The Dragon Ball Live Action Film

I'm sorta hyped for this though I'm fairly sure they'll be able to screw it up. On the bright side, they've got 87Eleven who worked on 300 and Matrix apparently, but, come on, it's dragon ball. I can't possibly see dragon ball happening in "real life". What bothers me the most, however, is:

Wikipedia's entry on this movie said:
Chatwin, however, will not wear a wig as the director felt his hair already resembled Goku's.

imdb movie faq said:
Will Justin Chatwin wear a wig to play Goku?
Justin Chatwin will most likely have his natural hair due to the information from the recent set pics

THEIR HAIR IS ALMOST IDENTICAL!

I'm aware this is a bit old but I want to discuss this movie with you EVEN if it is too soon.

What the fuck? That guy's Goku? He has the sort of vacant, harmless thing going on, but he's gonna have to pound the gym, or I'm really not gonna be able to relate to him as Goku.

I'm not saying I want Goku to be some 'roid muncher with no neck, but...he needs to be at a certain level.

I'm going to go see this movie for laughs.
Amazingly, this was the first thing I thought of as a reply when I saw this thread.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have a feeling that the whole movie is just going to be a giant cosplay convention gone wrong. Anyhow, almost all of my friends were obsessed with DBZ at some point in their childhood, so I'm going to bring a few of them over for nostalgia. Chirst, all the 6-year olds and their moms are going to think we're insane.

Anyone know who the main villain is going to be (hopefully Freiza?)

I hate how effective these nostalgia films are. I know it's gonna suck, yet I will see it anyway because I used to be obsessed with dbz when I was a kid.

If anyone's powerlevel is over 9000 in this movie, I'll probably faint.

I remember reading about this possibility way back in the day, before GT even came out. They're just now deciding that they are going to?

Meh, I owe it to myself to go see it as I was one of the many DBZ fanatics. If the fights look decent, to hell with the story imo.

No. Even if I was a big DBZ fan (which i'm not), I wouldn't dare see this. Live action movies based on hit cartoons or games suck *cough Super Mario Brothers movie cough*.

King Picollo (portrayed by "spike from buffy") (i never seen buffy but apparently he's a great actor.) which is sorta cool, it's just a shame that we don't get to see any blonde spiky hair.

oh, this is old school Dragon Ball without the "Z".... eh... yeah.. I didn't like DB...

Well, nevermind then. I'll see it if it turns out to be randomly good like the Transformers movie turned out to be.

yes he is very good, plays evil well. this is shaping up to be watchable

Oh lord... :|

I doubt Dragon Ball will translate into live-action well... At all. Still will go see it for shits and giggles!

The comment about the Metroid live action: Hell yes. Omg, and if they get some really really hot chick to play Samus too. It'll be the best video-game to live-action movie EVER.

Err.. he's not even Asian >.<

And uhh, yeah that hair's not like Goku's at all, wtf.

Goku's aspect isn't even Asiatic... to be fair, he barely resembles a person (being fictional).

History has proved that live action movies are hardly good or accepted, i liked for example the first Ninja Turtles movie, but i can't think of many others that i do like.

Not to mention video game movies, these are always destined to fail (super Mario Bros., Street Fighter and so forth). That's why i don't want to see a Metroid movie; i am afraid they create a crazy story not even related to Metroids or Space pirates!.For eye candy there would be a lot of "Zero Suit Samus" scenes lol.

actually the first live action TMNT movie (made in 1990) was the highest grossing independent film of all time (at that time) iirc. it was also reviewed overwhelmingly positive. so there is hope. but dragonball invokes a lot more of the "fantasy elements," a lot of which i can't see coming together on screen in live action. oh well.

also for the record, i think a reasonably good Metroid movie could be made. but that's a discussion for anothe rtime.

I don't think even Hollywood would get away with that, video game fans would riot in the streets... or labour over to their computers to protest weakly on forums, you can pick,

I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who liked Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat (but I can't really remember what SF was about ^^;)

Mortal Kombat?, ok it was so bad that i had fun with it, but by any means it was a good movie. I liked it too but just as i like a lot of crappy movies.Street Fighter was an abomination, for real is an awful movie.

Sorry to get a bit off-topic.

aamto pointed the principal problem of the movie; to put on live action all the crazy powers and stuff from Dragon Ball while looking good on it, you have to be the man.

I would watch it though.

This is definitely one of those movies you see with all of your friends just for laughs. It's gonna be great (I hope it sucks)
