That's overall. In the last 5 years the winner of the coin flip won 68% of the time, and 39% on the first possession. In the first 5 years after the system was implemented in 1974, the winner of the coin flip won the game 49.58% of the time, and the game was won on the first possession 27%.

Still, I don't think a team that has to defend first can use that as an excuse for losing. Defense is still a part of football, whether or not offense has opened up in recent years. You have to be able to play defense. If you don't do that and lose the game, you can't blame anyone but yourselves.

Why would you look all of that up?

Like I said....

Panthers for superbowl.

I watched NFL Live on Showtime last night and they actually had a debate about this... Phil Simms was one, and I forget who the other guy was. Anyway, they said this season, there were 16 OT games. Pretty sure they said the team winning the coin flip won won in 11 of those games (about 70% of the time)... yeah, that sounds right, because they said that this season, the team winning the coin flip went 11-4-1..., and 8 teams winning the coin flip won on the opening drive (50%).

Tennessee over Baltimore
Pittsburgh over San Diego

Carolina over Arizona
Philadelphia over New York

what i'd like....

ravens over titans
steelers over chargers
(i just really really really want an opportunity for ravens to like lynch hines ward)

and....

carolina over arizona, although i dont mind if the reverse happens for comedy sake
and eagles over giants

man imagine if the nfc championship was eagles vs cardinals lol

respectable 3-1 last week, as for this week:

Steelers over Chargers
Titans over Ravens
Eagles over Giants
Panthers over Cardinals

Good luck lynching Hines Ward.../sigh
The Ravens tried that last time they played...

I'm getting a little sick of people trying to get the guy. He's a damn good player, and a fearless, physical blocker who will go against guys way bigger than him.

Trying to get hits on him like people have been doing is cowardly and unsportsmanlike.

they are just jealous

because hines ward is one of the best football players out there

not deep threat, not reciever (anymore), just...football player

Titans over Ravens
Panthers over Cardinals
Giants over Eagles
Steelers over Chargers

Baltimore Ravens win....

The officiating at the end of the game....The refs missed the delay of game call, that could have changed the outcome. Eh, I didn't really care who won that game but I hate it when the refs miss a call like that. (This is in no way saying that Baltimore shouldn't have won, the titans had so many missed opportunities)

I believe I called the Ravens as well, but it was more of a "Man, I'd really like to see the Ravens knock of the Titans" pick, instead of a confidence one.

That was an awesome game though. Terrible miss on the delay of game. The Ravens haven't had a week off since Week 2.. so the fact that they're still going is amazing.

If they win/go to the Superbowl... last season it was the we-didn't-rest-our-starters-in-Week-17 Giants and this season it'll instead be the we-didn't-rest-our-starters-after-Week-2 Ravens.

Cards? CARDS?! No way did I expect them in the NFC Championship Game. No way whatsoever. And it's incredible how the top two seeds in each conference find it difficult to take down the momentum of a team without the elusive bye. Plus, ARZ is proving everyone wrong on how the West have the worst teams in the league. Maybe they do, but the Cards just dominated the NFC South representatives, not an easy task. In other news, my boy MATT WARE is going to his second NFC Championship game!!!

And a good overall win for the Ravens, who continue to prove that Defense + No Turnovers are keys to winning in the playoffs. I'm starting to like Ray Lewis and the gang more and more every week. All hail to the bird teams if the Eagles win tomorrow.

Seriously, ARZ in the championship game???

lol that's two weeks in a row the Cards have spoiled my record. Watch, next week if I actually pick them to win, they'll lose. Hopefully my other two picks will win tomorrow to put me at 3-1 for the weekend.

I'm 3-3 overall right now, but if you break it down by conference I'm 3-0 in afc games and 0-3 in nfc lol.
