather quickly in Open
Random solid pilots slotted into GG - Well GG is fairly easy to get into so it's not a bad idea to just try a known tour player, but of course there are risks if your builder fails to provide or hiccups at the start, even more so if they don't try dipping in GG themselves (which is likely considering the lack of ladder activity)
C rank - The rest
Yeah... the rest
... Think I'm wrong?... Prove it... with action, not words... This is just my humble insight, requested by UT...

Edit: So baloor was 2-5 instead of 1-5, but after watching how hard they got outplayed in some games I stand by my ranking.

STAB: RoFnA
MnM: Clas

GG: Crying
Support/Sub: Spacespeakers, One Last Kiss, Despacito87

I honestly believed I did a good job drafting this time. I was able to not only usually end up with the most money overtime but got great players for each tier. I got great helper for both Morgan and Crying, who both are very good at their respective tiers. Taka is the goat, not only getting #1 in the Uber ladder, but dominating in primer leagues. RoFnA even got to #1 in STAB too, so this team is very menacing. Everyone feels very good and well rounded, but the best part is that this would be a BANGER discord server to be a part of.

GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO THE OMPL XI MANAGER POWER RANKINGS - requested by PandaDoux and hayedenn
let's get into this shit

Self-sabotage category:

Number 8 - gods as ghold - Maybca☆〜ゝ。∂ and Eledyr
no capitalization on any of the letters, the witty pun doesn't work I think? and Maybca has some kind of hieroglyphs in their name? SORRY, but this doesn't feel it to me.... maybca next year.....

Number 7 - The Terrible Tyrants - drampa's grandpa and kenn
okay, do I even need to explain? you called yourself terrible ?_? who will want to play for a franchise called terrible? unrelated but I'm completely lost on how many ken's we have on this site now... (not that I have any room to talk about my own name LOL) you guys are carried by drampa's grandpa's name always being so epic so you arent last I guess

Number 6- Soul-Stealing Seven-Star Solgaleos - Fc and Guard
The SSSSS from UMPL returns, the abbreviation is cool, sounds very slick, and Marshadows Signature move is always gonna be a very epic factor. But you are the solgaleos and not marshadows? I get that you want to have the 5 S's but you couldve done Shadows instead. this is kinda disappointing, your names are alright though

You didn't do anything wrong category:

Number 5 - Fluttermania - Magikarp_Is_AG and adem
Fluttermania sounds really cool but like why is it mania? Is there a backstory I'm missing, what does it mean, I'm left with questions..... Magikarp_Is_AG seems like a shitty name at first but the fact that you don't play AG makes it actually better for me. yeah, I don't have much else to say about this team it's just alright.

Number 4 - Wiggly Family - Dragonillis and Palapapop
Truth be told, I love the Wiggly's they were my first OMPL team so you can't really go wrong here. They keep the franchise running every year with re-occurring people from the same team which is a nice consistency. But we did lose out on Gman being on the team which is a huge loss :C that being said a top 4 is pretty good for my French friends :D

You are pretty cool category:

Number 3- Photon Geezers - Tea Guzzler and ponchlake
okay, you guys better be like fans of Geezer Butler or smth otherwise this is a big letdown. Photon on its own is just a very epic-sounding move, I also like how the manager names sound in general. overall everything about this team sounds great, I like it!

Number 2 - W VIRIZZIONS - hayedenn and Greybaum
The manager names sound pretty nice here as well, I think the double n in hayedenn is actually better than one n. But the team name kinda stands out, with the full caps, the meme-meta-joke built-in and there is actually a Pokemon in the name! warning: boomers might not find your name funny though.

Number 1 - Dubwool Entendres - Redflix and Quantum Tesseract
I am a sucker for good wordplay and this is just right that. For some, it might be cheesy though but fuck you if you think that. I also like the names of both managers and I also happen to have a lot of respect for Redflix as he is able to put up with tectonic destroyer for multiple OMPLs.

That's it from me, keep in mind these rankings are 100% UNBIASED and 100% TRUE so if you DON'T like them you only have yourself to blame.
