We here at Ursaraing Inc. decided that it would be a worthwhile endeavor to create eulogies for teams that unfortunately drowned in pools, direct any and all complaints to Raining Inside

US East may be known to be the most unlikable 1v1 World Cup team, but they're also known for getting somewhat carried in world cup by a slew of random circumstances - In World Cup 2 they got an act win in a 1-1 tiebreaker, and in World Cup 3 they farmed very easy pools in Round 1 and in semis beating CONE after the former East host tourbanned their solid DPP player and kingdra lover, Cabbbages. Not to mention the infamous post by Uselesscrab that will go down in 1v1 history. However despite critiques of the team, back to back finals is nothing to scoff at. Maybe this year they could finally step up and get the ring. But a few months ago, speculation on the east team had two major problems. DC3 didn't want to play world cup, pre seasonal 2nd place Sice lived in Canada, and LuckyPiper had beef with 1v1 East MAINSTAY Yami, leaving the SS to look absolutely awful. Additionally, TDA, the permabanner himself, only seemed to want to play SM, leaving their ORAS slot to either be a gohar ghosting slot and/or extremely crusty individual who probably hasn't played since 2016 seriously. Finally, East seemed to have infinite SM slots with almost no slots for really any other gen. If it was 8 slots of SM, this team could get to finals again easily.

However, things started looking up for the team when SiceXV got 2nd in a seasonal and revealed east eligibility. He chose east over cone, for reasons that stay unknown and definitely unrelated to the viability of both teams. LuckyPiper settled their beef with Yami and Dc3 decided they would play. Additionally, Sustenence_1 had an amazing PL run in SM, and would surely be a solid starter for east. Their SS was REFORMED and they were locked and loaded. However, ORAS and BW still honestly looked pretty sus. After some recruitment by multiple users, the NFE untiers lord himself ArcticBreezeX entered the ORAS arena with seemingly minimal support. For BW, power filled the slot, who hadn't seemed to play 1v1 in a year. With a strong SM and decent SS, things looked fine for east if they managed to grab wins in their weaker slots.

Sust started off winning an SM game against 2020 felucia, good for him, but from there east did pretty mediocre. They only got one 3-0, sustenance, but the old gens proved to be a massive issue. SiceXV and Sustenence stacked some wins from here, and got the team to be 6-4 early on in the tour. From there, though, East went on a 6 team losing streak, with some honestly questionable ORAS games, in particular.

Their ORAS/BW/DPP went a combined 2-6 and their SS 4-5. Their SM went 4-2 which was not enough to save the other tiers. East's old gens seemed to not really have any player overlap - if you don't have any rock solid specialists, it's way better if you have "good" old gens players to quality check teams across multiple gens, bounce ideas around, and update people like Power who were inactive in the BW meta for a year. Yami did Yami things, got subbed out and then argued with CBB about activity nonsense. This team might have had chemistry but overall lacked depth in every gen but SM, which only did fine. Additionally, it seemed that a lot of players were inactive and didn't really care. Sure they might have played their games, but 1v1 is filled with tryhards who will take 2 weeks to counterstyle you in a meme tier. Two 0-3s and only one 3-0 is never a good thing, and teams really have to power through something like this to make playoffs, which east did not. Finally... east was bad again.

Going into the tour, west just seemed to keep getting better and better. When it was mid PL time, the team seemed relatively mediocre - who was going to play SS, besides waylaid and maybe cantius, who was struggling in that tour anyways..? However, Waylaid ended up winning PL as a captain, clutching a reverse 3-0 against former 0-4 west player phiwings99. Things seemed to get even better once Cantius got second in a seasonal, VG Jungle WON a seasonal, and JustUhDude ate got a respectable 3rd place in a 1v1LT filled with solid players. West has always seemed to struggle in new gens, at least somewhat, with a solid old gens backbone, so the SS getting better and better honestly seemed like a fresh way to launch US West forward, who is somewhat known for under performing.

While everything was looking good for west, the hero, the savior, the head honcho GOLIAD was BTFO'd from the smogon forums, mere hours before the tour signups went up. This might have looked very bad for West, but it later proved to honestly not matter.

West's obvious issue was its newer gens, SS and SM. It went... 2-13. That's it really. That sank the team. It's pretty much impossible to salvage playoffs from there, especially in 1v1. There were probably some unlucky moments but that alone doesn't really make a 2-13 performance. According to Demigod Pazza, "I've never seen a team go from top 3 to bottom 1." West's process in newer gens just didn't work out. Each Old Gens slot went 2-1. Scraf, Gym Socks, and Synon all kept the team afloat until the very end. This was cool but overall highlighted the problem west had this world cup.

Westerners might label this pretty trash performance as a "building year", but what this was rebuilding seems to remain a mystery. West's best performance was last year, and they lost in semis to the team who won it all in some close games. There were 2 newer players starting on west this year. Gym Socks went 2-1 and farmed the way easier bw pool, and JustUhDude did the exact opposite and went 0-3 in a super tough pool filled with zioziotrip, denisthemenis, and ggopw. Neither of these performences are all too shocking. Honestly, I think taking eblurb would have shot west into top 4 for sure.

The least surprising eulogy, to be honest. While the dutchies have in fact won every world cup of 1v1 (on differently bordered teams, too), this year they weren't looking too hot. Every single starter on NWEU played in the most recent 1v1pl. This might seem good at first, a lot of experience, but literally every single one of the NWEU starters went negative in the PL, except for simbo. It honestly doesn't look too great when you shove 7 previously negative players onto a starting lineup and expect them to carry. Period. But hey, the dutchies have won every World Cup of 1v1. How could you REALLY count out the champions before any games were played.

And then NWEU played games, and it made sense why people thought this team sucked. Felucia, in 2020, started off the world cup by playing all 3 of their pools matchups pretty fast. She lost all of her series. Some wins and losses were spinkled in from here, but there's not much to write here. A team ranked pretty poorly got 7th seed. Iron Crusher in particular 3-0ed their pool, in oras, a gen they're not all that experienced in. WailJesus was definitely one of the best if not the best player on the team, and he went negative. At least they didn't get the last seed!

What's honestly more interesting than this mediocre team's performance (or lack thereof) is how Djokra considers 1v1 Rock Paper Scissors, or RPS for short. 1v1 has a lot of guessing elements yes, but this is in fact Djokra's 3rd time managing a 1v1 team tour. And yet, interestingly enough, this is their 3rd time also not making playoffs while managing. You would think after 3 times captaining an RPS tier's PL, they would lead a team into playoffs by now, right? For those unaware, Rock Paper Scissors has 3 options (which are in the name of the game), so for 3/3 of djokra's captaining efforts to do poorly seems a bit odd. Maybe they're just really unlucky. After all, this tier is all matchup and guessing. Honestly, who knows. It seems Djokra's straight to the point mathematical analysis of an easy tier has fallen a tad short of being true in this world cup. But hey! This team had fun for 3 weeks, maybe. Can't ask for more than that.

giving s/os and thoughts about wcup for my 100th post.

Downcoming3- eh let's just say this wasn't your tour, don't quit just bounce back stronger. I would be happy to team with you again.
LuckyPiper- my fellow mono goat won with counter Pikachu LOL. Didn't expect you to try at all this tour so I'm glad you built some funny/creative shit and I can't wait to stomp you in the next mono team tour.
Alakazam- Most of my friends don't like you, but you're not as awful as they make you sound. I was warned that you're mostly inactive during wcup which I mean ig was right. You were thrown in a tough pool so it's whatever, and you did drag me back to the cord after I almost cancered so that's a plus.
Akumajou- Doesn't even know how to build but is still the GOAT, nothing else to say but you're one of the nicest users in the community.
Monsareeasy- LOL for your first 1v1 tour and playing a tier you've never played before you did a good job (except for the metal burst game).
power- Was pretty surprised when you beat Kaif since you only play 1v1 once a year, thx for being apart of the team.
Yami- Respect you for requesting to sub out if you knew you weren't at your 100% best. I saw how busy your schedule was so don't let the public shit talk get to you and keep your head up.
Jamez155- Team MVP even tho you went 0-2, literally tried to help in every tier despite being on the bench when you should've been staring. Plus, you were thrusted into an awkward scheduling situation and didn't even retaliate when you were wrongfully publicly called out. You have my respect man.
Tol- u kissed your cousin.
ayedan- shit player(also a drug dealer), but you kept the team spirit even when we went on our losing streak. love you sir <3
blondesasukeuchiha- aye I know you were busy bro, things happen.

Notater Mubs Mishlef superstrike66 413XPlayz - thanks for the supporting/building for the team despite not being picked. my opinions have changed about all of you guys to a more positive light as you guys were probably among the most active in the cord and far less annoying than I thought.
pqs- Impressed by your commitment despite being snaked and not getting drafted even though you've been a good servant to east. I've already told you that I don't dislike you and I'm proud of what you did this WCUP.
RAV- helped me build a lot early, hope you get freed sometime my g, you've been locked up for too long.
SolarflareRo- thx for trying to help me vs nalei hopefully, we team again in TPPL if Poison Adhesive actually wants to win.
crucify- thanks for looking over my builds, can't wait to win trivia PL wit you.
eblurb- my son.
ggopw- garbage player, needed goats like me, crucify, and goliad to carry you :) (fuck you water polo headass)
Kaif- tried to help me despite hating everyone on my team, hope you guys win WCUP.
TheShadowClaw- sorry for tossing you in pools, but I found out you were a good person by talking to you after . Hope you do well in your next tour.
CashKP- lacrosse isn't a sport for rich teens
Maki's Fox- uwu

I think there's a lot of factors that led to the team's failure this wcup. I kind of felt it coming after the whole captain situation as I think we were the only team to have multiple pages during that thread which was just filled with arguing. Next, red flag for me was the draft. I thought the draft was too heavily reliant on the old guard and players that aren't as active as they used to be which kinda turn out to be true. Plus, drafting a player who has never played ORAS before was a bold move considering we didn't draft pqs or mubs knowing that the ORAS pool was going to be tough for a new player. I would say our pools being hard and players not trying as hard as they should be really led East to 6th as players were heavily reliant on people building for them rather than building themselves. For example, sorry to call you out DC3, but only using the same two teams against Bopher is just not a good idea in SS meta when other people were offering you teams, to use. Now that I called someone else out, I'll also criticize myself. I should have actively helped you build artic and helped teach you the meta as well as also try to build more for my SS teammates. Also, I probably shouldn't have flipped shit when I lost to Nalei and cancer the team, but that's just how I am competitively so I do apologize for that. Anyways I still had fun this WCUP, glad I was able to prove I wasn't a one seasonal wonder and I think East's failure to make poffs was just down to all the little things and hopefully, we will learn from our mistakes and come back next year stronger.

PS: East split next year is an awful idea, just look at eeu.

bless your souls.

Time for the shout-out post, a little earlier than I expected lol but nonetheless, here we go.

SiceXV my man, I’m glad u proved you weren’t a “one hit wonder” so to speak and you actively built for yourself or with others. Even though you tried to cancer, I completely understand where you were coming from. Hope to see you back next year.

Downcoming3 It took me a while to convince you to join the team LOL. And even if you didn’t have the best showing, you are one of the nicest people I know. Just keep your head up and I’m sure u will continue to do great.

LuckyPiper I respect tf out of the fact you and yami put your differences aside so y’all can team together. NEVER FORGET COUNTER PIKACHU.

Akumajou GOAT. I’m so glad you went 3-0 and I’m glad you succeeded using my teams too. You are definitely becoming one of the best players around here and I’m all for it. Just HMU if you ever need teams ;). Hope you come back next year.

Alakazam co captain, u weren’t super active as expected in the summer but you still helped out while you could. Hard pools for you but you showed out when you played well. Thanks for everything man and giving me the chance to captain with you :).

Monsareeasy (ORAS MAIN) Arctic. You definitely had a really tough pool and although u didn’t go positive, you still picked up a win which exceeded most people’s expectations for you. I’m sorry I couldn’t give the most help in oras since I’m not comfortable in oras but thanks for taking the role of starting ORAS when seemingly no one else wanted to.

power you should definitely be 2-1 but last minute hax in the stable series :cwl: you did good for not playing much since last year and I’m still glad that you and I got to prep and team together once again. Honestly an underrated threat in the BW scene.

Yami same thing as Piper, I respect you for putting your differences aside and teaming together for the greater good. You didnt have the best showing but I’m glad you put yourself first instead of playing the game when you aren’t at your best. I’m still glad to have picked you up for the team and keep your head up Yami :).

Jamez155 you didn’t have the best showing as you went 0-2 in dpp but you tried to help everyone in every gen even when u didn’t need to, so you definitely the goat for that. I’m glad u decided to help even when u were benched. You are so passionate for US East and definitely a vocal point in our success as a team.

Tol tol was in the woods and missed the scheduled time by an hour so I had to sub myself in :cwl: now I got a worse tour record than boat. I will never forgive you for this. But in all honesty, you the veteran presence on the team and can chill regardless of your position on the team.

blondesasukeuchiha I’m sorry I didn’t get to play you, you are still a good player nonetheless. Also I’m happy you enjoy me as a captain :).

pqs special shoutout to you, I will be the first to admit, I kinda fucked you out of a team spot even though you supported me and East in general. Even with that, you still helped East, passing people teams, giving help on building teams, and overall being there for help. Thanks a lot for that.

Notater Mubs Mishlef superstrike66 Ravonne 413XPlayz
Even though you guys didn’t make The roster, I’m so glad you guys decided to help. Just like sice, my perspective has changed a lot about most of you because of this tour. Once again, I can’t thank you guys enough for the help throughout the tour :).

Euphonos GOAT dpp, you are a great person and I wish you the best of luck in the playoffs. A genuine person deserves good things in life.

zioziotrip ggopw Kaif Le Creme Brule
Nothing in particular but y’all are cool people and I hope y’all continue to do well.

Rosa even though we have a mutual disliking for each other’s actions, I still thank you for letting me captain East once again.

well, final thoughts. I don’t wanna dig into why this team didn’t go as far as we expected as Sice describes it pretty well. I wasn’t as active as I wanted to be due to school, work, and having side jobs/hobbies that took my time away. I’m still glad I’ve gotten to captain an amazing team for the past 2 years with tda. I really don’t know what’s gonna happen for next WC but hopefully I get to captain then as well. As of right now, I’ve just kinda lost the passion to play 1v1 as most people know by now. Hopefully taking a break (after seasonal) will help me replenish my desire to play but this ss meta just isn’t enjoyable. Even if we didn’t go as far as I wanted to, I’m still glad I got to captain this team for the past 2 years and hope to make it 3. Well I hope everyone takes care and good luck to the teams in the playoffs.
P.S. Arctic had the same amount of wins as all of West SS lmaoooooo

I didn't do this for PL, but it wouldn't feel right to not do it for wcop
Bopher - I know you were unhappy about some of your games, but you pushed through for what is honestly a really nice wcop debut performance. awesome team presence, hope your shoulders don't hurt too much from carrying me when building. huge threat in the making, glad we managed to snag you after some uncertainty during signups

Potatochan - 2-1 in pools and 3-1 overall; what more is there to say? your building skills are borderline uncontested, and I'm glad that FINALLY you have some confidence in your picking which has honestly made you a serious threat. was awesome fun building with you and bopher all the time (cone three amigos™), congrats on a really awesome performance

Chickenpie2 - talk about a fairy tale comeback, seemingly appearing out of nowhere to go 3-0 in pools. you're a stupidly consistent player with mad building skills; sorry to have had to put all the pressure on you in tb. you are the heart and soul of cone and i'm glad to have had the pleasure of being your teammate

Ninjadog - some unfortunate moments during your games, but hey that's mons. your results don't reflect how great of a player you really are. thanks for tagging along again, my only regret is not providing enough support with newer / updated teams... guess that'll be something we fix up next year if you're around

OM - i'm sorry dude. you always fought hard and had to build all by yourself up until we finally managed to nab some support in tiebreak. didn't mean to make you feel excluded. wish that there was more i could have done behind the scenes with teams to take some pressure of you and make the best of your awesome picking abilities

Freddy Kyogre - my co-captain and cone founder. I know all too well that this wasn't your best tour for multiple reasons, but nonetheless you came back after an extremely rough start to keep cone from sinking. winning against the toughest opponent in your pools after a poor start is no easy feat, and i hope that you give yourself the credit you deserve for that one

ThatCabbageGuy - my man, the pressure you were under to perform on the last day of games. something like all 3 games within 10 hours, and you pulled off two extremely important wins in the most clutch of moments. basically built completely solo and went ham in a pool with no easy opponents by any means. cone literally has no dpp slot without you. can't express how important you are to the team

ExplodingDonkey - the more i get to know you, the less i understand about you. every team needs a bit of a clown to lighten the mood, and that's exactly what you did this past month. thanks for helping me keep my sanity

M24 - i know that all you want is a big chance to prove yourself. i'm sorry that it didn't come with wcop, but your team support and general input was great to keep us looking down the right track. go for broke in classic, you're no pushover and this could be your time to prove that. hit me up if you ever need anything my man

Corporal Levi - as per request you started out as a sub, and in hindsight maybe i shouldn't have kept you there. ty for putting your hand up again this year, always great to have esteemed non mains around

MAMP - was great to have you around. rookies are always a big threat; i think you 3-0d alakazam in ssnl or something which is why i figured it'd be good to take a risk with someone not quite as known. unfortunate that we didn't get a good chance to slot you in, but i have no regrets picking you up as a bit of a wildcard. thanks for making yourself known in the team despite being a sub, hope you stick around to explore 1v1 a bit more

also can't be forgetting KawaiiiiPotato, Swampboat, Ssitqc, ForgottenOnes and DannyDoritos. i really do wish everyone could have been drafted. regardless, you all stuck around and made for a friendly and enjoyable team environment. team tours aren't fun without good people, and i'm thankful to you all for contributing in your own ways
Djokra - you were always there for me when i needed to test teams or just practice in general. ty for your selflessness, i'm always appreciative of how you always drop whatever you're doing to help out a friend

Gym Socks! - I seriously can't thank you enough for coming in to support us for tb when we really needed some extra oomph. let me know when you want me to return the favor

Waylaid - between team testing and giving me ideas, you were a real nice breath of fresh air which helped me to stay cool and collected after an exhausting round of pools. you stopped my building from getting stale and predictable, and though in the end it didn't really matter much, i'm sure it would have been the difference between winning and losing had i ended up playing in a decisive tb match

Boat - you didn't really know it, but simply having you there just to chat and casually test teams / talk about mons / talk about shit in general was always something that brought me down to earth and stop me from getting burnt out towards the end of the tour. thanks for dealing with my shit (you know what i'm talking about)

Baleblaze - I appreciated all of our spontaneous stupid chess battles whilst I was in the midst of building. you didn’t say a whole lot regarding my building / playing, but what you did say had a profound effect on how I think my style will develop post wcop. ty man
it was a blast to serve as a first time captain. obviously i wish we could have made that final push, but i have no regrets and hope all my teammates feel the same way. super happy and proud of my team, lgi next year cone <3
