Yugioh! TCG Thread

Just so you people know, synchro dad is the most popular deck in ocg aside from explosion and dark gaia(they have arms hole and dimension fusion at 1). Stardust dragon is rape.
So... buy that tin. Ok.

Will we ever get Arm Hole? or is it too combotastic with Premmy, Kuraz, and Magical Stone Excavation? Hell if they ban Premature Burial couldn't Arms Hole be perfectly safe. I wouldn't miss it that much... Ban Reborn, keep COTH banned, and limit Limit Reverse to one while they're at it. Wouldn't that greatly limit graveyard revival which is so splashable? I wonder if the new Plants and Zombies would then run rampant being the only graveyard recovery. Ugh, wish I knew more about this game to actually give potential answers that don't raise more questions

Arms hole would kill the game. Magical explosion decks running arms hole and kuraz would rule the game and turn every match into solitare trials. Most games would last one turn. Arms Hole would also make Ben Kei broken as fuck, along with Six Samurai being able to abuse United We Stand more than ever. DDT would be able to cope with Dimension Fusion's absence with the potential abuse of gamebreaking cards like the previously mentioned United We Stand and megamorph. Plus Premature Burial>Kuraz combos would be ridiculous as well.

Arms Hole is what we do NOT want.

ahem

Village of the Magic Type
Field Spell
If you control only Spellcaster-Type monsters, your opponent cannot activate spell cards. If you control no Spellcaster-Type monsters, you cannot activate spell cards.

terraforming = bye bye magical explosion

edit: or some weird magical variant which cannot be stopped?

That card... it's not even fair... lol

With as powerful of a field spell as that, I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of spellcaster lockdown came out of this.

yeah they are making some broken fields.. about time though. Necro Valley, Sky Scraper 2 and Ancient City Ruins was about all the spells that were worth running before Zombie World and Village.

Village of the Magic type will make some spellcaster lockdown build top tier. I see it ruling in future formats, as we aren't getting this for at least 5-6 months.

I hope he comes back so I can sell mine! I know it'd be awesome to run him, but so would running Mirror Force and I'm trying to sell that for a huge overpricing.

I don't feel like we should get Zombie World or the Village card. They're so powerful, they'd make a lot other cards seem broken (Zombie Master and any Spellcaster with a decent effect, there's enough of them)

Me, Petro, and 2 other friends of ours went to our first local on friday. My report:

^XCPetro (oppression gadgets): went 2-1. beat a little girl with an odd deck (warrior toolbox?), beat my friend's ben kei OTK deck. Lost to 6 samuari, we're still trying to figure out how to cope with that
new cards: shrink x2

Friend one (high level/ dragon deck): went 1-2. beat crystal beasts (which is the coolest deck ever), lost to gigaplant and some other deck i can't remember. Funny because I write him off sometimes as not being too good, but he's the only one who won the first round.
new cards: 5 headed dragon, dragon's mirror

Friend 2 (ben kei OTK): went 1-2. Lost against Petro and a deck I can't remember, but beat a crazy expensive deck owned by some little prick. At one point the kid got off CCV, luckily it doesn't do jack-shit to his deck. IMO the best match of the night, took down a $800+ deck with one barely worth $20.

Myself (macro monarchs/spirit/soul control mashup): went 2-1. I lost to big city, Christ that deck can be fast with the right support. I beat a strike ninja deck and a fusionist deck with a little luck. Creature swap was by far my favorite card of the night, swapping out my scout plane/vortex trooper for their malicious fiend is simply awesome.
new cards: treeborn frog, bunch of new cards for my skill drain deck

Overall, we did awesome for our first tourney, Petro and I could have gotten into finals had there been more people or if we had a better record. The people there were wicked nice, cept for that 8 year old prick with CCV. Friend 2 had to go over the math with him like 4 times just so he would accept that he got beaten.

Also, one question. I had two people agree with me, but I got shafted by the tourney director because he says it wouldn't work. If vortex trooper is destroyed and macro cosmos is on the field, does he get his second effect? We say yes, he says no. (I'm assuming the discrepancy is that macro cosmos isn't directly removing things from play, unlike say Caius. vortex is still destroyed, he's simply going out of play and not to the graveyard)

Petro, you may add anything you want.

edit: holy crap village of the magic is broken.

I just wish the game wasn't so expensive x_x. Back when Trooper and Machine Dupe dominated with Trooper going for $70 apiece, and then it was the last straw when Il Blud came out and he dominated and you had to have 3 of them in order to win. Is it still like that in the metagameright now because I wouldn't mind coming back to Yugioh since I have a lot of free time this summer. Ever since I quit after going to last years nats, I always missed the good old days of Yugioh. I rarely visit Metagame anymore but I did just now and saw that US nats is today. Just curious but is anyone from Smogon playing in it?

Captain Kirby has a brother there, Jonathan Moore, who is a well known player that got his Six Samurai featured.

My cousin was there too because the bastard got his invite awhile back.. he okay imo for not playing for awhile and being on budget.. 5-5 though still stinks but I give him props. He brought Samurai.. although I tried to talk him into learning GB but wasn't really interested in playing mirrors because he knew he wasn't good enough to win all of them.

oh and BlueCookies.. nobody ever played 3 Il Blud and got any recognition for it at big event but it was played at twos in the beginning but at its peak was played at 1.

XC.

Cards that say "When this card is destroyed" still activate in the graveyard.
The ONLY thing that activates in the RFG pile is DD Scout Plane.

Gadgets Topped 16 at Nats so I'm happy. Too bad Fossil Dyna is like 45 dollars and only going to go up now.

About Vortex Trooper, it's effect is supposed to activate the way the text reads. If you doubt it check out Giant Kozaky's ruling, it's similar. The problem is that the guy at the store believes Vortex Trooper to be errata'd. We need to prove that wrong.

The effect of "Giant Kozaky" that inflicts damage to the controller activates in the Graveyard or the "Removed from Play Zone", wherever "Giant Kozaky" goes to after being destroyed. "The End of Anubis" will negate the effect of "Giant Kozaky" if it was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, but "Banisher of the Light" will not (because "Giant Kozaky" does not have to be "destroyed and sent to the Graveyard"). Nor will "Skill Drain" negate the damage if "Giant Kozaky" is destroyed.

XC #2

They are similar, but not the same. The wording is different. "If" is different than "When." However, on a second reading of vortex trooper, I think it would actually work the way you say it does. Mainly for the omission of "sent to the graveyard" and there being a lack of other cards which read the same way.

If they omitted the phrase, and there are no similar cards, it had to be omitted for a specific reason, IE not requiring graveyard.

I'm not going to pretend to understand how "when" and "if" are different. That's above me and my understanding of Yugioh. I think we're just going to ask the guy to prove to us he's right, and we'll see how far that gets us...

So... I don't actually plan on getting back into Yugioh at the moment but recently I have been playing one of my old yugioh games (Eternal Duelist Soul) and I built myself an Exodia deck.

Basically I was wondering if anyone could help me form an awesome Exodia deck (since I can use it on the online simulators without having to spend 1000+ dollars)

First off I know Witch of the Black Forest, and Sangan are invaluable as they will let you bring a piece right to your hand. However IIRC you can only use 1 copy of each in your deck. I have not been keeping up with the game so hopefully they made cards with similar affects.

Basically my goals are

1.Bring Exodia to my hand
2.Prevent an opponent from destoying cards in my hand or deck
3.Ability to bring one or more pieces straight of of my deck into my hand via magic/trap/monster affects
4.Ability to bring back "dead" pieces back to my hand if they somehow are forced into the graveyard.

If it helps what I did in my game was make my deck a stall deck. I used monsters with high def. along with Chorus of Sanctuary (raises Def. of all monsters by 500) to stall out my opponents long enough for me to draw Exodia.

Meanwhile I tried to play GraveKeeper's servent as it would cause opponents to lose valuable cards every time they attacked me.

So yeah... I am not sure if that would work any longer considering there are infinintly more cards now from when I last played.

I am not sure if it is still allowed but Gravity Bind could also be a really useful stalling tool.

Oh and I know of a card called Obnoxious Celtic Guard which cannot be attacked (or destroyed not sure which) by any monsters with 1900+ attack. If I combined him with United We Stand I could have a monster with incredibly high attack that cannot be attacked back by anything with higher atk.

Are these ideas even good? I honestly do not know anything about the current metagame.

Witch of the black forest got banned.

Having a monster that can't be attacked doesn't mean much when all your opponent needs to do is remove a dark monster from their grave after summoning a dark armed dragon to destroy it.

The metagame nowadays is incredibly fast. Stalling doesn't work nearly as well as it used to. Granted, it works better now than it did before dimension fusion got banned, return from the different dimension got limited, and allure of darkness semi-limited, but it's still very fast. Therefore, your best bet with an exodia deck is also one that is very fast.

This is possible to do with cards such as allure of darkness, trade-in, destiny draw, and hand destruction (not to be confused with card destruction), all of which enable you to draw two cards, and you can use cards like reload and magical mallet for pure replacement of cards already in your hand. You'll definitely want to run some of the level 8 destiny heroes (dogma, plasma, and I think there was another but six mons would be enough anyway), not necessarily to use the monsters, but for your draw cards, as they can be used as fodder for all four of the ones I listed. Other cards you'd want to include to complete the dhero draw engine include element hero stratos, reinforcement of the army, destiny hero disk commander (and an accompanying premature burial+monster reborn, although limit reverse is out now, so that would also probably be worth looking into), along with destiny hero malicious, and the basically obligatory crush card virus (which regardless of what type of deck you run, if you have several monsters that can benefit from it, is worth running), and maybe dasher. Cyber valley would serve the purpose of both drawing cards and should a piece of exodia somehow wind up in the grave, would enable you to pull it back. You could run it with machine duplication to quickly get out multiple copies and for more mass drawing. Sangan, of course, is obvious, as is mystic tomato. That should give you a very solid foundation to build upon. Wait... er... nvm... scratch that last comment. That's basically an entire deck ._.

Well, since I've already said this much, you could also try looking into running dark world dealings with broww, which would also enable you to draw two cards, although it requires you to specifically discard broww in order to do that, otherwise you actually end up with a -1 (hand destruction is also a -1, but at least you're drawing two new cards), due to having to play the DWD, then drawing a card to replace it, and then discarding another card. Still, the broww is useful when in combination with other cards like allure and hand destruction (although you don't get to draw an extra card if you send it to the grave with hand destruction >_>). I also remember one deck running 3x toon table of contents with one toon cannon soldier for additional deck thinning (since TTOC only requires the searched card to have "toon" in its name it can search out itself), and you would then be able to use the toon cannon soldier as fodder for hand destruction or allure. Not the same devastating FTK that toon cannon soldier was able to be when dimension fusion was still limited, but still good.

Anyway, ignoring the fact that I basically gave you a full decklist, this would likely be more effective as a magical explosion deck, considering the cards used for making it fast are basically identical (although you're actually able to use cards like reasoning and monster gate in magical explosion decks, enhancing the speed even further). I've actually seen a build before that starts out as a magical explosion deck, then uses the side deck to transform into an exodia deck for when they side in the decrees.

Use this as you will. Now, I'm going to go build myself a magical explosion deck, as I actually haven't used one before. =)

Oh yeah, and here's the current ban list for your reference: http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/yugioh/en/gameplay/forbidden/advanced_current_new.aspx

edit: and kira, what's up with the avatar? lol

Well first off it is going to take me a little bit to understand everything you said as I haven't heard of most of those cards. I find it odd that WTBF received a ban.

Oh and what exactly is the goal of a magical explosion deck?

Oh and Mr.esc changed his avatar and I have been wanting to use his for awhile now. So yeah thats what happened to my avatar.

edit: If you could edit your post into a card list that would be very helpful. Though that would also be time consuming so don't feel obligated to do it.

You can look up the cards on http://yugioh.wikia.com or http://netrep.net/

I think the goal of a magical explosion deck should be fairly obvious once you read its effect. Fill your grave with spells, empty your hand, and go boom during your opponent's standby phase. Cards like dogma and/or direct attacks can make things easier, as it's impossible to kill a foe using a single magical explosion, and you might not always draw two in your first or second turn, even with your crazy draw antics.
