Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Heat Wave fires that Man/Bat/Scorpion thing. Those jokes about Magnet Rise Steelix made me think about the other Magnet risers? I love the idea of a flying Luxray. I would call it Voltron or Black Lion.

Haha Chou you are completely right, for some reason I was confusing Garchomp with Gliscor (forgetting Chomp is now Uber). Well then, maybe HP Grass is the way to go now on Specs Dos as Grass will still hit grounds like Hippo and Heatwave takes care of grass types and Swampert.
I could still see HP Ice used on Scarf versions as well as the defensive set to kill dragons.

What, you hate Voltron? It was a good show back in it's time.

Anyway back on topic. I'm kinda excited about Chatot having some new toys for no reason. Maybe it's because I like the bird and wanted to use one in my in-game. It could also be become of my long gone parrot, Charlie.

Chatot@Life Orb/Leftover.
Nature: Timid
-Nasty Plot
-Heat Wave
-Hyper Voice
-Encore/Chatter/HP Grass

I'm thinking about SR'ing for Darkrai. Wondering what I should be aiming for, and if people would trade for one. (Mainly due to Nasty Plot inclusion)

Other than that, a decent Heat Wave Zapdos would be my next choice...

Just skimming over the move tutors and I've spotted a Pokemon that has made a freaking huge improvement; Honchkrow.

The Big Boss has always had problems with Steels but between Superpower and Heat Wave it's the Steels who are running scared now. Remember than at 105 SpA, Honchkrow has more SpA than Infernape!

0 SpA LO Heat Wave vs 252/0 Skarmory: 79.04% - 92.81%
0 SpA LO Heat Wave vs 252/0 Metagross: 59.34% - 69.78%
252 Atk LO Superpower vs 4/0 Heatran: 107.41% - 126.54%
252 Atk LO Superpower vs 252/0 Heatran: 90.16% - 106.22%
252 Atk LO Superpower vs 252/80 Bronzong = 44.38% - 52.37%
0 SpA LO Heat Wave vs 252/92 Sassy Bronzong = 47.34% - 55.62%

Very, very interesting! This thing is right up there with Mamoswine in the "how the heck am I supposed to wall this" stakes.

I was just discussing that with someone else today, as soon as Cyrus' Honchkrow Heat Waved my Steelix.

Honchkrow @Life Orb/Expert Belt/Focus Sash
Naughty/Naive - Insomnia
252 Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
Sucker Punch/Night Slash
Pursuit
Superpower
Heat Wave

Has great leadoff potential if you ask me, with Insomnia, Sucker Punch, and Pursuit. And the ability to destroy any Dark-resists that decide they want to take it on.

Yeah, looks like a decent lead. The low BP of his STAB attacks and those horrid defences will stop him from ever getting into OU but there really is some potential there as a wall-breaker or anti-lead.

wow nice calcs, with night slash hitting Celebi, Cress, Noir for big damage as well Honchkrow can do quite a number on the walls of D/P (D/P/P now?). With Sucker Punch to help with its not so stellar speed Honchkrow is looking very dangerous. It will probably struggle against bulky water types with Heavy Defensive EV investment and Ice beam to take it out (Suicune).

EDIT: Damn I'm slow

WIth the Acc drop, should I breed Hypnosis onto my Calm Drifblim? I was thinking of making an all-annoyer set with Thunder Wave/Trick/WoW/Destiny Bond(or something)?

Id hate to rely on a 60% accuracy, hence me not including it.

Yeah, that was a rather big setback. Why would you increase the accuracy then decrease it again? Did they think it would become too abused over wifi or did they deduce that during the Nintendo Tournaments?

Not sure, seems silly, since there are other sleep inducing moves that they've left alone..>_>

Anyways Ive a better idea now!
Calm - Think ability really matters? Both could be useful..
Will work out ev spread when I finish breeding, but Lefties number with rest going into Defenses, maybe some speed.

Icy Wind
Destiny Bond
Thunder Wave/Will-o-Wisp
Trick/Knock Off

Icy Wind will be perfect if you can predict a switch, lower the speed of whatever comes in, then you can status/item steal(knock off), then switch out accordingly. When it gets to the point where Driffy is close to fainting, Icy Wind the switch again, and use Destiny Bond.

Vaguely gimmicky but I think it could work well if played correctly?

Edit - Sunday - oh yeah..good call. I think the parent I have has it and DB anyways though.

Is nintendo going to run platinum only tournaments or something (i thought I heard this somewhere). If not, how the accuracy drop for hypnosis work between games. Have any other moves been confirmed to lose/gain accuracy from the shift to Platinum?

Oh yeah, with heat wave HP Fire Krow is now completely fail. Suddenly all those hours breeding for it seem silly. On the other hand this spitback:

Naughty
31 / 31 / 25 / 30 / 26 / 31
Hidden Power Ground 67

Actually, I think I had some non-hidden power spitbacks with all 30-31s. wooh, got to go check the boxes . . .

Oh yeah, now one of my 5 favourite pokemon of all time is actually useful! I'd probably go Max Attack/Enough Special Attack to 2HKO Zong (a bit more then Lee), enough speed EV's to hit 222 (or higher if there are any other targets preferable) and the rest in HP. Heh I'll probably write a peer edit on this when it is relevant but for now... /nerdgasm

Also on an entirely separate note, but Heat Rotom (i think thats it) is looking incredibly appealing to me as a scarfer. Overheat/Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball/Support move seems really good, as Scarfed Heatom outspeeds Hera w/ Scarf by 1 point :D (something Heatran can't do). That and the fact that it resists both SDLucario's priority moves, as well as being able to take at least one + 1 attack from a fair few pokemon mean that I'll definately be using this thing :)

I hope people keep remembering that these Rotom don't get STAB on these moves. (I saw a thread today saying Frostom took the place of Glaceon on Hail teams...wtf?)

It still makes a great scarf pokemon since it can do all the things that MS said.

Besides Overheat is a great move for a scarf pokemon since it will usually always have to switch out anyways.
