1-1 series between Aussie and India so far. Sadly Tendulkar hasn't done anything so far. >: 124 to Dhoni and Gambhir got another 50. Well played India. Also, Hussey gets back to back 50s, which is a very good sign.

We're gonna need more than Hussey batting well to win this series. 350+ scored by India is mammoth. No-ones chasing that down lol

Bring back Lee!!! XD

350 isn't really that much, it only takes one person to make a quick 100 off 70 balls, like Dhoni did.

Imo, our entire team has gone extremely down hill since we lost Gilchrist, Langer, Hayden, McGrath, and Warne. To replace them, we've has Haddin, Hilfenhaus, Hauritz, Katich, and Watson is opening the batting. Haddin is nothing like Gilchrist imo. Hilfenhaus is -okay- but his just not consistant enough. Hauritz is the same. Katich is pretty good. But Watson... his shite. I don't see why his in the team, let alone opening.

Yeah thats why India has scored 350+ twice as much as Aussies have right? lol

Anyway amazing century from Dhoni. Thats what I love about this India team. You got Sehwag, Yuvraj, and Sachin out with less than a 100 on the board and you still make a 300+. Thats just unreal. When one fails the next one scores. Aussies really need Lee back. I also feel Shaun marsh should open the battling because he really impressed me in that first IPL and Watson should be dropped (at least on Indian conditions). Btw who is the replacement keeper for the Aussies? I hope its that Luke Ronchi guy. He seems like he could play a Gilly like innings while opening.

Their flying manou over.

And as for the "350 isnt that much" comment.. lolworthy but okay. Suuurreee... XD

Marsh back in Aussie colors os awesomeness to the extreme. He loves it over there. I guess with Paine injured, it'll be a Watson/Marsh opening pair. Hope it works.

Marsh/Paine opening pair would be better methinks. Watson is good but too inconsistent, nobody knows what he's going to do on any given day.

The problem with Watson is he isnt very good at opening. Both the hundreds he got in the champions trophy he got by blocking out the new ball and scoring in the middle part of the game.. If he isnt chasing a small total then he cant do that, and he will probably suck..

If I was an Aussie selector, aside from having Katich in the side, actually looking at it there really arent any good options in the current squad. So it'd have to be Hussey and Marsh.. But yeah, get Katich in there..

Have a nice day.

Hipmonlee... your forgetting two of the greatest rising stars in Aussie cricket, Warner and Hughes. Both could EASILY slot into the aussie team and open with vigor. Particularly Hughes imo.

My team would be...

Marsh
Hughes/Warner
Ponting
Clark
M.Hussey
White/Watson
Paine
Johnson
Lee
Siddle/Hauritz
Hilfenhaus/Clarke/Bracken

With Henriques, Bollinger and Haddin all floating around, this team isnt all that bad on paper right?

Yeah I was trying to just look at their current squad. I'd still have katich before warner or hughes though..

I also dont have much of a problem with paine or haddin opening.. or Clark for that matter, it's just Watson isnt equipped to be doing it, and its actually a huge testament to his grit that he has had the success he has..

Actually I quite like that team you suggested. I'd still have Katich, but on the whole it looks pretty good..

Have a nice day.

I agree with Hipmonlee here, Katich would have to be there somewhere. I personally could see him opening with either Paine or Marsh, which means there's experience at the top of the order (since having Paine/Marsh or Paine/Hughes might not be so good).

I think Watson > White as the cleanup hitter. He's also a more technical batsman, which helps if Aussie are, say 3 or 4 down for not many with time for an innings to go.

I personally don't like white either. I don't really understand his role in the team. Is he a big hitter or a long innings player? Because he looks like in the middle of both. Because it seems he plays slow and when its time to accelerate he gets out. WHich isn't really helping the Aussies, lol

I also agree that katich should open. It seems the Aussie selectors think of him as a test specialist. Which is really stupid cuz Ive seen him in the IPL and other T20 events and he is good as anyone in the ODI's.

I subconsciously overlooked the Kat for two reasons I think... 1) His style, though incredibly effective, is rather boring to watch imo and 2) He's practically retired (Despite being in the form of his life)

Im a "Have the balance of Youth + Experience" guy and Kat places too much emphasis on the latter which for mine, is unnecessary with Ponting, Huss and Clark all there to steady the batting experience-wise. XD

Yuvraj and Dhoni!!!!! <333

I feel that was Australia's best chance of a win because that pitch was really crappy in the after the first 25 overs of the match. I also felt a bit sorry for the keeper, lol. He just came in and had to keep on that pitch. If Mohali is anything like the pitch of the second ODI. Aussies look out.

It's a shame he's had to compete with Langer, Hayden and co. for so long, and he's really come into his own late in his career. He'd probably still have the test opening spot for a while, which would be good.

6 wickets, that's a hefty margin. Ponting opening seems odd, but FUCK YEAH HUSSEY. Form is coming back. 229 really isn't enough against a great batting team like India though really. =/

NOw thats the kind of aussie team I would go for as well.

Man, I disliked Pontings captainsy before... but Now I HATE him. Who the heck does he think he is leaving Marshy out of that team?!

Ponting sucks.

Get Marsh in there dammit! >:[GRRR!!!]

lol, Ponting is one of the most unfavored captains in Australian history. He has more haters (As a captain) than Taylor, Waugh and Border put together.

On a far more positive note, Australia won the series 4-2 with the last match rained out and on an even more important and happier note,

MARSH MAKES A 100 in the 5th match!!! ^^;

Legend. He just Lurves Indian conditions.

Highly subjective. Ponting has been and is still a successful Australian skipper, regardless of controversies. I doubt many professional cricketers think he's an unfavorable captain, and past that, it just comes down to opinion.

Goes to show that Marsh is a great asset to the Australian side. Hopefully he continues to prove his worth to selectors!

His results speak louder than my words... but in the end, are they his?
In my opinion, guys like Taylor, Waugh and Gilchrist would make far far more accomplished and natural leaders than a guy like Ponting. Its just unfortunate there are no-one like these guys around at the minute.

I think M.Clark would be a better and far more dynamic captain than Ponting.

I see a few things about Ponting that I dislike... One recent one was during the recent series in England, where he decided to place himself at a Silly Mid-off/Silly Point position and copped a fantastic blow to the lip.

As a captain, he should be setting a better example for the future generations of the game, and place his safety in higher regard by using a helmet if he wants to field there.

imo, he failed as an ambassador for the kids in this instance.

Don't get me wrong, he's a superstar of modern day cricket and Australia are less without him. I just don't rate him as a captain.

Ponting is a good captain but not a great one. His results make him look better than he is tbh. It will be interesting to see how he does when he doesn't have the services of Gilly, Warne, McGrath, Hayden to win him the majority of the matches. I remember the last test of the Border Gavaskar trophy in 08 where India had collapsed from a strong position. He could have brought back his quicks to finish off the tail (which would have given them a chance at a win) but instead he kept bowling his part-timers to catch up with the over-rate. Not what I call good captaincy...

The Pitches used In New Zealand are probably the best pitches for test cricket. Its got something in it for everyone. No significant advantage gained if you win the toss. For some reason out of all the 3 tests NZ vs Pak kept my interest on cricinfo.

Also India needs 1 more win to bw #1 in test cricket =D

YEEEEEEEAH

England actually looking the better team in this series so far. First time I've felt happy with our performance in a One Day series for ages. Odds on we get absolutely crushed on Friday, though.
