RU Threat List

I think Druddigon should Get a mention as the strongest physical dragon in the tier. With decent bulk and only one or two viable steels (use superpower or EQ/Bulldoze) blindly Outraging often pays off. Even cresselia Takes hefty damage from sheer force boosted crunch. The lack of set up moves is a disapointment but the choice band set can rage through unprepared teams and most counters can be hammered on the switch

I feel the large amount of stupid comments are cluttering up this thread. We should be discussing the threats, not random niche sets. That's better left for the thread made to discuss that kind of stuff.

He's definitely a threat to Pokes that aren't bulky, but it's pretty easy to play around and revenge once he is locked into Outrage since his speed is really lackluster.

Durant and Scolipede are better physical bugs in this tier than Pinsir to be honest.

Durant has Hustle + Hone Claws and 109 base speed stat. With stab X-scissor and Iron Head he wrecks things a lot easier and faster than Pinsir.

Scolipede has Swords Dance, Can absorb Toxic Spikes, has a base 112 speed stat and has an extremely powerful Megahorn.
On the other hand Pinsir has moldbreaker and 125 base attack. Speed plays less of a role in this tier then others and pinsir is noticably stronger then Scolipede (and to a lesser extent Durant), and has massively better coverage then Durant. Think of it as an Heracross without the STAB on fighting moves.

What's Pinsir hitting with Mold Breaker? Cresselia with Earthquake? Shedingja with X-Scissor? All the Pokemon susceptible to Mold Breaker are up in OU (funnily enough because of their fantastic abilities) so there isn't much that Mold Breaker hits. One of Pinsir's niches in OU or UU (if you could call it a niche) is being able to lay Stealth Rock through Magic Bounce. But only Natu exists down here, which I've seen once ever.

Durant hits an order of magnitude harder than Pinsir thanks to Hustle and has great Speed to sweep with. Scolipede has access to Megahorn which hits much harder than a Pinsir X-Scissor while also having access to a nice Speed stat. Pinsir has access to Close Combat which is admittedly one of his selling points but he can only function as a Scarfer imo which also is quite underwhelming because of his lack of high powered STAB moves. I don't think Pinsir is even usable in RU, unlike say, Emboar who at least can have a team built around.

The only thing in RU that mold breaker will be helpful against is Shedinja, and judging from the reactions on this page I'm going to be the only one using it.

We weren't (or at least I wasn't) saying Shedinja is horrible, especially if you have a spinner, it's just not as amazing as you say it is in the competitive field.

Fair enough,

Any use for rapidash in here, he has flash fire, low kick, and higher speed over entei. Also bounce, but lets be fair, its coverage is redundant when he is utilizing flare blitz.

Adamant 252 Scolipede Megahorn VS Cressalia = 52.7% - 62.2%. Pinsir hits the exact same with X-Scissor. Durant hits about 2% more (or misses once out every 5 moves). And Pinsir has MUCH better coverage, Swords Dance, and respectable speed for this tier. But on the other hand Scolipede has Spikes/Toxic Spikes, and Durant has good speed. Have you even tried Pinsir? If not I really suggest doing so.

Also Mold Breaker breaks Sturdy, Solid Rock, Unaware, along with a whole lot of others. I could see some uses right there....

This is just for comparisons sake vs support Cresselia:

Scolipede Megahorn: 47.7% - 56.8%
Pinsir X-Scissor: 40.5% - 47.7%

Yes I have tried Pinsir, I tried him at the start of RU because he's one of my favourite Pokemon and I had him on my Soul Silver game (because he is much cooler than Scyther :P) but really I could not find a use for him whatsoever. I ended up trying to play him like Scarf Heracross in the upper tiers but his damage potential is just no good. His speed also wasn't good enough to sweep with SD and Mold Breaker did not come in handy at all.

Scolipede gets Swords Dance too just fyi, and only lacks Close Combat in his movepool compared to Pinsir so Scolipede actually fulfills the role of a Bug type sweeper pretty well. STAB Megahorn also helps and it's probably the reason why Pinsir didn't work for me because a 120BP STAB attack would make Pinsir a lot more attractive. As it is, the difference between top threat and unusable is slim and Pinsir falls agonisingly just short. If he had 15 more base speed with Megahorn, he would be a top threat...

Scarf sucks. I tried it myself too only to end up discarding it. Choice Band on the other hand put holes in the enemies team. A swords dance set can beat every wall in the tier too. I find he is best suited to open holes in the walls to let another sweeper finish up later though.

Hello, my nickname in Smogon is Gen3 and last time I checked I was ranked 11 in Smogon's RU ladder. My team is Hitmonchan, Typhlosion, Magneton, Dugtrio, Lapras and Entei.

I saw the first page and saw a couple of comments about Lapras and Magneton, both which I use in my team, so I would like to share my sets for those 2 Pokemon and make some comments about them:

CanILevitat? (Magneton) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 248 HP / 220 SAtk / 40 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Substitute
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Reliable Durant counter. If you keep your balloon it can save your life ending a possible rhyperior sweep (It kills back in one shot with flash cannon, and thanks to balloon it avoids EQ and thanks to the HP evs it can take fire punch, if it has it)

Resistances are pretty neat too. Sadly it can't take HP Fire from modest life orb yanmega, but it's a nice pokemon overall.

ONII CHAN (Lapras) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Shell Armor
EVs: 120 HP / 116 Atk / 176 Def / 96 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Ice Shard
- Aqua Tail
- Roar

My P-hazer and tank. It's really surprising how well it can take hits and well, it does the job. It can P haze stuff like CM Entei or kill Yanmegas with priority after a curse or two. SR weakness hurts its viability a lot, but it can take hits very well even after that.

So that's about it. I don't know what else to say because I haven't played in like a week and I think Smogon is down now, but I recommend at least giving those 2 a try before throwing them away.

Feel like an idiot asking this, but what would be the best possible set for ferroseed? Is it better to curse or to set up status and hazards? Please post the sets instead of just saying which is better....

........hazards.

max hp and defense with an eviolite. spikes/leech seed/thunder wave/gyro ball or something. figure it out for yourself.

Thank you Xephyr. I'm thinking of incorporating him into a part bulky part offensive team and guess what? Ferroseed is my fav pokemon next to Ferrothorn. I felt like a noob asking that question because he is one of my favourites....

Leech Seed+Protect Hazard of choosing and thunderwave/toxic (use t-wave) is the general moveset I see.

Hey Master Win, thats my favorite poke too. If you want to make a really good stall Ferrothorn then consider running
power whip
spikes or stealth rocks
Leech seed
protect
hold item:rocky helmet or leftovers

Get taunted.
I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to switch into something that taunts pokes. Besides, even if you were to go into Ferroseed so you can taunt it, you would either run into landmine esque spikes, a t-wave (which i think has been boosted to paralyze you more often), toxic, or you get seeded. None of them being pleasant at all.

I've played RU for a little bit now, got to around #40 or so, which wasn't too bad, but one thing I didn't see at all was Stall. Is stall viable in RU? I would think so, because there are quite a few defensive pokes around, but then again there are a lot of offensive ones as well.

What on earth are you talking about? Ferroseed is perfect taunt bait. Murkrow laughs all day at it.

Thunder wave always hits, and it always paralyzes. Were you possibly thinking of thunderbolt, in which case the Ferroseed dosn't learn it.
