The Everything MLB Thread

I did not intend to say that the site is not cool (it totally is). I dislike the emphasis on hitting average and runs batted in (say over on base percentage + slugging, still a fairly simple measure, but very accurate in reflecting worth), so anything like prospectus is great to me.

Rangers at 5-4 after beating the Orioles twice in a row :O

If I read the standings correctly, St. Louis Cardinals are now tied for having the most wins in the Major Leagues, if all continues to go well barring anymore injuries or tragedies, it looks like the Cardinals are going to be red hot like they were over a few years ago as I would like to see names like Braden Looper and Todd Wellemeyer whom were 2 journeymen pitchers become Cy Young candidates.

more like tigers almost nohit lol

im convinced it wasnt the jays that were bad this past series, it was just oakland that was really good. Watch out for them.

With the Cardinals now at 9-3 it is making me a believer in them once again. Today they were down 5-0 after 6 innings and still managed to win the game 8-7. Go Cards!

Oh man guys I just got MLB.tv! It's so sweet, I'm watching Yanks v. Sox, Pirate v. Reds and Twins Royals at the same time right now!

tampa bay is just unlucky :( injuries on Kazmir and Garza... i just hope that they can be healthy before may... so they can kick the asses of boston, yankees, orioles and jays... or at least win the wild card
if carlos peña can be the same of the past year, that wont be just a dream...

This year has had a rather astonishing amount of parity so far. Aside the Tigers, no other team has less than 4 wins, whereas most years start off with several .300 level teams O_o

I feel embarrassed to be a Tigers fan =(
2 years ago the Cardinals (an unlikely team to make it that far) and the Tigers met in the World Series. Hopefully the Tigers won't continue to play like those last few games back then though they'll still have to face the Toronto Blue Jays which is where David Eckstein is now playing for.

Yay! Cardinals (along with the Diamondbacks) are first to make it to 10 wins.

Good news for you Tiger fans, you now have a 3 game winning streak.

Meanwhile in St. Louis, Rick Ankiel drew a walk which took 17 pitches and 11 foul balls to accomplish this awesome feat.

wow jays release frank thomas out of nowhere. I'm pretty shocked here.

So we need a DH, an RBI producer and a left handed bat...ring up barry bonds!

I am also hearing that name, lol!

You're a Jays fan, right? Is there anyone in the minors in their system that can potentially fill that role??

I keep hearing Adam Lind's name as the possible replacement on that DH spot for the Jays. However, he has a sore neck at the moment so they haven't called him up yet, or so I heard.

Sabathia and Verlander finally got wins today. The lack of Ks from Verlander is still a bit worrying though. Sabathia on the other hand fanned 11. I hope this is the start of C.C. rebounding from his slow start.

with all this "win now" attitude flying around the jays, and with JP ricciardi/gibbons knowing if they underpreform this year they are both done, they will not get rid of thomas to fill the DH from within. It just does not make ANY sense. If Ted Rogers can buy the Bills from Buffalo and bring them to Toronto, he can get Barry Bonds here. Fuck, Ted Rogers is the richest man in Canada pretty much he can do whatever he wants. Its just a matter of "Will Paul Godfrey be willing to deal with the bad PR".

He will put up some numbers in the Wins column, and he will sell tickets.

Get the barry bonds to me.

I think the Mitchell Report took its toll on some people.

Anybody give the Mariners some love? Bedard(when he gets back), King Felix, and Putz(as he gets going) in the pen plus Ichiro and Ibanez PLUS the defense? I don't really like em that much, but they look good, and I live in Portland so they're on all the time.

I am a BabyBacks fan though...

Jays fans I feel for you guys, I can't understand releasing a Hall of Famer like that. And who is gonna DH now? I heard Matt Stairs and Rod Barajas. Good luck with that.

I like the Mariners pitching staff but that offense just seems to lack somebody to drive in runs.

Aside from the Blue Jays, I think the Ms would be a team that would benefit from signing Bonds and having him DH.

Cards won last night! 6-2 over the pirates. izzy got the save. the team isn't half bad really. starting pitcher joel pinero is starting to look like his old self again which is a plus for the starting pitching. and how about skip he is doing amazing in the lead off spot. doing his job getting on base and getting some runs. our olny probelm is finding a number 4 hitter really. Glaus is fine in the number 5 spot, the fact that he hasn't hit a home run yet does'nt bother me, i mean he is doing better then rolen, right?

Where are the Cubs fans! This is DEFINITELY their year, since it's been 100 years since they won their last world series. They look really good, and they'll dominate once Alfonso Soriano returns (which looks like it should be this weekend).

It would be really interesting if Detroit turned things around and made it into the Series with Chicago. A reenactment of the 1908 World Series would be sweet!

this is the most ridiculous al east ever, I mean ffs, first place is shared by tampa bay and baltimore

yeah it won't last but come on, it's a month into the season here not opening day.

Julio Franco retired at 49 :( I was hoping that he would make 50 years. I mean, to put into perspective how amazing that is, he never hit the Mendoza Line of .200 (although he came close last year) in any season, and his lifetime average is .298. I hope he makes the hall of fame :)
