Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

I'm liking the idea of Superpower Honchkrow, Steels were really the only things that walled its other moves.

So many Pokemon now get Signal Beam...poor Celebi =( It will certainly make using it much harder if people start using Signal Beam

Just remember not to get too excited too fast. In theory, this is theorymon til most of this gets tested. I can see the big improvements, but we don't know for sure how well they'll actually do, and if what we have right now actually has a way around it.

My biggest concern is that this is going to take a lot of the Pokemon we use now, down a notch or two (or even three).

But I can also see a lot more diversity coming. A lot of UU people got some great moves, which means we might be seeing a lot of new stuff. Which sounds like fun. And we're all for that, aren't we?

Ice Punch Lucario seems to be a non-issue for SD sets. As you could already run HP Ice on Lucario with no EV investment to get the same effect (raping Gliscor), you still have to either give up ExtremeSpeed or a vital coverage move to use it. So all it does is shift around who "counters" it a bit.

It's a little better than that! Lucario no longer needs to decide between Crunch/Stone Edge/Hidden Power Ice in that last slot as Ice Punch neatly wraps up the best qualities of those three moves. +2 Ice Punch OHKO's Gengar and is only marginally weaker against Celebi. Bulky Zapdos is no longer a counter and Salamence seriously needs to watch it's step when switching in. Best of all Gliscor has got no chance. Bullet Punch is the only other move worth considering now.

Choice Band Lucario is also looking pretty viable now. RIP SpecsLuke. :(

I'm liking the idea of Earth Power Torkoal, should make a decent Set-up Spinner. SR/RS/Earth Power/Overheat//Lava Plume

Choice Band Lucario is also looking pretty viable now. RIP SpecsLuke. :(
I really did like specsluke ,I never even used SD luke. Shocking, I know. But choice band Luke is looking like the way I'm going to be going.

Also, Empoleon get's knock off? I already find that special wall empoleon fits 4 moves nicely. Knock is going to fit him well though.

I agree with you Johto. That was the first thing I thought when I saw his name up there.

Not to mention I was single-handedly beaten by a Torkoal on PBR anyway...

Outrage Salamence = Uber? Hopefully not; I still want to use mine...

But welcome boosts for my non-bred shinies; Zen Headbutt Medicham, Superpower Luxray...

EDIT: And Signal Beam Manectric :S

holy shit outrage mence and t-punch, i-punch lucario. I can easily see these two guys plus gengar fighting for the #1 spot of OU every month.

Who am I kidding, Salamence is the new ARPE.

According to the Smogon description as it is, Drifblim can't speed itself up when getting rid of its item through Trick. I guess this is because he'd be getting a new item in return or something.

Signal Beam is kind of crappy, I see little use for it outside of killing Celebi. It does hit SE on two things that fare well against Psychics, but generally Focus Blast does the job against Dark dudes anyway.

Outrage on Salamence is obviously awesome. For Nidoking, it's unSTABed, so often I would prefer to be able to switch between effective or neutral moves, rather than being locked into Outrage that never surpasses 120 base power. I'm not seeing the hype.

To be honest, I'm really not seeing any drastic tier changes through this at all. It's Emerald's Metal Sound Zapdos all over again, rather than the huge shift FRLG's Seismic Toss/Thunder Wave/Substitute caused.

That said, this is all theorymon.

WOW, it's like I made my Cursing Venusaur (About 3 Months ago now), I made it for this moment! It gets friggin Outrage!

Wait wait wait, why can't Gallade learn ice punch? Can Ralts still learn it, like in Emerald? I really want a legal ice punch/shadow sneak gallade.

Well, gallade isn't in Emerald >_>

If ralts could learn it though, I would think it makes sense for gallade to learn it.

aqua tail ttar seems interesting

assuming i calced it right, adamant cbtar's aqua tail against 252/252 +def hippowdon does 51-60% ._.

outrage mence is pretty cool but im more excited about bibarel / crobat / scizor / lucario and to an extent gallade (;_;)

also shiftry as noted below ;D

the problem with cb luke is that we take his high attack for garnted but id probably want to use jolly and with cb that's only a net like.... 10% gain in power over the regular adamant lifeorb set =|

sdless luke?

Reason #126748 why Poliwrath is Tyranitar's best general counter? (Along with Hariyama for similar reasons)

Nothing says "lolTar" like getting stuck Aqua Tailing Poliwrath.

This is only a list of Pokemon confirmed when used by the CPU in Battle Frontier. It's hardly all-inclusive.

It'll be interesting to see how restrictive the better moves like Vacuum Wave and Earth Power end up being distributed. The most remarkable aspect of the current list is surely how widespread Superpower is given out, even on stuff like Flareon and Luxray that have been screwed for movepools in the past.

Shiftry gets STAB Seed Bomb and STAB Sucker Punch added to it's rubbish Physical Movepool. Thank god for that.

Also Earth Power allows Garchomp to use a gimmicky Specs set easier now. :D

omfg Rampardos! I loved Rampy in my ingame, my Rock Polish set gets fucked by priority attacks to often though..but still, the Punches is awesome!

Level Up Move Additions:
008 Wartortle: Lv 40 Iron Defense
009 Blastoise: Lv 46 Iron Defense
010 Caterpie: Lv 15 Bug Bite
013 Weedle: Lv 15 Bug Bite
052 Meowth: Lv 54 Feint
053 Persian: Lv 68 Feint
055 Golduck: Lv -- Aqua Jet
071 Victreebel: Lv 47 Leaf Blade
STAB Priority moves are always a plus. Also, VICTREEBEL! FUCK YEAH!
083 Farfetch'd: Lv 43 Feint
095 Onix: Lv 38 Curse
123 Scyther: Lv -- Vacuum Wave
Scyther could care less about Priority moves, but Scizor always enjoys more Priority moves to take advantage of Technician.
123 Scyther: Lv 61 Feint
134 Vaporeon: Lv 78 Muddy Water
135 Jolteon: Lv 78 Discharge
136 Flareon: Lv 78 Lava Plume
Satoshi Tajiri, get over the fact that Flareon killed your parents when you were a child already. IT WANTS FLARE BLITZ, NOT FUCKING LAVA PLUME!
141 Kabutops: Lv -- Feint
158 Totodile: Lv 22 Flail
159 Croconaw: Lv 24 Flail
160 Feraligatr: Lv 24 Flail
163 Hoothoot: Lv 13 Uproar
164 Noctowl: Lv 13 Uproar
182 Belossom: Lv -- Leaf Blade
186 Politoed: Lv 48 Hyper Voice
196 Espeon: Lv 78 Power Swap
197 Umbreon: Lv 78 Guard Swap
Espeon could really take advantage of anyone slower that uses Nasty Plot thanks to its 110 Speed.
199 Slowking: Lv -- Power Gem
200 Misdreavus: Lv 50 Power Gem
204 Pineco: Lv 9 Bug Bite
205 Forrtress: Lv --, 9 Bug Bite
208 Steelix: Lv 38 Curse
212 Scizor: Lv -- Bullet Punch
WTF AWESOMESAUCE! Damn, with this, Scizor now has an 80 Base Power Priority move. SD Scizor is going to rock with this move.
212 Scizor: Lv 61 Feint
213 Shuckle: Lv 40 Bug Bite
227 Skarmory: Lv 20 Feint
236 Tyrouge: Lv -- Foresight
243 Raikou: Lv 71 Rain Dance >_>
244 Entei: Lv 85 Eruption
245 Suicune: Lv 85 Blizzard <_<

My thoughts exactly. Raikou might be able to get some use out of Rain Dance, as long as Tyranitar doesn't come in and ruin its fun. Entei gets a decent addition to its movepool. Suicune is now better on Hail Teams?
265 Wurmple: Lv 15 Bug Bite
270 Lotad: Lv 25 Bubblebeam
271 Lombre: Lv 25 Bubblebeam
GIVE DIVE BACK TO IT ALREADY!
299 Nosepass: Lv 49 Power Gem
300 Skitty: Lv 4 Foresight
319 Sharpedo: Lv -- Feint
352 Kecleon: Lv 14 Feint
359 Absol: Lv -- Feint
377 Regirock: Lv -- Stomp
378 Regice: Lv -- Stomp
379 Registeel: Lv -- Stomp
399 Bidoof: Lv 45 Curse
400 Bibarel: Lv 53 Curse
Overlooked this at first, but now Bibarel can make much better usage of Simple, since before all it had was Defense Curl. +2 Attack and +2 Defense is very attractive.
401 Kricketot: Lv 16 Bug Bite
402 Kricketune: Lv 26 Slash
402 Kricketune: Lv 38 Taunt
402 Kricketune: Lv 42 Night Slash
412 Burmy: Lv 15 Bug Bite
413 Wormadam (All Forms): Lv 15 Bug Bite
414 Mothim: Lv 15 Bug Bite
415 Combee: Lv 13 Bug Bite
434 Stunky: Lv 18 Feint
435 Skuntank: Lv 18 Feint
451 Skorupi: Lv 34 Bug Bite
452 Drapion: Lv 34 Bug Bite
469 Yanmega: Lv 38 Feint
470 Leafeon: Lv 78 Swords Dance
471 Glaceon: Lv 78 Barrier
476 Probopass: Lv 49 Power Gem
480 Uxie: Lv 21 Swift
481 Mesprit: Lv 21 Swift
482 Azelf: Lv 21 Swift
486 Regigias: Lv -- Dizzy Punch
486 Reigigas: Lv -- Foresight
486 Regigias: Lv 25 Revenge
491 Darkrai: Lv -- Ominous Wind
491 Darkrai: Lv 29 Faint Attack
491 Darkrai: Lv 75 Nasty Plot
We have ourselves a winnar. Now we're gonna have even more Darkrai usage in Ubers.
492 Shaymin (Both Formes): Lv -- Growth
492 Shaymin (Both Formes): Lv 82 Sweet Kiss
492 Shaymin (Land Forme): Lv 91 Healing Wish
492 Shaymin (Sky Forme): Lv 28 Quick Attack
492 Shaymin (Sky Forme): Lv 64 Air Slash

More moves might still be in the list of battle Frontier Pokemon: http://pokedex-br.info/battlefrontier-pokemon.csv

I don't really have anything to say that hasn't been said in the Skymin topic already. If it gets Roost, most likely it's gonna be Uber with its stats and 80% SpDef Drop rate.

[*]Giratina can appear both as Another Forme and Origin Forme in Platinum. It will appear in Origin Forme while in the Torn World, and in Another Forme while out of it.
[*]A Platinum orb now exists. When you attach it to Giratina, its Dragon and Ghost-type moves are boosted. Giratina changes into its Origin Forme when it is attached as well.
[*]The ability of the Origin Forme is Levitate and it can learn the moves Mud Slap, Spite and Outrage.
[*]I [Pokebeach] setup a trade between Platinum and Pearl. I wanted to trade my Giratina Origin Forme with its Platinum Orb to Pearl. When entering the trading room, Giratina Origin Forme reverts back to Giratina and its Platinum Orb goes back into the backpack. When you leave the room, you have to put the Orb back on yourself to transform it into its Origin Forme.
[*]The same thing happens with a local battle. Giratina reverts to its regular form and the Platinum Orb goes into your backpack. It does not seem like any of the new forms can be traded or battled with while in their forms. They are exclusive to Platinum for this generation it seems.

Hello better Groudon counter.

Hmm, better attacking stats, but I'd like to know what its secondary secondary type is to all those forms, Electric or Ghost? Probably Electric.

it´s listed in the battle frontier document that gallade gets ice punch and breloom gets thunder punch.
