Who won E3?

Fanboyism aside, I can't say Nintendo won E3. Smash Bros and Mario Kart looked great, but Super Mario 3D World and DKCR are not games that would make me want to buy a Wii U. Aside from Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, there was a serious lack of third-party games, and there were no surprise announcements except for DKCR (which ended up being a bit of a disappointment for those of us expecting a more "serious" game).

If Nintendo had held off some of their Direct announcements for E3, they would have won hands-down. That's to say, I love their new business style of releasing information in intervals, but I can't say that they had the most interesting/appealing conference this week.

Personally, I'd probably buy a Wii U if Mario Kart and Smash Bros. were the only games released on it.

Plus all the new Pokemon stuff! Woo #nintendofanboy

While Nintendo confirmed that it can indeed deliver some quality content, I doubt it's enough to convince the PS3/Xbox360-brigades. Regrettably, the console war is eventually gonna strand in another Sony vs. Microsoft debate, and in that aspect, Sony did infinitely better. So yeah, the E3-winner (and victor of this gen's console wars, so far) is undoubtedly Sony.

Sony won in the sense that Microsoft utterly failed, but I have to admit I'm way more interested in what Nintendo is peddling.

You do know the Wii crushed last gen, right?

I wouldn't say crushed since last gen was the most evenly-matched console generation ever, but yeah, it's pretty naive to assume Nintendo can't succeed even if their hardware isn't as good as the competition's.

Crushed as in a cheap underpowered, gimmicky console with minimal 3rd party support and not even having basic features like HD and a streamline online multiplayer, outselling both the "hardcore" consoles put together 3 times over.

Yeah, I'd call it being crushed. While circlejerking over the latest HALO, COD, Gt game we tend to forget that.

The Wii has sold at least 99 million units. 360 has sold at least 77 million, PS3 has sold at least 70 million. Where exactly did you get your statistics?

Yeah he definitely exaggerated somewhat... it still outsold its competitors by a significant margin though.

And of course the DS whalloped all three.

Yes, because they largely cater to younger and older audiences, with the whole Wii Sports/Play/Fit/etc range. Regarding quality content: there was a lot on the Wii. Whether it matches with PS3/Xbox360? I don't know.

The top sellers on the 360 and ps3 were COD, Just Dance, and Sports crap.

So which console had all the casuals again?

i hate how wii sports holds the record as top selling video game of all time. shouldn't fucking count at all, give it back to super mario bros

idk if this has been posted yet

BA HA HA HA HA HA!

Microsoft Fail.

Voted for Sony because they had the most to gain and they took advantage of it.

I don't know if I'll buy a Wii U because most of the epic games were for 3DS, which I already have.

I didn't watch the full conferences but is the reason that sony won really just that the PS4 has "features" that pretty much every console has had for ages

that's kinda sad

It's probably more because Sony actually addressed a really big problem about the Xbone that could've possibly applied to the PS4 as well head-on, unlike Microsoft who just decided to ignore the elephant in the room.

I think Reggie's comment after E3 relating to the console wars between Sony and Microsoft is pretty amazing.

"We have been able to step back and say that we are not taking any technological means to impact trade-in and we are confident that if we build great content, then the consumer will not want to trade in our games."

Essentially, we make good games that people don't want to give up. So suck our balls.

As much as we all love Nintendo (yes, all) and it's constant pumping of good games (Year of Luigi? More like year of Awesomweegi), Sony's public execution of MS was just too good.

The polls show it.

You do know the Wii crushed last gen, right?

Crushed as in utterly bombed during the latter half of its life cycle? Sure its hardware sales were through the roof that first half. But you know what everyone did with it after they got it?

They let is collect dust. You know why?

No games.

Google "Unique User install Base", i.e people who bought one system and not multiple units over the years

Before you ask why
RROD and YLOD

That and the fact the microsoft just loved reporting replacement unit as 'sales', (since you had to technically pay for various reasons)

So I'd say you're looking at ~25-30mil bust numbers of recycled consoles over the years till at least 2009 for both systems, when MS finally solved the problem with a new board, and when Sony solved it with the 'slim' models at around 2010.Not to say the replacement drama continued as late as 2011 with my people with older versions calling for a replacement/buying a new console.

But yeah, there was error on my end. I was supposed to write "almost 2 times over"
