the elbow went unpunished because the ref said he saw the incident and the FA could do nothing even if they wanted to because of that rule

bullshit bullshit bullshit

Sepp Blatter said:
Fifa president Sepp Blatter has said the FA could have retrospectively punished Wayne Rooney for elbowing Wigan's James McCarthy.

Referee Mark Clattenburg, whose vision of the incident was restricted, only awarded a free kick for it.

The FA said that Fifa's rules prevented it from taking action against Rooney by using video evidence but Blatter said it was up to its discretion.

"They can use it in the discipline and control committee," said Blatter.

"They can impose or change a decision if a red or yellow card has been given to the wrong player. If there's violence the national association can intervene and punish a player - this is permitted at the discretion of the national association."

FIFA regulations said:
Article 77, Specific jurisdiction:
The Disciplinary Committee is responsible for:
a) sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match officials’ attention;
b) rectifying obvious errors in the referee’s disciplinary decisions;
c) extending the duration of a match suspension incurred automatically by an expulsion;
d) pronouncing additional sanctions, such as a fine

^the second one is particularly relevant - only punished with a yellow in play, later handed out a 4 match suspension. The FA chose not to do anything.

(also, you do realise that you say 'the FA could do nothing if they wanted to' and then 'the FA just do what they like' with only one sentence in between them?)

hmm in Australia apparently Melbourne is looking at signing Roy Keane to create the dream team of thuggery as Kevin Muscat is the assistant there.

There was an interesting interview by Joey Barton in the news today. He may be a bit of a cunt at times but you can always count on him to speak his mind and come out with something worth reading (and I'd rather that than boring robotic interviews with automated responses).

http://www.nufcblog.com/2011/04/07/joey-barton-interview-will-hardly-help-his-england-chances/

“Honestly, I think I’m the best English midfielder.”‘Luka Modric and Samir Nasri are very good, but in terms of English players Jack Wilshere isn’t bad, Frank Lampard’s on the way down and Steven Gerrard’s been injured a lot.”

“Did you see the game against Germany at the World Cup?’ ‘If you watch the fourth goal, when Mesut Ozil was up against Barry, it was like the hare and the tortoise.”

‘Barry’s got a very good agent,” ” ‘He’s also discreet and always agrees with the manager. He’s like the guy who sits in the front row and listens to the teacher.I certainly don’t lose any sleep when I play against him.’

“‘I’m English and I love playing for my country.” “Maybe the people at the top have a problem with me.” (you don’t say!)

“I don’t know. But the trouble I had was four years ago. They should be able to forgive, shouldn’t they?” “Look at Jordan Henderson against France” “He was up against M’Vila, Valbuena, Nasri and Gourcuff.” “And he had Gareth Barry alongside him. What could they do against those players?”

“France killed us at Wembley. We English will play the next 50 World Cups and we’ll never win one. The people in charge at the FA played football maybe 50 or 60 years ago and still think that we can win a World Cup in the same way we did in 1966.”

“We’re too focused on tradition in England, like always having to play 4-4-2. Sometimes you need to experiment, drop a bit deeper so you have more space to move into. France, Italy and Germany have done it. We’ve been doing the same thing for 20 years.”
Typical controversial, arrogant Barton and he has certainly done himself no favours but he raises some good points. It's nice to see an explanation as to why Gareth Barry is seemingly the first name on the England team-sheet because he's god awful and doesn't even get on the pitch at club level anymore. The last paragraph especially - how many successful teams nowadays play 4-4-2?

And if you read that interview and thought 'wow, how unusually mellow for Barton!' then you should read the rest of it lol

http://www.caughtoffside.com/2011/0...e-dabo-is-a-pussy-for-for-calling-the-police/

The best thing about that interview is that it's very hard to find something to disagree with - he's been in excellent form this season, I've seen him play quite a few times and he is pretty awesome.
I dunno why he hasn't been rewarded with a callup - I guess ostensibly it's about how badly he's behaved in the past but look at the rest of the England team, christ; if they haven't filmed themselves spit-roasting a girl (Ferdinand), assaulted someone (Gerrard, god knows who else), shot a team-mate (Cole), allegedly shagged his best mate's girlfriend, persuaded her to have an abortion and the small matter of 'stripping naked and taunting weeping American tourists whilst they watched live footage of 9/11'.. and that's our fucking captain.

Similarly, Nolan has been on excellent form this season - where the fuck's his call up?

Barton's comments are always worth reading.....

He does raise a few good points though, the Gareth Barry bit was quite interesting although many would probably agree, including myself. The bit on 4-4-2 also is interesting, look at how well England played with a 4-3-3 against Wales, even if it wasn't against the best opposition.

Best english midfielder huh.....well he's not bad, but the best is stretching it a bit maybe.

Every England manager just has to go with Lampard and Gerrard and......Barry. At least Wilshere is getting his shot.

IMO a midfield of Parker/Wilshire/Lennon/Ashley Young is the best that England can put up. If Capello decides to go for 5 in midfield(we can always hope, right?) then stick Gerrard in too.

This should be the England first XI imo:

4-3-3:

---------------------------------Hart----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--Johnson----------Cahill---------------------Ferdinand--------Baines--
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------Gerrard--------------------------------
--------------------Parker-------------------Wilshere------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------A. Young-----------------------------------Rooney----------
--------------------------------Carroll----------------------------------

4-5-1:

---------------------------------Hart----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--Johnson----------Cahill---------------------Ferdinand--------Baines--
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------Gerrard--------------------------------
--A. Johnson---------Parker------------------Wilshere--------A. Young-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------Carroll/Bent/Rooney--------------------------

and Lampard shouldn't even be on the bench.

surely parker would be better suited to the holding role, giving gerrard more freedom to do what he does best?

anyway akuchi and the_chaser should both be scared, get ready for a mighty leeds united business end push!

fuck Leeds, we absolutely schooled you a few weeks ago - it's Norwich tomorrow I'm scared about! potentially the most important game of the season so far..

yea you did beat us good and proper! (despite an obvious handball penalty disallowed when it was 1-0, putting us potentially back in the game :P)

but we're only two points behind you and norwich have a good chance of beating you, so if we beat dickheads millwall we'll go above you :D man who needs the premiership, the championship has been good this season!

Championship has been mint! I admit I was wildly wrong with my prediction that Forest would sneak a promotion slot (what was I thinking, this is NOT february 2010) but god it's so close at the top.

I'd love for QPR to get a points deduction - the entire footballing world would snigger as one. Take that, Taarabt, you bastard!

AMC, I think - he's absolutely fucking awesome on his day (see: boxing day 4-0 dicking of Swansea.. 1-0 at half time, shittiest hangover of my life) but rather inconsistent. He has phases where he just muddles around being a bit of a twat - he's quite petulant and childish. A bit of a Torres, really. Using him as playmaker has pretty much got QPR where they are this season, though, so that speaks volumes. Oh, and he won Championship player of the year this year!

A few things I want to post about, though I don't really care about the Rooney situation. It's done with, as long as we beat Fulham tomorrow no one will bring anything up. So, first thing's first:

301093.png
vs.
993407.png

Kuszczak
Brown Smalling Vidic Evra
Nani Scholes Anderson Fábio
Owen Berbatov
--
Amos; O'Shea; Gibson, Carrick, Park, Valencia; Hernandez

Rafael, Fletcher, Hargreaves and Lindegaard are likely still out, while Evans and Rooney are suspended.

Brown and O'Shea aren't on the injured list now, so one of them will start at right back as Fulham have good height with the likes of Zamora and Hangeland. Nani only played a little in the last two games, so he'll surely start. Anderson has been confirmed to feature (though he may not start) while Scholes hasn't played a game for ages due to a suspension and the internationals. Owen should make his second start of the season in the League..

Kuszczak in for van der Sar (let his groin rest before Chelsea). Smalling in for Ferdinand as he'll start against Chelsea again. Valencia, Hernandez, Park, Carrick, Giggs, and Rooney are all likely getting rested before Chelsea (whether intentional or not).

Not entirely sure what Fulham will do. Back Four of Baird, Hughes, Hangeland, and Salcido. I expect a 3-man midfield, Zamora up top. They got their win against Blackpool, so I think they'll be happy to shut up shop and settle for a point at Old Trafford. They might rest some players like Murphy and Dempsey in favour of getting Sidwell and Gudjohnsen some game time. Saving their key players for matches they think they can go and win.

I think Manchester United will win 2-0.

PFA Player of the Year

PFA Player of the Year nominations: Gareth Bale, Charlie Adam, Samir Nasri, Scott Parker, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Nemanja Vidic, Carlos Tevez

PFA Young Player of the Year Nominations: Gareth Bale, Seamus Coleman, Joe Hart, Javier Hernandez, Nani, Samir Nasri, Jack Wilshere

Most of it, I can't disagree with. But players like Vincent Kompany have missed out when he's been outstanding, while it is an absolute farce that Nani is up for PFA Player of the Year and the likes of Bale and Nasri are.

I'll admit that Nani isn't much of a likeable character, but he's been far better than Nasri this season and no one is noticing it.

Nasri: Appearances: 40 | Goals: 14 | Assists: 4
Nani: Appearances: 38 | Goals: 10 | Assists: 18

As for Gareth Bale, I like him a lot, but his 'season' is basically being defined as his two performances against Inter (albeit against arguably the best Right Back in the world right now). He has 1 Premier League Assist to his name, and 7 Goals.

I just feel sorry for Nani because, IMO, he's been better than Nasri and Bale overall this season, not just in regards to end product either - he's been consistently there and contributing, while improving his play acting that got him disliked in the first place. While, like Berbatov (who hasn't been nominated) Bale and Nasri have had spells of being amazing, then dropped off and done nothing for weeks. PFA Awards are so flawed it's crazy. I bet Bale and Wilshere run away with the awards as well.

However, I'm of the opinion that Vidic has been by far the best for his position. If Vidic doesn't win the PFA Player of the Year Award, then they should basically stop putting Defenders on the short-list.

Rant over, onto the Championship :D

It's really exciting at this stage (though it may have been all season, I just generally focus on the end of the season and play-offs). I honestly think the top 5 will probably stay the same now, just not necessarily in the same order. I'd expect Reading to hold on as well, but late charges from Millwall or Burnley might edge them (and I wouldn't count Forest out just yet).

I really want Swansea in the Premier League, but I also want Leeds back because it means more derbies for my Manchester lot :D I'd also be happy to see Norwich and QPR back.. So as long as it's three of those four, I'll be excited. I'm not so fussed about Cardiff, while Reading and Burnley have had their shots not too long ago. Forest would be a welcome return, while my next door neighbour is a Millwall fan so that could be fun.

I didn't think VDV made the nominations? can't be arsed to check though, haha

I think, were I voting, I'd vote Charlie Adam. Or Scott Parker.

Gareth Bale is massively overrated. I don't think he should even be nominated because there are other players who deserve to be nominated IMO. The only thing he has is speed, and that's it. It's just amazing what can be achieved when the media decide to disappear up a player's backside. Seriously, what has he done? One hatrick against Inter Milan, an aging team that lost 2-5 at home against a bunch of German clowns. I'd be absolutely gutted if he wins one of those awards.

My personal pick would be Scott Parker, but god not Charlie Adam, Holloway already values him at £ 35 million and his price would sky-rocket to £ 70 million (I have to say that Holloway was funny at first, but it's just pathetic now)

Speaking of Charlie Adam, where do you think he's headed this summer? Liverpool are obviously going to try and buy him - and likely succeed - but I can imagine(and hope) Manchester United making a bid. He's potentially the ideal replacement for Paul Scholes, and god knows we need better midfield options than Micheal Carrick. Manchester United also offers Adam a chance to play in Europe.

What do you think?

FIFA are inconsistent bastards because they don't permit football associations to overturn refereeing decisions even if they are wrong. They allow it in areas of serious foul play like when Ben Thatcher knocked out Mendes and got a 6 match ban after initially getting a yellow. Whether Rooney's fell into this category is a different question since you see two footed tackles and elbows that should be reds but are only yellows all the time.

The best thing about that interview is that it's very hard to find something to disagree with - he's been in excellent form this season, I've seen him play quite a few times and he is pretty awesome.

Gareth Barry's automatic selection in the past three years is one of the reasons why England can't do well when it counts. I watched the Ozil race with him again and he gave Ozil a ten yard headstart and ended up 15 behind him. A lack of tactical awareness, technique and mobility but he's somehow a starter ahead of Carrick and guys in form like Parker etc.

This should be the England first XI imo:

4-3-3:

---------------------------------Hart----------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------Carroll/Bent/Rooney--------------------------

and Lampard shouldn't even be on the bench.

Cahill's not experienced enough yet. If we're building to 2012/14 Smalling should be in there. Tons of potential and he's getting big game experience. Baines isn't better than Ashley Cole and is more experienced despite Baines having a good season. I wouldn't play 4-5-1 with anyone other than Rooney as the striker...Carroll and Bent aren't good enough when it comes to the quarter finals of major tournaments IMO. But I agree other than that. Walcott is one of our best two/three wingers and is ideal for a 4-3-3 because he scores more goals than the rest of them.

Charlie's going to the highest bidder, definitely. Holloway is a dick.

EDIT: about Gareth Barry. I can't believe Rafa wanted to replace Alonso with Barry .-. and that was the reason he sold him.

To be honest I think that's it's ridiculous that Nani isn't nominated, although personally I think Tevez should win it, in my eyes he's pretty much keeping Man City in the Champions League places (along with Kompany!)

As much as I dislike Man Utd, I have to say that Hernandez and Nani have been fantastic this season so I think one of them will win young player of the year (although I think that 24 is too old!)

other things of note:
- I wouldn't describe Schalke as clowns, since they topped one of the hardest groups and beat Valencia to get to where they are now in the CL anyway!
edit: - Gareth Barry is really bad, going to be honest I don't have a clue where Adam will go because I don't really know who wants him!
