The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

I think this is a really nice list, my only comments are that I think the Bengals are a little too high (something just seems fluky about the wins over Packers and Steelers)
Don't remind me about the pack losing to Cinncinnati.
The Steelers win was just luck.
As long as the Packers beat '(expletive)Cago', I'm happy.

about time dave got banned :s

the bengals didn't beat the steelers by luck, unless you are referring to how "lucky" they are that polamalu was out

Please stop displaying your ignorance. According to your logic, Buffalo Bills have the second best defense in the league then, seeing as how they kept Drew Brees touchdownless. The point is that Jets lost by two touchdowns because their ROOKIE quarterback made mistakes. You're telling me the Patriots can't exploit him in their next game? A rookie bound to make a handful of mistakes as a starter. Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco surely had their rookie times last year.

Not to mention, the Jets -only- won by a touchdown and were against Patriots still trying to find their grove. Patriots are in no way at their best right now, and close games with some luck against Bills and Ravens showed that. Brady could get pocket awareness back, as well as Wes Welker who's been out for that Jets game as well as another.

P.S. The cherry on top is how you say "only if Patriots have an easy schedule" when first of all, the schedule is already out, you know -if- they have an easy schedule or not, and second, THEY HAVE THE SAME SCHEDULE AS THE JETS BECAUSE THEY ARE IN THE SAME DIVISION!
If you look at strength of schedule from last year, the Patriots were dead last by a lot. The Jets were near the bottom (as the rest of the AFC east was), but not as far down as the Pats were. It doesnt matter if the Patriots "arent at their best right now". I understand Brady isnt fully back to form yet, but hes still got the same weapons he had in 07 (and they even got a little better at the RB spot, and Moss is still Moss). Also, what is wrong with you? lmao... By what logic, the Jets D has been consistently good through every game this year. Its also a + that they held Brees to 0 td's, and a Saints offense to 10 points, when they were putting up 40+ a game. The Jets D is also statistically in the top 5-10 in most stats except for run D (they're still in top 15 for that). Plus, why mention "only won by a touchdown"? A W is a W, it doesnt atter how badly they beat them. The Vikings only beat the Packers by 7, but that game wasnt even close on MNF.

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Braylon Edwards has been traded to the Jets. FoxSports' Jay Glazer reports WR Chansi Stuckey, LB Jason Trusnick, and two draft picks are heading back to the Browns.
The town wasn't big enough for Edwards and LeBron James, so the Jets struck while the iron was hot. Along with Edwards' recent incident with a Cleveland nightclub performed, it was also believed that most of the leaks involving complaints about coach Eric Mangini were courtesy of Edwards. The Jets are clearly in "win-now" mode.

lol...

the browns give away one of their best receiving threats who might actually be able to take the ball downfield where they can score enough to eventually win a game. they receive stuckey and trusnick oh boy! the 2 later picks might help later in time i guess, but i guess mangini has just given up on this season.

the trouble in cleveland will never end -.-

edit: in the end, this might be good for the browns, edwards was being a bit of trouble there but this is just a huge loss to their already struggling offense in my opinion.

I don't get how one can call a game a "lucky" game if it was close. A "lucky" game is getting a crap penalty thrown at you when it didn't occur.

i dont mind the trade for the browns at all, braylon obviously needs a change of scenery. for a shitty team like the browns its better to have a couple solid players + picks rather than a petulant "star". stuckey is a solid slot reciever, trusnick is a good special teamer and 3rd (potential 2nd) and 5th round picks aren't bad at all.

Nothing you have said has been relevent at all to the claim you made that Patriots cannot beat/catch up to the Jets. You have picked random tibits that I've used to prove you wrong and attempt to justify them when you are clearly still ignorant. BTW, Patriots do not have the same weapons seeing as how Stallworth is in jail, and Welker isn't even healthy, nor do they have the legendary offensive line of that year. But continue on with your stupidity, it's fine.

My favorite reply, ive come to say it again, Well said.

Personally I think this benefits the Browns. Yes Edwards might be talented, but so is Randy Moss, and remember what happened in Oakland? Team chemistry is more important than sheer talent. Hopefully Edwards will make something out of his career in another city, and the Brownies will pick up some nice talent in the draft that actually listens to their coach.

I am not a fan of the Steelers, and I will never be, but I am now definetly
NOT a Bengals fan. (due to them beating the Packers.)
Even so, how can the "best" defense in the NFL (even without Polamalu) lose to one of the most unlikely teams to win at all?:naughty:
Maybe they had an "off day" as Dave said.

alright there buddy.... You claim I had some logic that the Bills are a top D because they also held Brees to 0 td's, but I provided stats that backup how good the Jets D actually is this year. I havent seen you back up anything as to how the Pats can actually catch the Jets in that division. All ive seen are excuses as to why the Pats arent that good this year. You still have the best receiver maybe in the history of the game, who got shut down by Reevis then had a bs excuse and said anybody could play corner. I guess they gotta throw Terry Schiavo a jersey since anybody can play corner right? Reevis also shut down another top 3 receiver in Andre Johnson... Colston too if you think about it, but yeh keep thinking the Patriots are some superior team that everybody should fear

Trusnik is from my school dawg, don't hate. Anyway, Chansey isn't bad and they should be familiar with Mangini's coaching style, being Jets players. To save myself time, "what Loki said."

is there really a player named chansey?

OK, I am a huge pats fan, but how the FUCK did Suggs get called for that bullshit?

I understand Brady being wary about people around his knees (On another play he still has the ball and someone is around his knee's and he puts his hand out to make sure he doesn't get wrecked.) But that call shouldn't have been made. Just let them play and make sure they don't lunge at the knees.

If you look at the stats, they didn't have an "off day" at all, really. The Steelers defense held the Bengals to under 100 total yards rushing and under 200 total yards passing, which is under 300 yards of total offense (an excellent defensive stat). Remember, the Bengals scored one of their TDs on an interception return, which has nothing to do with the Steelers defense. The Bengals offense didn't really do much until late in the game, and it was only just enough to win. The Steelers losing that game can partly be blamed on the defense for not finishing well, but their offense struggled finding the end zone all day when it got close. If Pittsburgh had capitalized on their many trips to the red zone with more touchdowns and Ben had not thrown that costly pick-6, the Bengals wouldn't have even been close to winning.

I think alot of what is happening is due to all the offenses from last year making adjustments to combat the tandem of Harrison and Woodley. When you make a big impression like they did, teams pay attention to you and figure out ways to counteract it. Some of their success last year was due to them being a surprise. Now that they're not a surprise anymore, it's much more difficult to replicate such a dominating performance. If they can figure out a way to get pressure on opposing QBs again, the Steelers won't have any problem rolling through games.

This is why you are retarded. They are FOUR WEEKS INTO THE SEASON AND HAVE A TIED RECORD. CATCH UP TO WHAT? WHAT ARE THE PATRIOTS CATCHING UP TO????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Hey OG, what signs have you seen that would suggest the Pats are falling? They're getting better and better each week it seems. Brady is getting his rhythm back, the running game is decent and the defense is stepping up at the right moments. Did the offense stall against the Jets? Yes they did but so has every other offense that has played the Jets so far (New Orleans could only muster 10 points AT HOME, Houston couldn't score a single point offensively... AT HOME) As long as Tom Brady is QBing for the Pats, they'll always be a Super Bowl contender. I'm no Patriots fan but I don't try to fool myself into thinking that one of the best teams in the decade with most of their core players is going to magically falter. Especially when that team is 3-1 >_>

Especially if he keeps getting pampered by referees every time someone gets close to him. His pleas for flags remind me of 5 year old siblings going "Mooooooooooooom he's touching meeeeeeeeeeee!"

Fuckin pansy ass, I hate that he's so good -_-

Im not saying they're failing, but I know they wont finish at the top of the division this year. This Jets D has looked scary, and look who they get back this week.... Calvin Pace and Sheppard. I'll just make a bet then. Jets finish 1st and Pats finish 2nd. If I win I can change Mops title or sig for a month (his choice) and if im wrong he can change my title/sig to w/e he wants for a month
