Smogon Simple Questions Thread

Why arent you allowed to get a username of a smogon user who has been inactive for 10+ years?

well, for starters, technically you can, but it's on a case by case basis. but realistically, imagine if you made an account on a website and then life got in the way and you forgot about it. then, a while later, you remember it and try to log in only to find that it doesn't belong to you anymore. i'd imagine most people would be upset! even on the case by case basis that taking an inactive username is offered, it's usually (if not exclusively) reserved as a reward for high-level contributors or extremely well-known figures, and even then you're not always going to get approved for it.

Thats fair, are you saying you’re gonna have to be a admin status to recieve a privilege like that? Or can you become a well known name through battling and winning

badgeholders can request a name that fits inactivity parameters as a reward for being a badgeholder. unsure about how being "well-known" affects it, though

I feel like if someone has forgotten about something for over a decade, they'll probably have also forgotten their signin info and just make a new account.

Add an indicator so I know whether I’m watching a thread with or without email notifications. Sometimes I subscribe to threads I’m very interested in with email notifications, but later, when I visit the thread and see the button says 'Unwatch', I don’t know if I’m receiving emails or not.

This at least exists within the Watched threads section. https://www.smogon.com/forums/watched/threads
It also lets you disable/enable email notifications for individual threads with the menu at the bottom.

I guess, but it’s very awkward to have to go through all that (including searching for the thread) just to check, when the solution is actually pretty simple. As you showed, that information is already stored — you just need to present it in the thread page.

One of the threads in C&C is probably ideal:
Typos and clarity reporting thread: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...-typos-poor-wording-inaccuracies-etc.3618600/
Bugs on the dex: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/dex-bug-report-structural-changes-thread.3656654/

If it's something else, it may be that the analysis is receiving an update (check the C&C subforum for the tier you are looking at) or that it hasn't been cleaned up yet or will be getting a revamp in the future (think removing Roaring Moon references from an OU analysis on a niche mon, for example).
