Found this when I was going through some of my old photo albums earlier. It's dated early 2006 back when I actually used to play football (knee injury put an end to that loooong ago) but it's still decent enough I guess. Get stressed towards the end though, bastard football.

I don't know whether to be annoyed or pleased with Michael Owen's initial success at Man Utd. I caught one of his goals t'other day (dunno which one, Berbatov played a nice little flick, Owen chested it and then volleyed it) and he's looking really sharp again!

It's not as if Owen showed any disrespect towards Newcastle. You can't blame Owen (whose contract had ran out anyway) to sign a new deal when Newcastle fell into the Championship.

I've seen the goal though, and it was brilliant.

It's not that he left, it's that he played absolutely rubbish for us for a few seasons and then as soon as he leaves he starts playing good football again. What's that about? Did he just not care whilst at Newcastle? I'd rather believe that he just wasn't getting the same quality of service that he's getting now but I still can't help but find myself a little miffed. >:(

Barcelona were lucky to win the Champions League last year when they were moments away from knockout at Stamford Bridge. They were unable to effectively execute their strategy because Chelsea's monstrous defensive play that shut them down; essentially Barcelona were immobalized. The style of play is intruiging on the eye, exciting to watch and perhaps the way the game should be played; however, when you're up against 10 men (who are all defending), you need to alternate your approach to the game. But Barcelona only play one way; they just don't hoof the ball from the goalkeeper to the striker. Now, with Zlatan, that's possible. They have acquired a new dimension of play in their team.

I think not only are they on the verge of signing a world class forward, but an asset that considers the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool in the latter stages of the CL.

Both Inter and Barcelona will benefit from this.

That's true, and regarding his pace, there are other fast threats like Henry, Iniesta and Messi already. With the aerial threat of Ibrahimovic, the rest of the forward line can cause more trouble with the defense since the defense will be struggling to deal with all of them. His finishing is more clinical than Eto'o though, maybe he's not as consistent (chokes in the CL) but he still rakes in goals. Nothing can be said yet until he actually plays or till halfway through the season though.

Barcelona don't need a "complete" forward since they are not Striker/Centre Forward dependant. They play as a team, and all that is needed is a striker with clinical finishing and aerial threat, which Ibra provides. As far as a "complete" forward is concerned, I think Torres is still the best out there, but too bad Liverpool will never sell him, and he'll never leave anyway.

well, i never really cared enough to post in this thread but now that i found out the sounders are last on the list for the MLS fair play award i am suddenly enjoying my losing team more and more haha

You said it yourself: the quality surrounding him is far superior at Manchester United. ^_~

I wonder how many Liverpool fans got one of the new shirts with Alonso on the back :cloud:

R.I.P.

Sir Bobby Robson, top man, legendary, great manager, amazing person. Will be missed by everyone who knew of him, not just the football world.

Wants to join Real Madrid (LiverpoolEcho said he's handed written transfer request), Liverpool supposedly holding out for over £30m. Basically, he'll go if he kicks up enough of a fuss or if Madrid stump up a lot.

Also RIP Sir Bobby. Always struck me as a nice guy and certainly Newcastle really shouldn't have sacked him so trivially. I wasn't fully aware of his achievements, I knew he coached Barca and England but I didn't realise he signed Ronaldo and won the league with PSV. Can't remember any English manager matching that at all. Fighting cancer 5 times is really a sign of a brave person (as is his work for cancer charities)

LA galaxy vs ac milan, great game

ronaldinho showed off cause americans like it and at the same time still played well tactically

it was funny how beckham was booed lol

without him though, the score would have been 2-0 instead of 2-2

Apparently, Alonso will join Real Madrid on Monday for £28million.

Don't hold your breath on signing David Villa with that money though, Liverpool fans.

I wonder if Mascherano will follow his team mate to Spain and go with Barcelona... If so, who can Liverpool realistically sign in time to even come close to replacing them?

If Liverpool are dragging this trasnfer on and know it's going to happen eventually, they might as well get it over with so they can spend the money on replacing them. Let's face it, if both go, Lucas as basically their only defensive midfielder left is not good enough lol.

I still think Torres will have a ridiculous season regardless though, and probably get about 25 League Goals.

Deja Vu all over with Real Madrid.
Liverpool will do everything in their power to keep Masch, he's a key part of the team.

talk over david silva to join united this summer for a reported £30. its not the first time this has creeped up before and because we play valencia in a pre-season friendly at ot, we have them there to discuss the possibilities of signing the spaniard.

Silva definitely wouldn't get you the goals Ronaldo did. Come to think of it, probably noone else in the world could.

I think that's quite obvious, you can't replace Ronaldo's goals from midfield with any other player, you have to buy a proven striker. Owen probably won't match Ronaldo's goal scoring of recent seasons, but he'll still score a fair few. It just means that Rooney, Berbatov, and the rest of the midfield have to chip in a little more.

If you look at United's team of regular players (mainly the midfield), you'll notice that for the number of games certain players play, they should be scoring more goals. Namely Park, Nani, Carrick, Anderson etc. Fletcher can be forgiven since he's primarily defensive, though he did score 4 goals last season. However, I'd expect the players mentioned (Park, Nani, Carrick, Anderson) to score close to 10+ goals a season if they get a fair amount of games. While the likes of Valencia who may play most games could be expected to get around that amount. Then honestly, if Owen, Rooney, and Berbatov want to prove themselves, over 20 goals each is a given.

Vidic chips in well usually, but Ferdinand is a player who should score more goals for the amount of corners he'll go up for. Our other defenders generally score the odd important goal though. We'll also be looking at big things from Tosic, Obertan, Macheda and Welbeck in the coming seasons. Giggs and Scholes don't score like they used to, but I still think it's fair to expect almost 5 goals each from the games they get.

We'll need everyone on song to keep the goals tally up really.

Ronaldo was ridiculous and no single player can replace him. To even come close, I would've said we'd have needed to sign Ribéry, Benzema, and another player if we wanted to replace the flair, trickery, goals, free kicks, penalties, pace, aerial prowness, and foul winning ability Ronaldo possesses.

You probably meant this but you forgot to mention that all of ManU's players will get more opportunities to shine too...it's rather easy to believe they'll replicate their success from last year. If you're a ManU fan I wouldn't be worried.

Nani and Anderson have yet to convince me that they are capable of playing for Manchester United to be honest. Both have been far too inconsistent for a club of your stature and either they're going to fulfill their potential or they aren't and if they are they'd better start soon. Park I rate very highly and I believe that he needs alot more game time.

I'd be satisfied if Owen, Rooney and Berbatov scored 10 each with random goals from the rest of the team.

What are you talking about?

Anderson is absolutely fantastic. Sir Alex sings his praises week in, week out -- and there's good reason for it. He's only 21-years-old and is developing year-by-year. Lack of goals? He's been converted into more of a defensive midfielder than attacking. He does make the odd burst forward, but ultimately I think Fergie sees a beast of a defensive midfielder.

Park needs more game time? He practically made the left/right side of midfield his last year. He kept Nani out of the squad. He runs around but is far from an offensive threat -- Nani will get you more goals.

Speaking of which, I think Nani is a diomand in the rough. He doesn't get the game time he deserves -- he plays one game, and then he's out of for two. He can't develop properly because Sir Alex fannys around with the team too often, and when Nani is given the chance he tries way too hard to impress as an individual when he should be playing for the team. This is as clear as day.

Players who aren't good enough for Manchester United? Look at the likes of Fletcher, Scholes, O'Shea and Giggs. No direspect to any of these as individuals, but they're either past their best or are simply not good enough for Manchester United.
