@zerowing = Good point; I had mentioned that in the thread I linked to that it might be different for the USA tournaments, but I suppose I should mention it here also. Edited.

where does this information come from again? I saw you said skarmbliss but where would mike get it from?

8. BANNED POKEMON ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Mew
Celebi
Jirachi
Deoxys (all forms)
Phione
Manaphy
Darkrai
Shaymin
Arceus

Silly gamefreak, always thinking their little pixis are too awesome for tounaments. Including freaking Phione. Really.

Aside from that, weather is going to be very popular, and the choice of which 2 ubers that will be used on a team is going to be very important.

Hope this doesn't become a Kyogre/Rayquaza fest though.

Yeah, I understand Darkrai, but Shaymin, Jirachi, and Celebi? What the hell. I might actually go to this with these new rules.

yeah, member pshfe, spoke to Mike Lesik a couple of days ago and hes still aiming for last years rules over here, he says us rules should be announced by the first of the year

Is there a precedent for different rulesets in qualifying tournaments (of different countries) leading up to Worlds? If not, I don't see any reason why anyone would expect different rules for the VGCs in other countries.

Event Pokemon. The fact that Rotom-A is available in HG/SS without the need of an event (like Platinum) is the reason why it was not allowed this year but is allowed the following year. Same rules apply for the Battle Tower/Frontier for the same reasons.

how come you said that tyranitar is allowed? o,O is it normally not allowed then?
Normally, VGC is level 50 only, and because Pupitar evolves at L 55, T-tar can't be used.

But now the rule is any Level, as auto-leveling to L 50 will be implemented, so T-tar is allowed now.

There have only been two VGCs so far. One of those was only the US and Japan. As you can see, the VGC is still in its infancy; expect crazy things to happen.

the cardgame, also Mike Lesik who is in charge told me he wanted to have it different so that we didn't have ubers at worlds, he reiterated this to pshfe several days ago

Yea, I would not get too into theorymon for an Uber VGC meta game until after Mike Leisek actually confirms it. Japan runs their own tournaments while America runs their own and as Alaka has already said, Leisek is trying to avoid Ubers. The only way we can know and really dive into Ubers is to wait until an official announcement from TPCI is made.

I would actually prefer it if they use these rules over here. :P

Say, how about somebody adds a poll to this topic? Vote for if you'd prefer these rules or the old ones. Personally, I'm all for this ruleset and for shaking things up a bit. It adds an extra layer to the whole thing: it's like you have 2 captains and 2 underlings in your team. Really makes the battles more interesting, because you have to judge some additional priorities.

"Which should I KO? The Rayquaza or the Garchomp? I could try to have Rayquaza over with now, or I could kill Garchomp first so I can focus fire on Rayquaza next turn." and stuff.

I was hoping they'd restrict the number on certain Pokémon. This has only improved my current team so that people can't just send 4 captains out on me.

When I first read all this, I saw mewtwo with Aura Sphere and I just dropped my pencil. Coverage Sweeper Mewtwo will be a beast! And I mean without Life Orb use Expert Belt, but hey, that's your decision.

Other things to take into account are that we can still RNG SOME of our legendaries.

Another thing is Lucario can use extremespeed in VGC. This is happy times for a pokélover like me. :P

You know, I've seen several people mention "Oh, rain will be dominant because scarfed Kyogre will be there", but I've been pwning Scarfed Kygogre/Ludicolo/Kingdra/Quilfish-whatever teams on PBR very consistently now with a simple goodstuffs team with a scarfed Zapdos lead.

I used to think they were invincible (if anybody remembers my old posts) because I used to lose to them 100% of the time, but now I've figured out how to consistently and easily counter them (they're usually soooo gimicky) so they don't bother me any more.

If these rules come into play for 2010's US VGCs, I don't think they're all that bad anymore, but I'd still prefer to just do it like we did last year. However, I'm gonna wait to hear it from TPCi/Mike first for confirmation. It kind of sucks that Japan gets all this extra time to prepare with getting their games first and getting all this info first. XP

Yeah I'll actually say, I really hope these rules stick for everywhere else.

I'm looking forward to something new and completely different, as opposed to the old trickroom>goodstuffs>rain>trickroom thing we had going this year. It's a chance to have some big guns, and to really use them amongst the regular ones.

And, in particular with 2 ubers allowed, it won't be someone who uses a standard rain team that wins: it'll be someone who goes against the flow and strikes with something out of the ordinary. The test is now shifted to how well you can use what you're given. And that really gets me excited.

So yeah, I'd be so happy if these rules stay for the US and Europe.

Well it looks like Nintendo finally got its head half way out of its ass. The rules seem better than last year, except the ubers thing.

I like the autolevel part. You still can use the 1 Speed-IV-Pkm in Trickroom and at the same time all attacks a Pkm learns and for example the already rngable Platinum-Zapdos. I will try to build a team with T'tar but its going to be hard with all the watermoves, bulletpunches ...

It will be the first time that I play competitivly with Ubers when they fit in my team. It's just a shame that Rayquaza is allowed when Dragonite gets Extremspeed ...

Haha. Most will, but I won't.

I've already decided to cancel it out. That's all I'll say about my team.

Hail teams were my biggest problems when I practiced for last year's VGC. Having to deal with two fast Pokemon that have 100% Accurate Blizzards isn't fun. Rain and Sun weren't as big an issue for me, 'cause they needed a turn to set up, and by the time it happened, two of my opponent's Pokemon were asleep. :)

As far as one type of team being dominant: idk. Kyogre and Groudon will make Rain and Sun much more usable because you don't have to set them up. The usage of both will likely spike because of it, but Rayquaza is the perfect counter to those teams.

Im wondering how much SD mewtwo will be used in this tourney...
I'd take a guess of none getting past the first round. :P
Setup moves aren't practical at all in doubles, even less so VGC. Maybe the odd DD/SD Rayquaza, but that'd require significant support and isn't all that useable. Blizzard and Explosion completely screw it over, too.

At the moment I'm drafting my team (though not too seriously). And I have to say, this metagame looks a whole lot more interesting than standard VGC rules. For one, nobody has any experience in it whatsoever, so it's really level ground for everyone and new strategies must be invented.

DD/SD Rayquaza can be used even with Blizzard (chance to miss as long as he's out), but Explosion makes it harder. Against Non-Exploding teams, something like a Follow Me Togekiss will redirect the damage and allow Ray to setup.

I've already got a beta version of my team set as well - I'm liking the new possibilities that result from the inclusion of the Ubers.
