Skymin Discussion Thread

Remember seed flare has 85 percent accuracy. Instead of an 80 percent chance it is really a 68 percent chance of dropping the defender's special defense. @ chris is me Skymin is not like what darkrai used to be. Grasswhistle is not nearly as accurate as dark void and it doesn't get bad dreams. I see Skymin in high OU. Ice beam and heatran way too popular.

Forget hidden power Fire/Ice IMO. Or not forget it, but expand on it. With Air Slash as a STAB move Hidden Power Fighting and Ground also become very viable options imo.

Havak, Ice Punch is helpful to counter Salamence and Shaymin together, but if you want a good coverage with a STAB attack, Iron Head and Earthquake are your choices. Anyway, this Registeel is oriented to counter them, so Ice Punch over Iron Head is the best one. Anyway, Registeel is a good counter, and Regice can do the same with better Special Defense, but without resisting Air Slash and Seed Flare.

Registeel needs more love... and Recover!!

Oh wow, rather than going "omg seed flare 80% drop oober" we actually seem to be getting somewhere. I am going to be updating my post (top 2nd page) on Specs Skymin as more information comes in about counter and other moveset options, ect.

Anyways Registeel is perfect, and I had forgot all about Clear Body. Take out Skymin whilest putting Stealth Rock on the field and supporting your team with Thunder Wave and use Explosion when you're done.

Brilliant.

Hey hey what about Regice did you guys hear me hey hey hey listen to me!!1111

I can really see PP being a huge issue for Shaymin. Switching out of the Special falls, Pressure wasting, and generally being annoying will quickly deplete that PP, to the point that he has to rely on Leaf Storm for kills. Considering it's so easy to resist Grass, and even 4X resist it, this might not be so hard to do.

Still, it's a safe bet that Skymin will be top OU, and your team will definitely have to factor it in unlike Shaymin in DP.

Guys can we talk about the Subseeder? I vision that thing being extremely annoying to deal with and many, many switches will be made with SDef drops/flinches/seed.

Oh dear, I think we have to banish something else to ubers. If you guys have seen what it does with 100 base sp attack and specs, I can just imagine what it can do with 120 sp atk, 127 speed AND serene grace

If this thing is usable then stall teams just got a new toy to play with in a big way. Throw Spikes in the mix and you'll have one hell of a time with that. Nice observation Jibaku.

This is going to be funny if one form gets banned, but the other remains.

Overall, I can see Sky form being popular, but not too dominating. 127 Base Spe is annoying as well, but it's weak to Ice, Rock, and Fire, which are all popular types. And it gets chewed by SRs too.

Skymin @Leftovers
Timid, Serene Grace
252 HP / 6 Sp. Atk / 252 Speed
alternatively you could split the HP EVs between its defenses if you want a low-HP SubSeeder.
Air Slash
Seed Flare / Grass Knot / Protect
Leech Seed
Substitute

Annoying as hell, even without Roost. Can't predict? No problem.

Let's make Rhyperior Uber too he has the highest Attack outside of Ubers an awesome ability and great HP Defense, SDEF patched in sandstream...

This is why we test.

Anyway, SubSeeder looks horribly potent, but not as "scary" as a Specs set. Air Slash is a STAB SE move for Grass types too! Wow...

It might not even be usable in battle, bolt.
battling against opponents in general, or just wi-fi battling?

That didn't set Garchomp back.
Yes, it did. Garchomp is Uber nonetheless but Ice Shard was a weakness that it was forced to deal with one way or another.

Lets just make skymin uber, it doesn't even need to be tested... >_>
are you joking...?

If that's the case... I guess at least the addition of Air Slash to normal Shaymin's movepool is a plus, though it's not broken...

If it's true that Skymin isn't usable on Wi-Fi, would we use it on Shoddy? It would make the most sense to allow it on Shoddy, but some people are just too concerned with "simulating the game exactly".

We should see if it's usable in a Link battle first though, and maybe more verification, to see if Syberia's game wasn't just glitched.

If it's usable in link battling but not wifi, then we would, I'd imagine, allow it. We aren't simulating wifi, we're simulating link battling, otherwise RBY, GSC and Advance simulators would not exist >_>

Extended game exists for just that reason.

As soon as I set foot in the union room, I checked my party, and I had a hedgehog Shaymin where Skymin used to be. Though, there was a picture released that showed Skymin fighting an Empoleon over wifi, so there's probably something we're all missing here.

Don't try Union Room battles. Try a direct-to-another-copy-of-Platinum battle. If it's usable there, then there's no issue. Otherwise, Extended Game.

Jibaku, I definitely think the SubSeeder is going to be one of the most useful sets. I posted this over on Pokebeach back in July when I first learned of its typing and new movepool additions:

You know what set I see working decently well (assuming it's 100 basestat for everything):

Timid @ Lefties
252 HP / rest in SpAtk and Spe
- Sub
- Leech Seed
- Seed Flare
- Air Slash

Pair it with Dugtrio to take out Heatran/Magnezone/Metagross and then rape the entire metagame. With Leech Seed vs. Blissey you're getting over 101 HP per turn, enough so that you can just keep dropping her SpDef and then own with Air Slash flinching without having to worry about not having enough HP for a sub. Celebi switches in? Whoopdeedoo, just drop its SpDef and Air Slash ftw.
It'll block status, regain HP lost due to SR, and rape the opponent. This will allow you to beat out Zapdos quicker than the normal set, but it still has problems with Registeel and Metagross due to Clear Body. However, Registeel can't really do much back when you're gaining almost enough HP every turn to make a new sub (I'm sure if you give it 0 HP EVs and a low IV, you'll heal enough each turn), allowing you to stall it out.
