Skymin Discussion Thread

Wouldn't a SubSeeder with EVs placed in defenses rather than in HP make more sense so that you get more HP gain when you Leech Seed, and since the base derenses are horrible wouldn't it make more sense to raise the defenses rather than the HP?

Also, I would like to note that Seed Flare should be required on the SubSeed sets because of its nature to force switches and ranking up Stealth Rock damage against the opponent, along with Air Slash to keep the opponent from ever breaking your Substitute with that nice 60% flinch ratio.

We know SubSeed is going to be:

Timid @ Leftovers
- Air Slash
- Seed Flare
- Leech Seed
- Substitute

Shaymin-S @Life Orb
-Growth
-Seed Flare
-Air Slash
-HP ground

timid / max sp atk / max speed

No that's not a joke xD
You need to watch out for scarfers / ice shard users before set up Growths though, but in middle-game this thing can be an auto-win.

It's like a steroidal Jumpluff mixed in with Togekiss for good measure.

This thing is nasty.

Crobat counters it to some extent, by which I mean can pray it doesn't get an SDef drop on Seed Flare and then hit back with Air Slash or Sludge Bomb or send it to Sleep with Hypnosis.

For one thing, since it's only usable in Platinum vs Platinum battles, and from what I was told only where both carts are in daytime, this pokemon should _not_ be allowed competitively at all, because it's keeping players out.

If Shaymin doesn't have HP Ground it is walled all day by Heatran and Metgross / Regice.

I'd be surprised if HP Ice becomes even kind of popular.

Psychic is a concern...as it OHKOs 252 HP Crobat lol.

Umm, what? If it works in any situation at all, it should be allowed, as Shoddy is meant to simulate the "ideal" battling environment. Hence max IVs on everything and such.

Wow, maybe thanks to Seed Flare raping Blissey 80% of the time, Regice and Registeel will see more use. It only has a 17% of being 2HKOed by Modest Choice Specs Seed Flare, and that's with Stealth Rock up. Air Slash is a joke, even with Serene Grace it isn't going to topple Regice, doing 25% maximum.

That's a worst case scenario, chances are Regice will come out on top anyways. Registeel would take even less damage from Seed Flare, but HP Ground (used for heatran) does almost the same damage to it as Seed Flare to Regice. Except Registeel isn't SR weak.

Anyways, Specs Shaymin, that nightmare that Bologo uses is beastly enough, and that's only with a 40% chance of a drop. This thing has 15% more Special Attack and drops 80% of the time.

I'm thinking it will get a kill, someone will send in Scarftran or an Ice Sharder, it will run away, come back, get another kill... it's going to be annoying. Maybe if Weavile got in on Psychic it could wear it down a bit.

Timid @ Leftovers
- Air Slash
- Seed Flare
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
This set could be really scary if played well. Sometimes Jumpluff even in OU is annoying to take down, so imagine that fella with higher speed and much higher special attack. I think if SkyMin won't pass the OU testing, the reason will be that set. Especially paired with Dugtrio to destroy counters of it. I had strange idea of... Liquid Ooze Swalot, bulky as much as possible to try counter LeechSeed set. But special def drop will hurt it anyway I think and Air Slash flinch will also destroy it. Someone could run some calcs for max hp/max special def Swalot against this set ? Also Specs sounds scary, Scarf is solid for me. It's going to be top OU, no doubt about it.

If this was directed to my post about SubSeed Shaymin, Hidden Power [Ground] isn't really that great on the SubSeed Version. Air Slash I feel is required because if not then other Grass-types can make fun and Seed Flare is nice just fore general STAB and the ability to makes you opponent switch out because of the Special Defense drop. Besides, if Heatran comes out you are probably behind a sub in which you can scout if it is a Timid ScarfTran of a Modest ScarfTran and take proper action (counter) against it from there.

@ skiddle: The nice thing about the Regis is that the have Clear Body thus negating the Special Defense drop.

Regice walls it regardless of HP Ground, as it isn't weak to Earthquake.

o right I keep forgetting that

still a 17.42% chance to be 2HKOed with something simple like Stealth Rock on the field though (and Regice has to be holding leftovers)

Since it probably won't even need a HP now, a resttalking lifeorb set is way more viable now to keep status immunity, still be annoying and having a way to recover. I'd say this is pretty deadly and most likely uber but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be tested assuming it will eventually be allowed in competative play.

I run a Ice Shard Weavile set that could decimate this thing.

Weavile (F) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Pressure
252 Atk/252 Spe/4 etc.
Jolly nature (+ Spe, - SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Dark Slash
- Brick Break
- Pursuit

Honestly, Stealth Rock is annoying to anything that flies. The fact that it's Flying/Grass will really hinder this thing in my opinion. Flying, Poison, Fire, and Rock still hit for Super-Effective. Rock is definitely used in this meta in the form of Stone Edge. What's really bothering me about this guy, though, is Seed Flare.

May I note here that Skymin does, in fact, have insta-recovery available in the form of Synthesis? While its not the best option available, its there and could potentionally cause probles if used in a Sun based team (SUN GETS MORE VIABLE?).

Its highly impractical in OU due to auto weather pokes. They can easily predict you and switch in T-tar the exact turn you use sunny day.

It seems that people don't take into account Seed Flares 85% accuracy. Though it isn't as bad as Hypnosis' accuracy it still isn't at 100%.

You mean Night Slash?

Umm that doesn't work, because if TTar switches in on the exact same turn, then sandstorm will come out first, which then gets nullified by Sunny Day/weather
