Yugioh! TCG Thread

My little brother. I left after the first day and he called me after he won the next. I can tell you that he did not win on luck because he knows pretty much every possible eventuality in yugioh.

Wow, I *just* noticed this thread :o

I used to be totally into YGO, but i quit about 8 months ago. Still have a lot of my cards, but have no clue what the metagame's like anymore. I could be convinced to start playing again..

Anyway, I was pretty good. I mean, at the February 2007 San Jose Regionals (one of the last events i attended) I Top 8'ed with a Tomato Engine + Monarch Deck. And this was when Gadgets had just been released. AND i had no sidedeck.

I kinda want to get back into the game again now.

I'm doing regionals in massachusetts (forget which one) on saturday with my water deck.

I went to a local tourny and made it to the semi-finals UNDEFEATED and then lost 2-1 against demiseOTK (before new ban list)

I didn't lose a single game, against decks like perfect circle and chimeratech OTK.

I attribute my loss to an amazing deck and some lucky draws by my opponent, and also I had no sidedeck at the time.

My water deck is hella-tight.

Okay, I need some advice with making a sidedeck.
Help me out people!

This saturday, I'm going down to Boxborough, MA for regionals, and I need to construct a good side deck. I already figure I'll be sliding in 2-3 Dust Tornado, and maybe mobius, but I want to know what else I should be expecting to run into and how to stop it.

The basic strategy is to get a tadpole in the graveyard by battle, get two more to my hand, and save the other two for PWWB or LV or Abyss Soldier or Cranium Fish to line up fast destruction (with almost no cost) and start chipping away at their LP until I can pull out Des Frogs. I do NOT need to use the frogs, it's not like I depend on them.

Hydrogeddon + Umiiruka is devastating and forces the opponent to waste destruction on them early, plus they act as tributes for Aoi and Cranium and pull out of my deck. Ocean's Keeper has been lining up some really powerful blows due to his effects. He pierces defense, with Umiiruka as a 2000, and if destroyed by battle, he pulls a Cranium Fish out of the deck. Then I can salvage him, play him, and special summon Cranium and drop the tadpoles to deal with any face-downs.

I pair up VERY well against Perfect Circle, I'm not sure what to expect from DAD, but I assume it's going to be pretty straightforward. Rush can be a big problem if I can't gain control of the match fast enough.

Any suggestions?

Ah, yugioh, some good memories...
I havn't played since last march, but I recall the addicting game =p

Some guys round my area been workin on forming a new team, idk whether ill join on it, ive kind of lived out my yugioh fun

Played for Team Rampage before I quit, I don't even know if they still are on the scene, havnt talked to Jon in forever, and to be honest, don't care lol
I don't know whose good anymore... I played when it was dominated by Kris Perovic and Overdose, and the Rampagers, and Nexus and Kim and so forth.
And then the newer guys that hit the scene like Mooseman and Ramon Liriano. Mooseman actually was interviewed by me, and if you scroll back to his first feature, JGM credits that interview to his interest in Chris.

Anyway, I have piles of cards and what not I'd love to rid myself of. lol so jus throwing out the idea for anyone interested, I should be abel to dig up a list =p

Kay, rereading this thread makes me wanna get back into Yu-Gi-Oh! >.>

Hahaha. Thunderpup, I looked at your deck (I stopped playing like during Ancient Sanctuary, I believe?) and you have a really great strategy. I love those frogs, they seem so cute.

So I'm guessing there are a whole lotta strategies and deck styles now. I used to play Legendary Ocean / Fisherman / Tornado Dust (the trap card that was like really annoying if you were playing against a Umi deck. the one that wouldnt let you attack.)

Anyways, what can get me started back in? Are there any good structure decks out, cause I'm limited on money. (I'd probably just play online or something, because there are no tournaments over here.)

Are there actual differences in decks now? When I played there was only one real archetype, and no change within it. Every deck was just
tutor monsters
Cyber Dragons
Monarchs
Hydrogeddons
Staples

I played for about a month and got tired of 0 variety/powergaming ass-holes. I'm probably going to play WoW again unless someone can convince me otherwise (Still have powergaming ass-holes though).

So, apparently this is the Gold Series. While we will be getting good cards, people will be a tad dissapointed.

I mean, there's 7 Coloured Fish.

Yugioh wikia made an april fools day joke.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Gold_Series_2008_April_Fools

I was wicked excited and let down
it just made me mad

oh yeah
there are 27 commons in that whole set
so when you open the first pack, you just got all but five of the commons in the set
...

and that leaves 18 gold rares, meaning you'd need to buy at LEAST 6 packs (at somewhere like 30-40 dollars a pack) and spend hundreds of dollars to be assured a crush card virus

seriously, this is really not even fucking worth it
I'll still get one just in case

the gold border isn't even that cool
