Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Except LO Flamethrower easily OHKOs, and his higher special attack means Bronzong/Skarmory can't switch in. Same thing goes for Hippowdon. Look, this thing is definitely not Uber, but it sure the hell is way more unpredictable and more powerful on the first turn than Garchomp ever was. With 110 special attack and Draco Meteor, and now Outrage to go with his base 135 attack, there is really nothing that can switch in safely. The best way to beat Mence is prediction, and the way to beat Garchomp was luck...(Sand Veil mainly). The fact that Mence can be paralyzed and doesn't have STAB EQ to work with means it isn't as effective as a sweeper, but this puts holes into teams that can't just be Wishpassed away, unlike Choice Scarf or Banded Garchomp. That special attack makes all the difference.

I don´t think Salamence is nearly as broken as Garchomp. Because of Stealth Rock, less bulk, and no Sand immunity, bulky waters no longer need to aim for that 269 sp.atk Ice Beam and can thus concentrate more on the defenses. Cresselia does 80% minimum to 6 HP / 0 Sp.Def Neutral Salamence without any attack EVs, meaning that it dies with Stealth Rock down.

I think Super Power is a pretty good addition to Mamo. Bar them inventing an entirely new ice move, I can't see any moves that exist in the game that could help it (and wouldn't seem absolutely ridiculous, ie. Flare Drive/Ice Punch).

I see it as mostly filler, actually. It still only does 45.87 - 53.87% to Sassy 252 HP / 80 Def Bronzong, and then there is of course the attack drop. It doesn´t really hit anything of importance, IMO. Peck at least OHKOs Hera lol.

It's going to be really annoying never being able to count on keeping your item in battle. >.>

Indeed. Timid Trick ScarfGar removes Blissey from the picture and still has the option to sweep. It could even go with Black Sludge, and swap it with Leftovers so that it gets the same boost, but the wall ends up losing 12% each turn. Would this affect steels, though?

steels are unaffected by black sludge, meaning bronzong could counter trickgar assuming it lacks hypnosis.

How about megahorn? :)

I though garchomp's main reason to be banned was because of sandviel + bright power + sub to dodge everything and still most likely live out an attack that hits. Or the chance of dodgeing several ice attacks with yache paired up with sand viel. Salamence still dies from SR/Ice Shard.

on shoddy steels are affected xD

interesting note: steels are not immune to the poison status but they are immune to poison damage, so the one poison inflicting non-poison move, twin needle, can poison steels, but doing so would be so ludicrous its not worth anything.

I think of all the realistic options Mamoswine had in terms of possible gains from Platinum, Superpower is one of the best. Mamoswine finally has a good option for the last slot on the Choice Bander, even if it does "only" ~50% to Bronzong. Think of it this way - What can you do to 'Zong without it? Jack shit, that's what!

Peck is still a not-too-shabby option in the last slot. Bite, too. I prefered that. The things you bite (Cresselia, also OHKOs Gengar on the switch in) tend to be slower and can be flinched.

MAMOSWINE DOES NOT HAVE HORNS. THEY ARE TUSKS.

however, a move that utilised them would be nice. When you think about it, all Cress really does to Mamo is like... Toxic it... standard Cress can only Ice Beam Mamoswine. 'nless it's got Grass Knot. which wouldn't be standard.

Salamence brings something new to the table really. It gets Stealth rock weak and no sandstorm immune for that +1 Atk, compared to Scarfchomp.

hmmm, would a +2 Atk Brick Break OHKO a Blissey 252 Def/0HP Calm?

On the other hand, Dragonite is FINISHED. He really has no more redeeming features. Poor Dragonite.

I tried out both and dragonite's superior defenses are better for ddoutrage in my opinion, but cb mence is @_@.

You can sit here debating whether they're horns or tusks all day long, the fact remains that if Mamoswine jabs you with whatever they are, it's going to fuck you up all the same :P

There is no debate here; look at happymamo with its TUSKS coming out of it's MOUTH:

With Gliscor usage (presumably) going down, how do you think Hera usage will curve? I can see people using Heracross because Lucario got Ice Punch.

edit: shit that thing looks EVIL

It's no Superpower, but Endeavor is a neat addition to Mamoswine too. The family's natural weather immunity and potential evasion in hail makes holding on at 1 HP a more compelling prospect.

FEAR Swinub will be the new standard in level 1 sweepers!

I've already brainstormed on this sometime ago, and;

Fire Blast still does more to every Steel than Fire Punch.
I'd really consider Softboiled in that last slot.
I'm not sure why you're considering Gengar and Heatran when Clefable is still UU.

This is the set I've been dreaming with since it was revealed that Clefable could learn Trick. Sounds quite fun. <3

Even with Adamant? I'll run calcs later but for now I'll take your word on it.

Correct me if Im wrong (quite likely) but isnt Softboiled a Emerald only tutor?

I like using UU Pokemon in OU..
