Matchups :
The intended matchups are Mawile/Zoroark, Slowbro/Gigalith, and Camerupt/Reshiram
Relevant effects for N’s mons:
• All of N's Pokemon feel intense affection towards him, and can pull through for him even in the direst of circumstances. The first time one of them Faints, set that Pokemon's HP to 1 if it is less than 1, then set their EN to 12 if it is less than 12, then discard Fainting from them.
• The specific benefits N's Pokemon have are:
• N's Zoroark is extremely good at mimicry, creating more powerful illusions that still have effects even when broken. If Zoroark is sent out in disguise, they will gain all copyable abilities that the Pokemon they pretend to be has, until they leave play.
• N's Vanilluxe and Gigalith have both been trained to resist the influence of other weathers. Their respective weathers cannot be discarded while they are in play.
• N really likes single letters. All Z-Moves he uses ignore type immunities.
Having 3 Megas means no comboing for me
The Hidden Power choice is intriguing here:
Slot 1: Zoroark, Hidden Power Ice
Slot 2: Gigalith, Hidden Power Fire
Slot 3: Reshiram, Hidden Power Ice
Why Ice? It doesn’t hit anyone super effectively, to hit Camerupt Water would have been more effective, or Ground to hit both Camerupt and Mawile
HP Fire on Gigalith makes me wonder whether Ker wants the Gigalith/Mawile matchup? But then again it’s not like Gigalith is hitting much with 4 SpA in the first place, it could be a bait
Still… why Ice?
REMEMBER TO MEGA EVOLVE
Round 1:
So we have Gigalith with Metronome sent out. Metronome is actually Zoroark’s item so this might actually be a Zoroark in disguise, but I doubt it for multiple reasons:
- Gigalith is weak to all three of my mons’ STAB, so it makes sense as a scout
- Stealth Rock lmao
- Zoroark is best used as a Camerupt lure I think, to prevent Reshiram from getting into an unfavorable matchup
- Copying Turboblaze lets Zoroark Taunt through Oblivious
However, if Ker truly thinks Mawile’s best matchup is Gigalith then it makes sense for it to be a Zoroark to U-Turn into Reshiram and roast me
So only 1 illusion is allowed per match
Sendout will be Slowbro w/ mega stone for several reasons:
- Most expendable team member, doesn’t do a whole lot here and its target Gigalith is weak to the other two
- Good lead since Regenerator incentivizes switching
- Body Press off 13 Def, with both Zoroark and Gigalith weak to Fighting
- Magic Coat to reflect Rocks
- If it is a Zoroark and it switches to Reshiram, Weather Ball deals non-negligible damage to it (18)
If it is a Zoroark, Body Press deals 23 due to Sturdy, Night Daze does 19 or 29 with a Beat marker
If it is a Gigalith, Body Press deals 17, but I don’t think Gigalith can hit it back meaningfully outside of Meteor Beam, which we can Disable
Therefore Body Press gets into a IF able sub, which always goes off against Gigalith since it has no move control, and goes off once against a Disable | Imprison line from Zoroark (which I might be okay with)
Body Press does not beat decoys which is annoying
Subs needed:
- 1 IF able THEN Body Press
- 1 IF rocks not in a combination THEN magic coat
- 1 IF Meteor Beam THEN Disable
- 1 IF Evasive? Do I care about evasive?
Rocks x3 into MC x3 isn’t that bad for me since it costs 36 EN for Ker and reduces his combo possibility. If zoroark then second order is gone, if Gigalith then it cannot easily switch out. Rocks combed is a bit more annoying but it means no combos for the rest of the game (and no Z move since Resh costs a tech)
I suppose if it is a gigalith then raw switch out to something that may or may not be zoroark is scary, but I can simply stay in since Solar Beam is weakened due to undiscardeable Sand and first order would reveal a Zoroark very easily (except if Shadow Ball x3 I guess but that goes far)
If Zoroark Disable | Imprison | sth kind of rocks me but it’s a lot of EN expended
I need a Counter sub oh no
Bye bye evasive sub…
Maybe this truly is a Zoroark and I’m going to get hit with Torment wait Torment has been changed to next round, that’s cool
Eh whatever
Final orders:
Focus Blast x3
At start of step, IF Stealth Rock not in a combination THEN Magic Coat
At start of step IF Counter THEN Signal Beam
At start of step, IF Meteor Beam THEN Disable (Meteor Beam)
At start of turn, IF able THEN Body Press
Weak to confusion, Torment, and probably a million other things
Round 2:
It was a Gigalith CALLED IT
Now we see a switch to a possible Reshiram as predicted, let’s decline and see how it goes. Being badly poisoned sucks, I did not think of that BUT I forced a combo, which means I don’t have to worry about Z-Moves anymore. This should clear my mind a lot and is honestly worth sacrificing Slowbro (probably). I still need to remember the Super Potion and the Endure friendship mechanic.
Next turn we try to switch Slowbro out or die as first order… Switching out is probably better due to Regenerator though. Hopefully Slowbro’s massive movepool will help… I wonder if I can Belly Drum here, even.
Change of plans this is quite obviously a Zoroark, Safety Goggles ignores other Pokémons’ abilities when they attack it, so Mawile wouldn’t benefit from Huge Power or Sheer Force. I might need to go sash Mawile > Knock Off > come back with stone, but this is a big tempo loss
And there’s still the possibility this is actual Reshiram that doesn’t want to deal with Camerupt’s Sheer Force. I think the plan doesn’t change: scout with Slowbro, weaken the enemy as much as possible, then switch out (maybe using Teleport) and try to regain tempo.
Problem: Zoroark does learn Grass Knot, and that does 20 to Slowbro. I think Slowbro has enough tools to put up a fight though, so let’s see
For late: Sash Mawile takes (9+3)*1.5/2 = 9 from Zoroark’s Flamethrower, which… isn’t bad actually
If it is revealed to be a Zoroark then we might (might!) manage to Belly Drum > Drain Punch x2
Belly Drum costs 19 and both Drain Punches heal for 5 while dealing 8*1.5+24 = 36 damage
Light Screen might also be good, Sub might be good, Safeguard might be good, we still need something to deal with the pseudo Endure effect though
Aww subs prevent me from using Body Press
No Protect sub though, so Protect | Teleport | Protect might be a line (I still take 4+2+21+5+2+6+2 = 42 damage though, yikes)
Trick Room is better since I don’t spend EN and Zoroark spends 20
Rest | Sleep Talk | Teleport makes me take 68 damage and heal 40 with Regenerator
I think TR | Teleport | Protect is better, then I switch to Mawile and then what?
[MEGA EVOLVE] Play Rough x3
Once at start of step IF Disable (Play Rough) THEN Focus Punch and replace Play Rough with Brick Break
At start of step IF Counter THEN Draining Kiss
At start of turn IF Zoroark has Evasive THEN Stockpile
At start of turn IF Zoroark has Safety Goggles THEN Knock Off
It’s actually a very frail first order… do I just try to trade Slowbro for Zoroark?
Do I survive using Belly Drum > Drain Punch x2?
T1: 75-19-21-4-2 = 29
T2: 29-21+5-5-2 = 6, deals 36 damage
T3 dead cause no prio move
So no, back to the escape plan > Mawile and try to make the most of first order
Mmm it has Torment too… well whatever we’re out of time
Round 5:
Sending out Reshiram with Firium Z… I don’t think he can use the Z-move since Resh should use up his remaining tech
I have to switch here onto Camerupt and blast blast blast
Orderset should be simple:
[MEGA EVOLVE] Earth Power x3
At start of turn, IF Reshiram has Protection THEN Stealth Rock first instance, Confide any other instance
At start of turn, IF Reshiram has Evasive THEN Smack Down
At start of turn, IF Reshiram has a Decoy THEN Earthquake
Not seeing anything else that’s threatening, Imprison is still active so there cannot be another one, Roar is admittedly quite annoying (maybe Protect | Roar | Protect?) changed Stockpile for Confide, so then even if I’m Roared I can soften the blow a little bit
EPower deals (9+3+2+1)*1.5 or 22.5 23 and I take (9+1)*1.5 = 15 in return… not ideal given the Super Potion still in the bag
Wait what about Light Screen
I suppose the fourth sub will be IF Light Screen is present THEN Earthquake, which does cut my damage a bit but also means a free action for (10+3+1)*1.5 = 21 damage. I don’t think Helios will take that trade
Round 6:
Gigalith comes out again, I pivot on Mawile, take 9 rocks damage and threaten Iron Head for (8+3+2+7-1)*1.5 = 28.5 29, enough to 3HKO with the friendship Endure
Although a better idea is to pivot to Slowbro since it has more health and Mawile is still needed for Zoroark.
Surf does (9+3-1+1)*1.5 or 18, Body Press does (8-1+4)*1.5 or 17, not enough to reach 1 HP in both cases
I can sub “IF Gigalith is below 45 HP THEN Brine” though, which does (13+3-1+1)*1.5 or 24 so Surf into Brine x2 is enough to reach friendship
Surf x3
At start of step IF self-sacrificing move THEN Protect
At start of step IF Gigalith has Protection THEN Future Sight first instance, Slack Off any other instance
At start of turn IF Meteor Beam THEN Disable (Meteor Beam)
At start of turn IF Gigalith has 45 HP or less THEN Brine
I’m getting slowly attritioned due to rocks though, but I can’t take Lifeline Tidy Up until Zoroark comes out with something else than Safety Goggles
Round 7:
FINALLY Zoroark is back out, I’m taking that lifeline
Mawile gets back in, Play Rough now deals (9+3+2+11)*1.5 or 38. I don’t care whether it has an Eject Button, it IS going to take some damage.
Round something:
Well the good thing is that I cannot get Roared anymore I suppose
Now it’s up to Camerupt to clean up house, I’m probably going to reuse the same subs as above except I don’t think I care about Evasive anymore, so I can replace it with a Z-Move sub and get an IF-able sub in because Imprison doesn’t exist anymore
Wait it does get Defog ugh alright Evasive sub it is
