Want to see your Original sprites on the X-Box Live Arcade?

Here's the thing about that. My school's internet does not allow me to get onto Smogon, so that when I do happen to draw something, I have to go with what I have in my head. Also, I just did not realize that sticking to the lists were that big of a deal, since as of yet I have been able to do such art as the Water Ocelot. Note: This is not a negative post, and I am not insulting your team in any way as I write this. Just stating my reasoning behind this.

EDIT: And by nothing, you apparently have not noticed the fact that I mentioned the Water Ospray in there as well? +)

Anyways, here's some art. Note: These pictures were taken using my new iPhone 4!!!

Ospray Adult (Note: That is a giant rip in the page, not part of the art.)

Earth Roc is below, if'n you'd like to see it.
This critter actually has a bit of story behind it's lifecycle. The baby starts off life by claiming the bones of its deceased parents, who died giving birth to it, thus giving it a more menacing appearance. As it's body develops, it soon gets to the point where it no longer needs the protection of the bones and then discards them to reveal itself.

If you have any second thoughts about the critter, just tell me. +)
Also, would these poses be alright for spriting purposes? I would like to know before I pull another Atomic Wasp/Firefly...

Also, I call the Fire Lobster/Crawfish or whatever it is. I have been wanting to do one of those. +)

Ok, to start...

I have made the list thing pretty clear in the past, I am sorry if you did not catch that. I have been lenient with you because at least you were working but @ this point you need to start paying closer attention or we will have to just start rejecting sprites & I don't want to do that because I know how much time you put into them.

As for the angle on the sketches.... The baby ospray is a bit to one sided. It needs to be rotated a bit so that it more resembles the angles of most pokemon sprites. I will find one that is similar.

A good pose for the baby may look something like:

While we are talking about the ospray I think a good pose for the adult may look similar to this:

Glad you like the outline and coloring!

Now.... Enter, the (hopefully) final solar peacock! :D lol

Really bad pillow shading on its neck. I can't explain exactly, but there's a weird line down it. Most sprites don't look like that.

The outline is also extremely shaky. The tail should be rather smooth and round, not all.. jagged, I guess I should say.

Also: Ice Yetis.

Here's a Blue-footed booby WIP. I took some creative liberties on the colours to suit its elemental type, tell me if you want a different colour scheme.

Here's an alterantive colour scheme, I'd like to know which one is better.

@Doran and Studio-Finished the adult. For real, no more edits, no nothing.

If I didn't fix the pillow shading, Doran, you are free to edit.

@BynineB- Personally, the concepts are somewhat lackluster, and on the adult,, there is too much black outlining, but Studio might like it. :p

EDIT: Energy Storm, I LOVE the concept! :D Keep at it, and it'll be an AWESOME sprite! lol

Funny thing is, if you look at the foot, which is little blue triangle behind the left wing (our right), the colour seems to change between the two versions. But it's the exact same colour! Only the other colors have changed, they seem to be influencing it. Eye tricks :D.

Are their tongues sticking out?

I think the adult is a bit too stiff with both his arms up like that and how he is standing fully erect. It just doesn't look very natural...

The juvenile... I think it would be better if it looked like a baby ape instead of just a puffy ball with feet...

Also Albinoloon is right, there is way too much black outlining.

I think for an ice creature that the bottom one is better. I love the design!

It looks alot better! Doran if you think you can tweak a few things then feel free.

I finished the baby, tell me what you think! :D

Might be fixable shading problems, but other than that, I feel pretty confident about it! :D

I think it looks pretty good! Some issues obviously but I think if doran is going to mess with the shading on the adult then I will just ask him to do the same for this guy so it is uniform. Thanks!

Holy S***, I made a sprite. Gawd, I forgot what this sense of accomplishment was like.

Anyways, Earth Bull Adult. Enjoy.
thEABullAdult-1.png

@E.Storm: Darn, that looks very nice. I have only a few complaints about the straightness of some of the outlines (Wing, beak, tail could be less straight), but aside from that, the shading is excellent, and the texture is also awesome. Good job, soldier.

I really like this concept dude. Its clearly a bull but it has a very alien quality to it. I just have one question really... is there a reason behind him having two hooves and two feet?

He has two back feet for stability purposes. They allow him to clutch the ground more easily to avoid plummeting to his doom in it's native environments. Yes, i think way too much about this stuff. +)

I like the thought behind it actually so no worries! I was thinking though... the feet actually look (in my opinion) alot better then the hooves look on this sprite. Would you consider making the front feet feet instead of hooves?

Hey, a new face is barging in! It´s a little late on my side of the world, so I´m just asking for now:

1. I haven´t seen a Solar Fox around here. Is it still needed? Cause I have an idea about that...
2. I also have a Solar Caterpillar done(concept) that evolves into a Solar Butterfly. Is something like that legit in the game or not?

To my knowledge, a Solar Fox is still part if the "to-do" list. As for the solar butterfly, that would be OK as long as it is on the concept list found on Page 1.

Here's some poses.

Water Osprey (Infant)

Water Osprey (Adult, Pose A)

Water Osprey (Adult, Pose B)

Do these suit your tastes? If so, which Osprey do you prefer, since I am on the fence as to whether or not I should keep the original's pose or use the new one. I'll probably use the second one's patterning on the wings, however.

Slainte!

aXl, I don't mind double posts and it is easier for me and everyone else if you post this kind of stuff here. I just like to keep everything in one place and it being here allows me to get feedback from others as well. No big deal just letting you know for the future.

As for the sketches:

>>JUVENILE! I like this pose but to me the head looks kind of detached from the body... it just does not seem to fit super well.

>>ADULTS! I think that pose 'B' is the better of the two. I would want the tail to be condensed in the sprite though so that the final sprite does not have to be pretty tiny to fit it all in the frame. I would want the body to encompass most of the frame and have the tail fit in there like it can. Also I like the beak on pose 'A' better I think.

Looks good though!

Yeah the solar fox is fair game! Go for it!

Also I talked with my project manager and they agreed that we could possibly be flexible on a concept in the solar category. Please feel free to post your sprites and I will take a look @ them.

I'm sorry, with school in session, i find myself not spriting more and more. I hope to get back to helping you guys as soon as artblock and my sudden lack of self confidence in my spriting ends! ^_^

I have the little Solar fox ready! I´ll post it here as PNG and send the .psd to you as soon as you approve of it. Is that how it works?
solarfoxkopie.png

The adult version comes later this day or tomorrow(I´m a little busy with my driving licence, you know)

As for the concept behind it: in japanese drawings/legends, foxes are often depicted as naughty/sly with these slit eyes. I thought it might be a nice idea.

EDIT:
Finally, the adult is ready, too:
