Gen 8 we return to Gen 7's correctly proportioned/anime style. But what do you say? What did you like from each style? Your best/worst? What would you like to see from Gen 8's graphics that was done by a previous generation graphics?
To answer my own questions. I feel Gen V, specifically B2W2, had the best sprite animations though I do prefer the more realistic proportioned graphics of Gen 7+. That said the Gen 6 chibi models had a sort of cute charm to it I wouldn't mind seeing used elsewhere like in the Let's Go games, so if they continued with those I would prefer they stick with that style.
The worst graphics, hmm. Since I feel it would be unfair to pick on the Gen I & II graphics since they probably did what they could, I'll go with III and IV. Not because they're bad looking, but they probably could have done more. Particularly with the overworld sprites, felt like they stuck with the super chibi appearance out of tradition. Especially in Gen IV which showed with the Pokemon Ranger games they could have made more realistically proportioned characters and give them animations.
As for what I'd like to see from Gen 8 graphics. Well, hard to say since we've been shown the level of graphics and animations they chose to do, and I would have liked them to have improved them since they're maybe just a step above Gen 7 but not by much. Characters do look a bit more emotive so hopefully we aren't going to be perpetually smiling when s*** hits the fan; so hopefully they keep that up throughout the whole game (that said it looks like Pokemon Masters already out-emotes SwSh). Would it be too late to ask giving the Pokemon more dynamic poses during battle? Probably, though we haven't really seen the Pokemon Refresh feature so MAYBE they'll make playing with your Pokemon feel more lively.
I don't think Cosmog's family will be in SwSh (though, could be in whatever 2nd batch of titles comes out next year or the year after), as I have a hard time seeing any realistic connection with Galar so far other than just "let's put them in for reasons".
Or they could be in the Sinnoh Remakes , with the timespace theme those games have there's a perfect excuse to not only have them but the other Ultra Beasts (maybe introduce a few new ones). ;)
If Duralodon truly turns out to be a pseudo-legendary (since we've seen it fight against other pseudos every time it has had screen time) then it could be the coveted high-speed pseudo you're thinking, especially since we know from other screenshots that it has Gengar-level HP, and thus its other stats may be above average as a result.
But Duraludon doesn't look that speedy. Looks like it may be a bulky Special Attacker (even with low HP). That's something they haven't quite done yet, heck the slowest a Pseudo Legendary is Tyranitar at 61 so they could go slower (especially if they're trying to push Trick Room via that new Room Service item). And would also make a nice contradiction with a more speedy Pseudo Legendary.
They could make them Grass / Dragon and Steel / Electric, to represent the power of nature vs technology.
Would like to see a Fairy Pseudo Legendary. We have 6 Dragon-type Pseudo Legendaries, the two exceptions being Rock/Dark Tyranitar and Steel/Psychic Metagross. If they want to go with a nature vs technology theme and we're assuming Duraludon is one it could represent technology. Fairy would make for a good nature spirit, heck, maybe take that literal and make it Fairy/Ghost. I can see something like that being fast, base it on the true fey of folklore.
Okay, is it just me or did the menu icons in LGPE really bother anyone? I almost didn't want to use Ninetales because its sprite was small. I'm liking what I see so far in SwShbut I really hope that the new icons are for all fully-evolved Pokemon.
I don't understand why they didn't give every fully evolved Pokemon a new menu sprite (or just every Pokemon, they only had ). At first you'd think they were just trying to make the menu sprites look correctly sized, but there are some Pokemon which are around the same size as Ninetales yet got a new bigger menu sprite. One notable case is Persian, who still has a smaller menu sprite even though it's a riding Pokemon (guess same can be said for Haunter, it's actually bigger then Gengar but you wouldn't know that from the sprites... or anime... or any other media since everyone ignores the actual sizes since many are nonsensical GF why don't you fix that and the weight? You'll only need to adjust a few moves/Ablities/items).
Hopefully they update more of the menu sprites in SwSh to be more size accurate.
To celebrate Pokémon Sword and Shield pre-orders, have the Pokémon that steals the light from the world.
Sounds appropriate.
More like "have the Pokemon who's additional story elements cramped up its game and ruined the perfectly fine story the previous paired versions had".
