Ah, and here I was about to make a full report on this issue, only to find I'm not as alone as I believed. If it may be of any help at all, I think part of the issue may be related to HTTPS/SockJS interaction, based on this error message that appeared in console when doing my own investigation on this matter for my report:

Hope this helps!

Hey guys, so for the past 3-4 days I am having this problem. I tried from my laptop, my phone and my tab, using different browsers as well as running the application directly. Pokemon Showdown is always stuck on loading for me, no matter where, everything is loading for some reason. Like everything has loading written on it and nothing loads.

1- Linux
2- Firefox
3- Chromium
4- Last few days
5- ruscur
6- So it's just the main server. I was able to briefly connect earlier but it's down again, just not connecting like others say. It is only the main server though, http://pokemonhispano.psim.us/ is working fine for example.

Possible Temporary Solution - Try A Proxy Server:

I recently had to use Ultrasurf because I could not connect to Adobe's servers to Update/Install my Creative Cloud apps and nobody could explain why (I still don't know). I found a reference to Ultrasurf buried in a back-and-forth between another user with the same issue and Adobe's atrocious support staff and it fixed my prbblem; I was able to download updates (albeit at a snail's pace!).

I tried firing up Ultrasurf and now I can access showdown again even though I've been completely locked out for over a day!

I turned of Ultrasurf and now ... it seems to be hit or miss with half of my connection attempts resulting in this JS error:

"Error: SecurityError: An insecure SockJS connection may not be initiated from a page loaded over HTTPS"

So I don't know. It's entirely possible that I just got super lucky and happened to start Ultrasurf at the exact moment it was going to work for a moment anyway but if you still can't connect, it may be worth a shot.

3-4 days. Ya know, i really want to play.

Have you tried deleting all cookies and website data for play.pokemonshowdown.com? I just tried that on my Work PC and it fixed my issue. In fact all I really did was press F12 to go to the Developer console and run this command:

Code:
localStorage.clear();

NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE YOUR SHOWDOWN TEAMS SAVED LOCALLY, EXPORT THEM FIRST!

EDIT: Also you might just try a hard refresh. Ctrl + F5 in most browsers or refresh with the developer tools open in Chrome. Sometimes your browser caches content from an earlier time, like when things weren't working or scripts/APIs were returning errors, and if you just get your browser to ask for a whole new set of files you get the good, working stuff. This seems just as likely to work as some of the API calls in showdown return errors that are not errors per se but completely valid JSON content that contains error information (without an actual HTTP header with some error info, the browser has no reason to assume this is bad data and might want to hold on to it).

If I go through my phone's data I can connect fine, but not my home wifi... maybe ip adresss or dns related?
I don't think there's a definitive solution on our end as it really seems hit or miss most of the time. For now it seems the alternate servers are the way to go. Personally I'd recommend switching hosts because this would be just dreadful service for a paid host; even the cheap ones usually advertise 99% uptime. Who knows how much bandwidth showdown uses or how much that all costs though; they may not have much of a choice.

I did notice that When it fails, I get this error in the console:

eBmgTlA.png

That specifically relates to this function:

6nG742r.png

I don't know how all this works but that function gets called Twice. The first time, the sum of all those variables is this value:

Code:
https://sim2.psim.us:443/showdown

The second time it's called, this is the value:

Code:
http://sim2.psim.us:80/showdown

I guess the error makes sense because the script doesn't want to make an insecure (HTTP) API call when we're in a secure (HTTPS) space. Why all this happens, I have no idea. I don't know where Config.server.host is initially set or why it changes or why ANYTHING would every connect to anything else via HTTP on port 80 instead of HTTPS. If the issue is with the server, maybe it's not properly redirecting HTTP traffic to HTTPS or something. It's all fascinating to look at but I don't know enough about it to probably be of any real help. :(

EDIT 2: If I had to take a wild guess I would say maybe it automatically tries HTTP if HTTPS fails and that's why the connection creation function gets called twice, but only if it's not working. Normally this scenario probably never happens so nobody bothered to check if it would actually work to do that (it doesn't apparently, because you already connected to the page via HTTPS so you shouldn't be trying to make HTTP requests). So it does seem like a bug but not one that is causally-linked to Showdown's current issue (actually the opposite, the fact that the server isn't responding when it should probably brings this bug to light). Of course what really doesn't make sense is the fact that URL appears to work when you visit it.

- I get stuck in the loading screen, both in the client and the browser version, and it's not just me, a friend of mine also has this problem

  1. macOS Mojave Ver. 10.14.6
  2. Google Chrome
  3. Safari, same problem occured
  4. A week ago

  6. Everything is loading, can not play. The rooms are loading, my name is loading, format and teams are loading, I've tried refreshing and even downloaded the client. Still the same problem occurs.

Server maintenance is now complete! Thank you for your patience in this matter, things should work alot better now.
Can play in pc but still "connecting..." on mobile :/ (it works while being connected to wifi but still cant connect mobile data)

Will investigate as soon as possible, dealing with a memory issue server side currently and I also need to finish server migration.

Is Dynamax banned?
I still am able to dynamax in battles, and was disappointed because I was looking forward to dynamax-free meta when everyone in the metagame discussion seemed to be enjoyed dynamax-free games while I wasn't.

What format did you play? Dynamax was only banned from OU and the lower usage-based tiers after the recent suspect, not from every format on Showdown.
