Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Well Salamence seems pretty broken right about now. All of my speculation has proven true, which is just eww. Fortunately for us Dragonite fans, he has a nice niche at countering Shaymin-S, tho I am guessing the standard OU team's staples will be Salamence and Registeel. DD Kingdra seems extremely appealing, especially with a better secondary STAB than Salamence, and no glaring 4x ice weakness.

Shaymin S will be uber, dont even pretend.

wow do you guys know how much more salamance and DEF GYRADOS going to own with outrage? LOL RAPAGE! There going to be way harder to Kill and SWEEP! omg lol

So, what's the moveset for Bullet Punch Scizor now? Bullet Punch/Brick Break/Sword Dance/Roost with Life Orb? Brick Break over X-Scissor for those pesky steels, especially with the rise in Heatrans. I guess three attacks is viable now, because of the coverage it offers along with Bullet Punch. Roost with Scizor is too valuable though.

I'll be to Pastoria tonight. ^_^

Outrage on Gyarados is pretty pointless without STAB, considering Ice Fang will rape any Dragon not named Kingdra just as hard and not lock it into a move.

I expect DD Kingdra to get quite a boost, though.

Outrage Maro is also pretty pointless as well =(

Outrage Venusaur, however, is a huge "fuck you" to Altaria's face (one...less....wall), and should be one of the main provocations to warrant its ban from UU.

Of course, there are a plethora of Pokemon with Outrage now, but only the dragons really matter. I don't know if I'll run Outrage with Kingdra on my Rain Dance teams, but seeing him fucntion outside of Rain Dance now is a thing of beauty.

Oh really? I guess since there are plenty of counters for it...

Can't wait to use my Rain Dance team with Jirachi and DD Kingdra!

There are barely any counters.

Metagross and Registeel because of clear body + resistance. Heatran could work but spec def drops and a 60% flinch rate are ridiculous.

Lapras has always had Dragon Dance. Did you even bother to check the analysis? It's an egg move ffs.
Umm, do you think I'm an idiot? I meant all of the new moves DD Lapras got to abuse.

Aqua Tail/Outrage/Zen Headbutt sweeps a good amount of UU. =/

It already has Waterfall so Aqua Tail isn't that big of a deal IMO, Outrage doesn't have STAB and locks you into confusion but it could hurt some things I guess, Zen heatbutt is nice for the hax though.

10 BP for 10% drop in accuracy isn't a bad idea for something with 130/80/95 defenses, unless people relly do like the flinch hax to pair up with Zen Headbutt.

Of course, flinching isn't the pure reason why you'd use Zen Headbutt. You can kill Toxicroak who's immune to your STAB, and you get through Weezing and Poliwrath (as well as Hitmontop posing a little less of a problem for you).

Outrage is for crazy sweeping, who cares about whether it gains STAB or not. UU's Steels hate Lapras as is, and don't forget that Lapras has access to Safeguard, which isn't a bad idea at all to use.

Regice, Careful Dragonite, Muk, Crobat, Tentacruel, Bronzong, Zapdos, Metagross, Jirachi(Protect and Wish, Icy Wind/Ice Punch). Is that not a long enough list of fairly surefire counters?

Wait are they still having nasty plot in tutors? I forgot who said that but is that true? if so then You know how gengar would be. That thing will own CHARTS lol. it would effect the whole battling system. You'll see more Gengars with hypnosis then nasty plot then sweep the team. ughh! I already hate gengar enough as it is.

Zen Headbutt is not just nice for "hax", it helps it handle Weezing and Venusaur better, who would otherwise stop you handily (though the latter needs Thunderbolt or it will lose to SubDD Lapras).

Physical Lapras is looking even more viable all of a sudden; Waterfall/Aqua Tail, Ice Shard, Zen Headbutt, Avalanche, Return/Body Slam, Outrage, looks like a pretty solid physical movepool, and Curse and Dragon Dance to boost them. A Jolly Dragon Dancer with Life Orb and three attacks is looking like a pretty viable set in UU.

If you're saying that Safeguard protects you from your own confusion, it doesn't.

Regice takes 25% from stealth rock and cannot switch in repeatedly as already discussed.

Zapdos as previously stated is screwed after switching in + spec def Drop

Dragonite will take a spec def drop and then hp ice is being talked about as the number 1 hidden power along with ground, but then again, thats sort of a cheap argument.

Your jirachi set is incredibly specialized and I already said metagross.

And yes, that is not long enough at all since your basically requiring every team to need two of those.

What seems really scary in UU is SD Shiftry. It gets Sucker Punch AND Seed Bomb with the advent of Platinum, so with Swords Dance it can perform like Cacturne, with a little more speed and the lack of sandstorm immunity, and since NFEs are currently banned until testing, that advantage is absent in UU. Sunny Day teams now have another physical sweeper to chose from, Victreebel, Shiftry, etc.
