Pokemon Riddle

Haha, interesting that we can have such different results... because I was actually thinking it was a Granbull with Quick Feet using Metronome, where Metronome could just really pick anything, accounting for dealing 41% damage in first turn, 28% in 2nd, and then 31% in third.

EDIT: Oh..., ok, looks like TotalPotato beat me to it. :P And yah, Present sounds more realistic.

EDIT again: Just ran some calcs, 120 base power Present does 37 - 47% damage, so 41% is possible. 80 base power Present does 25 - 30% so 28% is possible, but... it doesn't seem like 31% is possible then, unless I guess libelldra's damage calculator's a bit off.

Wait... so was it Present, or Metronome? Or I guess either works?

O yah, for the Ludicolo one, X = Phione and Ludicolo's Rain Boosted surf = 38 - 45% damage. In your description you didn't say Surf is not very effective on X though, but yah, it has to be Phione since Dewgong can't do 8% damage with surf and Manaphy's not UU.

Here's a stupid but pretty easy one. This one will use Dogfish's rules (i.e. all level 100, neutral nature, no EVs, perfect IVs).

Turn 1:
I sent out X.
Opponent sent out Alakazam.
X used Y.
It's super effective!
Alakazam fainted.

Turn 2:
Opponent sent out Steelix.
X used Y.
It's super effective!
Steelix fainted.

Turn 3:
Opponent sent out Blissey.
X used Y.
It's super effective!
Blissey fainted.

This will never ever happen in a real battle, of course. If I did all the calculations right, there should only be one pokemon, but uh... there's plenty of room for me to be wrong here.

EDIT... actually, maybe there should be a ??? line above all the "It's super effective!"s...

Code:
Every Pokemon has a Docile nature.
All of Phiddle's Pokemon have 30 IVs across the board and no EVs.
All of Sticks' Pokemon have 31 IVs across the board and max HP/Defence EVs.

Battle begin!
Phiddle sent out PorygonZ!
Sticks sent out X!
???

Turn 1:
PorygonZ used Y!
X lost Z% of its health.
It's not very effective.
PorygonZ stole X's Focus Sash!
X used Fissure!
???

Turn Z:
PorygonZ used Hidden Power!
X lost A% of its health.
It's super effective!
X used B!
PorygonZ lost 90% of its health.

Turn 3:
Sticks switched in C!
PorygonZ used Rest!
PorygonZ became healthy!
PorygonZ fell asleep.

Turn 4:
C used Guillotine!
It's a one-hit KO!
PorygonZ lost 100% of its health.
PorygonZ hung on with its Focus Sash!

X = ?
Y = ?
Z = ?
A = ?
B = ?
C = ?
I tried to make it pretty tough without being impossible :) The battle messages might not be exactly right (eg. I forgot the message for Rest, so I hope mine is close to the correct one)

EDIT: Setrack solved it on IRC after I gave him one of the variables and threatened to post the answers unless I edited this into my post lol

So does Mantine, so does Poliwrath. Why we said it?

Gyarados used Waterfall.
X restored 25% of its health.

X used Y
It's not very effective ...
Gyarados lost 23% of its health
Gyarados was confused

Someone needs to read more...

Looking through The Smog ssubforum I found a good idea, as well as a link to a somewhat difficult riddle. So I decided to make one. Here you are:

I will post below 2 battle scenarios where X is the same value and Y is the same value. All natures are neutral, no EV’s and no items are held. All IV’s are 31, hidden power is not a correct answer. Both scenarios are at the first turn of battle.

Battle 1

Dogfish44 sent out x
Enemy sent out Chansey
X used Y
Chansey lost 62% of its health
Chansey fell asleep
Chansey is fast asleep

X used Y
Chansey used 48% of its health
Chansey fainted

Battle 2

Dogfish44 sent out X
Enemy 2 sent out Banette
It is hailing.
X used Y
Banette lost 41%
Banette was frozen solid
Banette is frozen solid
X was pelted by hail!
X lost 6% of its health
Banette was pelted by hail
Banette lost 6% of its health

X used Y
A critical hit!
Banette lost 53% of its health
Banette fainted

So… Who/what is X and who/what is Y?

Good luck!
No. X in battle 1 is the same as X in battle 2. Same for Y.

Edit: I hate fast, smart typers.

Another quickie whilst I think:

X uses Thunder Wave
Dugtrio was paralysed.

Let me type.
X is fully evolved.
Girafarig is X. Secret Power is Y.
Girafarig has access to Foresight, so it can hit Banette with Secret Power. It also has access to Odor Sleuth, so it can hit Dugtrio with Thunderwave (and it can know Thunderwave).

[B]Bastiodon[/B] lost [B]2[/B]% of its health.

[B]It Missed.[/B]

Turn Z:
PorygonZ used Hidden Power! [B](Fighting)[/B]
[B]Bastiodon[/B] lost [B]90% - 97[/B]% of its health. [B](292 - 348 HP)[/B]
It's super effective!
[B]Bastiodon[/B] used [B]Metal Burst If you thought it was a 1x Damage Boost[/B]!
PorygonZ lost 90% of its health.

Turn 3:
Sticks switched in [B]Gliscor[/B]!
PorygonZ used Rest!
PorygonZ became healthy!
PorygonZ fell asleep.

Turn 4:
[B]Gliscor[/B] used Guillotine!
It's a one-hit KO!
PorygonZ lost 100% of its health.
PorygonZ hung on with its Focus Sash!
I did this much until I realised it was completely wrong...

I like these riddles. Maybe you should put a list of them up at the front, so people won't have to go digging through the thread when it gets longer. And possibly put a spoiler tag with the answer as well, so they don't have to go digging for the answer later.

Thanks again, and keep writing them.

I'm guessing the Pokémon in question is Honchkrow, but is Y the same move everytime? That's not possible, since Blissey's only weakness is Fighting, which Alakazam is resistant to...I don't know.

EDIT 2:
Everyone's at lvl 100, 31 IVs, 0 EVs, no items. It's pretty easy, but I think I've got something more clever in mind now.

A used Dark Pulse
It's super effective!
B lost 80% of its health
B used X
??

A used Sunny Day
The sunlight got bright
B used Y
It's not very effective
A lost 14% of its health
B's Attack rose! B's Defense rose! B's Speed rose! B's Sp Atk rose! B's Sp Def rose!
The sun is shining

B used Hypnosis
B's attack missed
A used Dark Pulse
B lost 20% of its health
B fainted
A lost 25% of its health
Player sent out Azumarril

Azumarril used Aqua Jet
A lost 33% of its health
A used Z
It's not very effective...
Azumarril lost 50% of its health
The sun is shining
Alright, we know B is Drifblim. So that means Y is either Ominous Wind, or Silver Wind, depending on the Pokémon. I think Z may be Fire Blast, which leads me to guess Houndoom for A, but that can't be right, seeing as Aqua Jet doesn't hit super effective.

So, so far I've got:
A = ?
B = Drifblim
X = ?
Y = Ominous Wind/Silver Wind
Z = Fire Blast

Maybe more later...

My guess may be flawed.

X = Purugly / Furret @ Choice Scarf because both outruns Alakazam with Scarf... Edit: maybe Furret does not have the power to get those OHKOs... anyway.
Y = Assist
All the ??? lines that you should put in --> Purugly chooses a move that is super effective against Alakazam, Steelix, Blissey in turn.

So, for example:

Turn 1:
I sent out Purugly.
Opponent sent out Alakazam.
Purugly used Assist.
Purugly used Night Slash.
It's super effective!
Alakazam fainted.

Turn 2:
Opponent sent out Steelix.
Purugly used Assist.
Purugly used Focus Blast.
It's super effective!
Steelix fainted.

Turn 3:
Opponent sent out Blissey.
Purugly used Assist.
Purugly used Close Combat.
It's super effective!
Blissey fainted.

It could also be any Metronome user with sufficient attack stats. Mewtwo, Mew, Jirachi, or Celebi would likely work.

In this one, all pokemon are fully evolved, have Bashful nature, no items, no EVs and 31 IVs in every stat.

Turn 1
X used Shadow Ball
Machamp lost 43% of its health
Machamp used Rest
Machamp regained 87% of its health
Machamp fell asleep

I'm guessing X is Gengar. Heatran is immune to Poison and Fire, neither of which hits Machamp for super effective.

I'm guessing that Y is Dream Eater? But the message didn't appear in the log, so I could be wrong.

X = Banette - only physical ghost that can outrun Machamp and uses the type combo.

It's a mewtwo.

It's either using me first or metronome. alakazam uses signal beam, steelix uses EQ and blissey is using dynamicpunch for some reason...

... unless the poke is scarfed. It could be lucario?

Okay, I looked through the movelist for attacks that can display a SE message, and ran damagecalcs. With no EVs, nothing is powerful enough to OHKO both blissey and steelix with me first, assuming they'd be using physical and special moves, respectively.

So it's mewtwo using metronome. X-scissor, surf and cross chop.

I've been away for a while, but I'll try to respond to the guesses I've had in the meantime.

Petrie's riddle?

EDIT: whoops, missed something. And Kadabra doesn't learn Focus Blast.

A - Houndoom
W- HP Rock
X- Role Play
Y - Flamethrower
Z - Mimic
As clever as a solution as this is, if Z were Mimic, then Articuno's turn would have "Kadabra used Y", since Mimic becomes Flamethrower.

Good guess, though.

I'll give it a shot.

A: Xatu - The opp. predicted a Psychic attack and switched to this

W: Shadow Ball - Predicted the switch

X: Calm Mind

Y: Me First - This is what lead me to think that A was Xatu, you said Y had perfect accuracy, IIRC I think moves listed as 100% still have a marginal percentage of missing, due to that I couldn't find any other moves that fits.
Though despite the fact that Xatu has 95 Base Speed and Kadabra has 105
to allow Me First to work (Not sure about this), though I also don't know the competence level of the opponent :P.

Z: Hidden Power Rock/Electric [Calm Mind + LO as LR stated, either would work]

I think Y is throwing me off. I'm way off aren't I?
Yeah, you are. Me First has no base power, so it can't be move Y.

Bah, I knew I forgot to say something about mine before going to sleep last night. It's not an Uber pokemon, and it's not Metronome or Assist, lol. Sigh, O well, actually, Alpha/Omega has it correct already anyway.

It's a Lucario holding Choice Scarf using Me First.

Remember Me First boosts the power of the move.
Alakazam's using Shadow Ball/Claw. (Shadow Ball does maximum 105%. I didn't do the calc for Claw, but I'm sure it's way over 100%.) I didn't think about Signal Beam, but it doesn't matter I guess. Maybe it won't do a max of 100%.
Steelix's using Earthpower. (min damage is over 100%, max is 126%)
Blissey is using Brick Break. (min is 169%, max is 200%, factoring in fighting STAB of course.)

Some other candidates for Me First were: Xatu, Toxicroak, Stantler, Slowbro/king, Raticate, Absol, Furret, ... and a few more.

Base 86 Special Attack (Toxicroak) and below won't be able to OHKO Steelix with Earthpower (and nothing comes close to OHKO with Earthquake), so that already only leaves Xatu, Slowbro/king and Lucario. Slowbro/king obviously doesn't outspeed Alakazam even with Scarf. Xatu doesn't have enough physical power to OHKO Blissey with its much lower base attack and lack of fighting STAB, so that leaves Lucario. Yeah, I totally forgot about Ubers.

Bah, sorry. I'll think things through more thoroughly next time. :(

EDIT: Okay, I'm pretty sure I got this one correct this time:

Turn 1:
I sent out X.
Opponent sent out Y.
X used Ominous Wind!
It's super effective!
Y lost 20.8%.
Y used Rain Dance!
OMG it's raining!

Turn 2:
X used Psybeam!
It's not very effective!
Y lost 19.5%.
--- That's all that's needed ---

Neutral nature Level 100 no EVs perfect IVs.

OK, here's one. UU battle. You lead with Kadabra, and your opponent leads with Nidoqueen.

Opponent switched in A
Kadabra used W
A critical hit!
It's super-effective!
A lost 100% of its health
A held on with its Focus Sash
Kadabra lost 10% of its health

Kadabra used X
???
Foe A used Y
???

Kadabra used Z
???
Foe A used Y
???

Opponent switched in Articuno
Kadabra used Z
It's super-effective
Foe Articuno lost 100% of its health
Foe Articuno fainted
Kadabra lost 10% of its health

Opponent switched in Honchkrow
Honchkrow used Sucker Punch
Kadabra lost 80% of its health
Kadabra fainted
Honchkrow lost 10% of its health

All pokemon are at level 100. Move Y has perfect accuracy and more than 75 base power.

I think this only has one solution. If someone finds an alternate solution, you get a cookie.

EDIT:er, due to a small error on my part, the identity of move W has changed. Also changed a few things to make certain things more clear.

EDIT2: I'm an idiot. LR is right...I do need more information here, since it's kind of the most important information of all. Adding a 5th turn, after which all should be clear. Or at least solvable.
I think I have an answer:

A = Claydol
W = Energy Ball/Shadow Ball
X = Role Play/Skill Swap
Y = Earth Power/Earthquake
Z = Hidden Power Electric

Everyone's at lvl 100, 31 IVs, 0 EVs, no items. It's pretty easy, but I think I've got something more clever in mind now.

A used Dark Pulse
It's super effective!
B lost 80% of its health

There's at least one mistake here. Aftermath wouldn't have been triggered by Dark Pulse, since it's a non-contact move. I don't know if the missing super effective message after Dark Pulse is a mistake, but if it is, it needs changing. I'm going to hold off answering this one because I'm not sure if there are other mistakes here.
