ALA YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT MORTY'S TODAY

ahhhhhhhhhh

Goddamn I probably lost 5 years of my life during this game. My heart hurts.

Crawford was some sort of demi-god jesus. That shot by Kesler disa-fucking-peared.

chaos' reaction to the Flyers win.

FUCK

classless blackhawks team doesn't have enough class to just lay down and die after going down 3-0, what a bunch of classless goons

NO CLASS

Lol way to go Campoli. Feel bad for Crawford. I doubt Vancouver has what it takes to beat Detroit but that should be a great series which will probably happen.

Why are you writing my Sharks off already? Didn't everyone do that last year when the Wings were playing much better then they are currently?

I dunno if the Wings played better last year; last year it took them 7 games to knock out the Coyotes, this year they swept them. I agree though, the Sharks shouldn't be counted out, they proved last year that they can go far.

Tonight should be an amazing game, the Canadiens have shown that they aren't going down without a fight, and while I'm still leaning towards the Bruins taking it I have faith that the Canadiens can prove me wrong. Thank goodness the no-goal didn't fuck us over though, I would have been so pissed. Finally congrats to the Canucks for avoiding a total collapse, good to know that I'll still have a Canadian team to cheer for if Montreal loses tonight (which they hopefully won't).

Are you watching the same games I am(or any games at all...)?

The Sharks are probably my favorite in the West right now, though. I think the series with Detroit could go either way, but I like how they match up with Vancouver and Nashville a lot better than Detroit does because of their combination of size and skill -- Nashville would have an easier time grinding out a Detroit series than one against a bigger San Jose team, and I think similar Vancouver would have a harder time against San Jose because they can bang Vancouver around some -- something that was awfully effective against them in the games Chicago won -- while still controlling the puck as well as Vancouver or Detroit does. I think against both Vancouver and Nashville teams are going to have to do a decent bit of the whole cliche traffic in front shots from point to beat the goalies, and with Weber and Suter and a bunch of underpaid grinders who love fighting in the crease on Nashville's side I think they'll make this round more interesting than people might have expected.

I wasn't particularly bothered by anything that SJ did in the LA series either; it was a physical series against a team many people predicted to go deep in the playoffs prior to the Kopitar injury that they won 4-2. Obviously you can't go down 4-0 and expect to win consistently, but they lost a game they outshot the Kings by like 20 or 30 shots too...

Likely a Canucks/Sharks WCF, I think. Though still not counting out my home team Wings, obviously.

It must be hard having a team you can't count on to win the second round, Synre. Our collective sympathies!
Fucking red wings, I think everyone but wings fans are sick of their constant betterness

And it's attitudes like that one that make me highly skeptical this Vancouver core will ever win the cup. All the talent in the world but when your leaders are Henrik Sedin and Roberto Luongo I just don't know how it's going to get done... I guess pest Burrows will have to carry them?

HURRAY!!! IT'S THE WINGS VS REFS from SAN JOSE SAN JOSE SHARKS!!!
yeah i'm so excited not.

When was the last time a team faced the same opponents in the quarterfinals and semifinals back to back years?
I seriously hope Nashville grinds Vancouver to dust. They don't deserve to be in the semis. I like Detroit's chances this year vs San Jose better over last year.

Can't wait for game sevens tonight. Eastern Conference has been more interesting than i thought it'd be.

Vancouver will have some issues with nashville, I'm certain of it, unless they can keep up that pace from games 1-3 and 7. Detroit has no right to cry about reffing. If there is one team other than the penguins that gets the most good calls it has to be Detroit.

man DGB is always good but this one is amazing, thanks for the link

Pumped for a Game 7 I can just enjoy without too much of a rooting interest in Habs/Bruins, though I'm vaguely rooting for the Habs to give the Caps a shot at redemption. Not that I'm necessarily confident they'll get it... but much like the Detroit/San Jose series on the other side I'd like it if my other favorite team at least got a second chance to inevitably blow. Rooting Lightning hard though... dear god please no more Pens ;_; I'm kind of setting myself up for a sweep rooting for all 4 of the low seeds in the game 7s here (man the Hawks loss was depressing... especially when you consider basically the entire Michigan bar psycho/dangeldini and I were at seemed to be rooting for the Hawks), but gotta get lucky eventually, right...?

I hope these Game 7s continue though, 1/4 of the series ending in 7 games in round one is a hell of a start.

Don't hate the player (in this case: Ken Holland and the Red Wings organization), hate the game (in this case: Hockey General Management at the NHL level).

Sharks/Wings should be a tough series for both teams. The coaches are familiar with each other and each team's players from past experiences.. look for Babcock and McLellan to have some coaching chess matches as they attempt to counter one another from game to game.

In terms of forwards, I'm biased and think Detroit has the better overall depth top to bottom but will concede that San Jose's blend of skill and size from their big guns is worrisome. Their top six is just as talented as Detroit's but larger which has the potential to cause issues.

If we get the Kronwall from the opening round to play against the Sharks, I think the d-core is better for the Wings, too. There's a ton of experience on that blueline and Nick Lidstrom is still the best in the game. That said, San Jose's defense isn't anything to scoff at. Sharks have some talented offensive players on their back end and their own human wrecking ball in Douglas Murray.

Overall, I'd say the skaters are pretty much a wash and neither team will be able to coast on talent alone.

The real defining point to this series, in my mind, is in goal. Yes, I'll say it: Niemi is terrible. OK, not terrible, but definitely no Pekka Rinne or Ryan Miller. I'll probably have to eat my words now that I've said this but I can't imagine Niemi stealing any games this series. He'll be serviceable, but also beatable. Meanwhile, Jimmy Howard isn't the next Martin Brodeur, either, but he did a pretty good job out-dueling Ilya Bryzgalov in round 1. A lot of playoff series are determined by who gets the better netminding and this Wings/Sharks series is no different. I think Detroit holds a decent edge here, one that could ultimately tip the scales should this go 6 or 7 (which I think it will). Jimmy Howard was inconsistent this regular season, but seemed very sharp against Phoenix. I can't necessarily say the same for Niemi, who got yanked in game 5 against an LA team without their star center. His numbers were good against Detroit last year and this year but that's the regular season. Detroit has a 7 game series to try to exploit his tendencies and capitalize on his bad rebounds. On the other hand, Jimmy Howard didn't fare too well against this year's Sharks team so that trend could continue in the postseason. If his regular season inconsistencies pop up again, it could be a quick exit. Definitely the most compelling and uncertain story of this round 2 battle will be in net.

Series hinges on whichever team wants it more and ends up getting the better goaltending. I think it'll be Detroit but San Jose has a different vibe this season.. Jumbo Joe with 2 game winners already, one of which in OT?

I don't understand what's so odd about the comment he made. I find it more odd that the writer tries to make it look like a cheap shot towards the Hawks. Sedin was just saying that his team wasn't playing as good as they are capable of and that if they played like they should have then the Hawks wouldn't have been in a game 7. He didn't say the Hawks weren't good enough. He didn't call out specific teammates. He was including himself as a part of the team.

Ference's hits Halpern in the head when the puck was nowhere near them, not even called and Boston takes the lead just a few minutes later while Halpern is getting checked for a possible concussion. If Boston wins and Ference gets no punishment I will be so pissed.

EDIT: And on top of that apparently shortly before that goal Ryder brought the puck down with a high stick, or at least very close to one. Admittedly the Bruins have been outplaying the Canadiens and probably deserve to win, but still, it's frustrating to come so far only for this to happen, especially combined with the no goal on Gionta in game 6, though mercifully that didn't matter.

Umm...no. Everytime I watch the replay it looks like a photograph of Ference with a moving background. He is 100% not moving at all. Maybe Halpern should look where he is skating and not flop like a girl trying to draw a penalty. Why would somebody get a penalty for keeping their own ice. If anything it should've been a penalty on Halpern for interference or diving. The difference was that Ference was a brick wall.

I take back my comment until I can see the hit again (I thought the same thing at first but it looked like Ference leaned into him when a replay showed and Halpern was looking awfully woozy, which is when I made the first post). Regardless, the no call on the high stick screwed us over. Sigh, I'm not a huge fan of the Flyers but I hope that they knock out the Bruins for us.
