No, I mean that when ditto copied a gmax lapras, it wasn't gmaxed, but it sprite was the lapras Gmax sprite. It still could only use thunderbolt, sparkling aria, blizzard, and freeze-dry, but its sprite was that of gmax lapras

Yes, they have the Punching move flag in the move data dump (I also tested independently and the damage rolls I got with Iron Fist Wicked Blow / Surging Strikes was impossible without Iron Fist actually applying).

Since a lot of items were added this generation, that means they need to be tested with Fling. While all the potentially useful held items have already been tested, that still leaves a lot of otherwise useless items that haven't been recorded yet, mainly Ingredients and items added in IoA. This is pretty useless information really, but I tested every item I had that didn't already have a Fling base power listed either in the Showdown data or on Bulbapedia.

First though, I did find two interesting things:

• The Rusted Sword cannot be flung. It fails exactly the same way a Poke ball or Ability Capsule does. I assume the Rusted Shield fails too, but I don't have one so I can't try it.
• The Apricorns are able to be flung in this Generation. Looking at Bulbapedia, it seems you couldn't fling them in Gen 4, but you can fling them now.

Anyway, for these tests, I used a level 100 Weavile with 303 Attack, flinging into a level 100 Dusclops with 394 Defense and no item.

• The following items did 18-24 damage, which means they result in a Fling with 10 BP:
  • All Apricorns, Coconut Milk, Fresh Cream, Fried Food, Fruit Bunch, Instant Noodles, Mixed Mushrooms, Pack of Potatoes, Packaged Curry, Pasta, Precooked Burger, Pungent Root, Salad Mix, Sausages, Smoke-Poke Tail
• The following items did 36-42 damage, which means they result in a Fling with 20 BP:
  • Fancy Apple, Large Leek, Moomoo Cheese
• The following items did 50-60 damage, which means they result in a Fling with 30 BP:
  • All sizes of Exp. Candies, Dynamax Candy, Galarcia Twig, Galarcia Cuff, Amorite Ore, Max Mushrooms, Max Honey, Brittle Bones
• The following items did 92-96 damage, which means they result in a Fling with 50 BP:
  • Wishing Piece, Gigantamix, Spice Mix

With that, the only legally obtainable items left are the Rusted Shield which probably fails, and those event Dynamax Crystals with the constellation names. Hopefully those only do 30 BP or something.

Good to know. Wish I knew that when testing all those ingredients. I imagine when Crown Tundra comes out the Ability Patch will fail when flung for the same reason the Ability Capsule fails. That would be signified as having a power of 0 in the Fling table, it seems.

I just tested it. I had a Mold Breaker Pangoro use Circle Throw on a Regenerator Amoonguss. Regenerator worked as normal. This is consistent as Mold Breaker only ignores abilities that alter the success of a move, not ones that have effects after the move finishes. So it ignores Levitate, but not Iron Barbs, for example.

What about bringing IN a Regen mon? I'm not sure when exactly the Pokemon gets healed, but if it's upon switch-in and not switch-out, then it might work the same way how Mold Breaker phasing works with Magic Guard + hazard damage.

420LegitShucks discovers a cool feature with stat calculation by investigating with Eternamax. If you are level 100 and have a stat boosting nature in Defense or Special Defense, Eternamax can reach a large 658 Defense or Special Defense stat. Or so you'd think! 654 Defense or Special Defense is as high as you can go; 655 will overflow to 0, 656 will overflow to 1, etc. SadisticMystic theorized and was later confirmed by the USUM source code that when stats are calculated with natures, rather than multiplying by 11 and dividing by 10 or some similar operation, they multiply by 110 or 90, then divide by 100. Moreover, this calculation is done in the context of an unsigned 16-bit integer, which means the value for such a calculation will overflow if it exceeds 65535. To give an example, suppose Eternamax has Bold Nature, 31 IVs, and 252 EVs. Recall that Eternamax has 250 base Defense. First, we calculate the stat without the nature:

Floor[(2 * Base + IV + floor[EV/4]) * Level) / 100) + 5
-> Plug in Eternamax's stats

Now, this allows you to have a 0 Defense or Special Defense Eternamax. To review, the mechanics of 0 defense is unchanged since USUM; basically, you cancel out the base damage calculation where you attempt to divide by 0 and replace that value with 0. So every move attacking a Pokemon with 0 Defense or Special Defense will result in the attack having a base damage of 2 because of the +2 bit at the end of the base damage calculation. Subsequent modifiers to the move may increase or decrease this, but not by very much.

Note that this overflow only occurs if the stat is naturally calculated. You can't hack in a Pokemon directly with 655 Defense and expect it to be 0; it has to reach that 655 marker by normal means (a direct hack is ignoring the Nature calculation step). Because there was no Pokemon previously with a base stat that high in previous generations, no one would have been able to see this for themselves without ROM hacking the game. Of course, this overflow doesn't apply to HP, because HP does not have a nature component associated with it. It will only apply to Attack / Defense / Special Attack / Special Defense / Speed that has at least 249 for its base stat, 31 IVs, 252 EVs, and a boosting nature.

What specifically happens when the attacking stats overflow to 0? 2 damage again?
This is relevant for Mix and Mega post-DLC, when Kartana will be able to hit the requisite stat.

And Speed? Nothing in standard tiers or OMs I can think of hits this, but it would be good to know.

there's no funky damage formula so it'd just be the slowest thing, or the fastest thing in tr until you break the tr boundary
also there's scale with magikarp/feebas and onix, and ts with shuckle
i suppose non-PH oms can patch this out / say its directly hacked / an alteration after the fact

Chansey/Blissey in Flipped meet the requirements with base 250/255 speed, respectively. Blissey is banned, but Chansey is still fair game.

Add Strength Sap, Guard Split, Power Split, Power Trick, Speed Swap and Gyro Ball to this list. They probably act how one would imagine they would, but they're still worth checking out.
