I don't think so, I have never heard of a translated ROM of Pearl/Diamond before the American release :/

And you shouldn't be so afraid of playing it in Japanese. I mean, it's Pokémon Platinum, not Final Fantasy Tactics.

How would I play a game in Japanese I don't even know what the words mean? How would I know what attacks are which and I wouldn't even understand the new story that good.

I hope that HP bar drops quicker. You could very well die of old age while waiting for Blissey to faint.

They say that the WiFi system has been revamped. Here's hoping we get a way to battle random people without friend codes.

The way you would do it is by understanding the game enough, and since this is the counterpart to Diamond and Pearl, you might be able to use knowledge of those games (and pokemon games in general) to make it through the game.

However, yeah, if you were hoping to enjoy the story then there's not much you can do about not understanding the language.

Just ordered this from play asia after seeing that trailer.

Anyone who has doubts about playing a Japanese game, the latest generation of pokemon games has so many icons and colour coded stuff that its really easy as long as you know the general gist of any pokemon game.

Since I don't know Japanese, I would find breeding on Platinum itself to be difficult at best. What I'd rather do is breed on D/P and just trade them over to Platinum to teach them any special moves they might learn.

Eh it's all numbers and something a Japanese natures chart list wont fix, as the IV's values aren't different in Japanese than in English :P. I'll be downloading this to my R4 the day it comes out, can't wait.

Rumor: Global Battle Station (GBS)
According to an as-yet-unverified rumor, the latest issue of Nintendo Dream has reported a new Platinum feature known as the Global Battle Station, or GBS. This feature would enable Pokémon fans from all around the world to play against each other with these customizable rules:
Basic rules vs. Battle Tower rules
Single vs. Double battle
3-Pokémon teams (4 in double battles) vs. 6-Pokémon teams
Once again, this is still strictly a rumor at this point, so take this with a grain of salt…at least for now. To give the source proper credit, the Battle Recorder rumor did turn out to be true.

I sure hope this is true. This alone would make it worth the purchase, in my opinion. If we do get a Global Battle Station, then Japan will probably see the release of a sequel to Pokémon Battle Revolution not long after Platinum is out. If Platinum gets better random battling than PBR, then pretty much all the latter will be good for is seeing your Pokémon in 3D, and if you happen to like Pokémon that aren't 3rd or 4th gen (!), then there's a pretty good chance they'll look like crap, so it doesn't even fare well in that regard.

Something to note from the new videos, it seems the Lass Trainer didn't get an animation, so maybe it's only for important battles, ie. Gym Leaders/Elite Four and maybe some Galactic Admins. Oh, and I love Garchomp's new sprite, all I can say is they had better not mess up Lucario or Darkrai. The former's back sprite is the same at least.

The new sprites are awesome. Garchomp looks like a velociraptor; me likes.

On another note, I hope there's the option to turn off sprite animation (like in Emerald and Crystal). The sprites in D/P got really annoying after a while, especially for pokes like Barboach which seemed to move forever...

Might you know where to get one of said charts by any chance?

I think that that was a shot from a player vs player battle. It might be that every trainer might have an animation other than other human players. (wishful thinking)

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but at 0.44 in the video, it mentions a 30 on the battle videos, and there's a down pointing arrow. This leads me to believe that you can record up to thirty videos.

Pikachu and Bidoof (on a Serebii pic) are very creepy. Other than that, the new sprites look a lot better.

I dunno, I kinda like Bidoof's new sprite. Gives it a very "Duh?" look, which is definitely appropriate for the dense little beaver. :P

Also, the introduction of a Global Battle Station would be pretty much everything I asked Santa for and then some.

That would be great if the GBS was true! Where it says "3-Pokémon teams (4 in double battles) vs. 6-Pokémon teams" I assume it means that you can do 3v3 single, 4v4 double, or 6v6 of both single and double?

I will be importing the game probably, and I can't understand japanese at all, but since there are numbers, colors, the pictures of the items in your bag, and the fact that it's very similar to D/P, I should be able to manage. At the very worst I can just go somewhere for translations or read a guide on gamefaqs or something to that effect.

i already pre ordered the jpn Platinum and if anyone wants to do the same you can go here and get your own.

Pokemon has to be the easiest game to get through, even if you cant read anything you'll be able to play.

I'm thinking about buying the japanese version aswell, I'm unsure though. How long do you think it'll take until it hits the US/Europe?
Also, how will I be able to battle on platinum when everything is in japanese? Also, in the japanese version, can you atleast click a button so that everything is "romanized"?
At least I could input the romaji into babelfish or something in worst case.

There's no button like that as far as I know. Plus, I don't think romaji works with babelfish anyway. It would be easier to type the kana in question into babelfish. That's what I did when I was playing through Diamond. If you don't know the characters, go learn them on the internet. You have a month or two until Platinum comes out and there are only ~150 characters to learn in total, IIRC. There's no kanji in pokemon either, so you don't need to learn any. Really though, you don't need to understand any writing in the game to get through it.
