i'm preparing a very special update for this project, even though i'm most likely done with laddering. it should be done by tuesday or late monday in the best case scenario.

by the way, could you update my ranking on the hall of fame post (check this for reference) and put my name in bold on the registered users list?

Definitely Infiltrator. Bypasses the screens and Protect, extremely useful. Fake Out abusers are usually fucked by any Ghost-type, just look at Ambipom or Mienshao, and the flinchers will always paralyze you (Thunder Wave on Gyarados and Togekiss, Body Slam on Jirachi) before starting to parahax
This team shouldn't be admitted at the Dark Horse Project. Its objective is try different ways to battle, and your team is overcentralizated beyond imagination. Tyranitar, Scarf Landorus, Volturn. You copied even Virizion's set, which is your Dark Horse!
I fail to see the problem here. No one said we can't use standard sets. The goal is to show that lower used Pokemon can still be effective in today's metagame. If it takes standard sets to be effective, then let him be - sets are standard for a reason.

Oh i updated my dark horse to crawdaunt a while ago (edited the orignal post), forgot to make a new post about it though.

I'm finding that my team is very Scizor/Terakkion weak - which is half the metagame these days. Anyone got a suggestion for getting around it?

Here's the team.
Gallade The Dark Horse(M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Steadfast
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Shadow Sneak
- Fire Punch

Abomasnow (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Blizzard
- Substitute

Kyurem @ Choice Specs
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hardy Nature
- Blizzard
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

Golurk @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Fist
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Shadow Punch
- Substitute

Togekiss (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunder Wave
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Roost

Tentacruel (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Hardy Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Blizzard
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes

Any suggestions are welcome as long as you don't diss my Dark Horse Gallade :D

alphatron

Volt turn in every tier! I'm in despair!
I wouldn't dream of insulting the greatest dark horse Pokemon of all time.

I do question your Gallade set, as it looks like you're trying to run a bulky swords dance set on a Pokemon with terrible defense. That, and if a boosted fire punch can't save dragonite from skarmory, then it won't save Gallade either.

Either way, without forcing you to change your members of your team too much, you might want to go with a bulky go lurk rather than an adamant one (my secret second dark horse has been revealed!). Bulky golurk is the perfect switch in to a terrakion of any kind. Golurk doesn't do much to scizor, but by running a bold tentacruel in place of a hardy one, you'll be able to defend yourself against him for a bit better. You might want to mess with his ev spread, as his hp isn't good enough to avoid investing Evs in.

changing dark horse to mew, because i suck too much to use archeops. I think i finally have a good team and will begin to ladder again tomorrow.

Mew @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 108 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Psychic
- Will-O-Wisp
- Softboiled

Gonna change my Dark horse pokemon around, hail is getting its butt kicked with Terrakion/scizor everywhere.

Anyways here are the pokemon I'm using.

Adding on to Alpha's suggestions, I would also note that:

  • NOT using a bulky Togekiss for the paralysis role is completely counter-productive (especially since you're maximizing its Speed). By not investing in bulk, you're effectively leaving Togekiss vulnerable to Volt Switch and a bunch of random attacks that Togekiss SHOULD tank off. Togekiss isn't beating anything by a landslide, so make it specially defensive, perhaps with another option besides Aura Sphere. Flamethrower is an option since this team is so weak to Scizor.
  • I'm guessing the Hardy natures are mistakes, so please fix them immediately.
  • I'm iffy about the use of Psychic in Kyurem's moveset. If anything, Dragon Pulseis a better option over it for a secondary Dragon-type move (these things are common on Pokemon such as Latios and Hydreigon).
  • What role does Gallade serve on a Hail-oriented team?

I know... lazy as fuck EV spreads and it's not at all original, but it works!

Keep in mind I haven't actively played OU since before Thundurus was banned, so I don't understand the meta well enough to be very innovative... I just thought this was a fun idea and I wanted to get involved. I really love the way these mons play together though, and having a sturdy unaware poke like Quag opens up a ton of options in battle.

oh and heres a replay... I was using seismic toss on Blissey at the time I believe lol, I actually just changed it, so I don't have any logs of my team exactly as it is.

Hey you. Yeah you. Don't even think about it. You're not getting Togekiss.

PO Username: AGTesting
Hall of Fame standing: Currently none
Dark Horse: Togekiss
Current Ladder standing: 1377

This is the Pokemon I've been working with, and am highly comfortable with, despite its status in UU:

Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 220 HP / 36 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Roost
- Heal Bell
- Air Slash

I shall post with details in the near future as I ladder. Let me just say this though: Togekiss is an acquired taste.

Sorry man, I only have so much time away from PO.

Hey guys! I've updated the Registered Users list and the Hall of Fame. Remember, the Registered Participants list is the ONLY place that I check for updates in Dark Horse Pokemon and PO usernames. If something is amiss, please PM or VM me! While it's great that you update throughout the topic to let other users know your progress, know that your Registration Form is the official source that I go to. I typically make a round for updating once a day (by clicking on every name and checking every team), so your patience is appreciated.

Also, congratulations to fairytale and ginganinja! The two of you have been successfully added to the Hall of Fame. It's great to see that Quagsire and its fantastic ability can thrive and survive in OU; Lum Virizion is also an excellent addition to the Hall of Fame. Who knows who will show up next? Keep on laddering!

Although this is a competition, the Dark Horse Project is first and foremost a project. As such, I'll be swinging by later to ask some questions for all participants to give us a good scope of how Dark Horse Pokemon as a whole are doing in OU. If you have any questions that you'd like presented to the group, feel free to post them here or PM them to me if you'd like to remain anonymous. See you on the flip side!

OK, so it's been a little while, and it's update time. The dark horse pokemon I chose was Suicune; and so far, I'm going relatively well. I'm still climbing the ladder at a steady rate, but I feel like I need a little bit more something if I want to actually break the top 100 (currently I'm at 502nd, so I have quite a ways to go yet).

Anyway, this is the team that I've been using so far, and I'd really appreciate some advice.

Landorus @Choice Scarf
Sand Force
Jolly - 4 HP /252 Atk. /252 Spe
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Hidden Power [Ice]
-U-Turn

Suicune @Leftovers
Pressure
Bold - 252 HP/ 252 Def. /4 Sp. Def
-Calm Mind
-Scald
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

Celebi @Life Orb
Natural Cure
Modest - 232 HP/ 240 Sp. Atk/ 36 Spe
-Thunder Wave/ Heal Bell
-Leaf Storm
-Hidden Power [Fire]
-Recover

Heatran @Life Orb
Flash Fire
Modest - 252 Sp. Atk/ 4 Sp. Def/ 252 Spe
-Fire Blast
-Earth Power
-Hidden Power [Ice]
-Stealth Rock

Skarmory @Leftovers
Sturdy
Impish - 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Spe
-Brave Bird
-Spikes
-Whirlwind
-Roost

Blissey @Leftovers
Natural Cure
Bold - 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Sp. Def
-Wish
-Protect
-Toxic
-Seismic Toss

Just as a side-note, I've actually been running two different Suicune sets, thanks to some advice I had.

Suicune @Life Orb
Pressure
Timid - 4 HP/ 252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Spe
-Calm Mind
-Hydro Pump
-Ice Beam
-Hidden Power [Grass]

Both sets have been working out fairly well; when I use Offensive Suicune, I tend to use Thunder Wave on Celebi, and when I use Crocune, I sometimes opt for Heal Bell, in case I need to switch out while Suicune's resting. Any more advice on which set is better/ how I can support it would be really helpful :)

On to the team in general, once I decided that I was going to use Suicune, I started looking at the threats I had to cover. The first that immediately popped to mind was Rotom-W, which I knew I had to be able to thoroughly counter. So, who better than Celebi? The Tinkerbell set can simultaneously support my team with T-Wave (or Heal Bell) while being a diabolical offensive threat with 240 Sp. Atk EVs/ Modest - Life Orb Leaf Storm.
Then I thought, well, I have a water and a grass type - why not throw in a fire type for some basic, but good defensive synergy? That's where Heatran came in, as it partners fantastically with Celebi, can set up SR, take fire attacks aimed at Celebi, and then proceed to terrorise with it's powerful Life Orb'd Fire Blast.

This is where things get dicey. I ended up throwing together the SkarmBliss combo for several reasons: firstly, with so many Life Orbs on my team (3, if using Offensive Cune), wish support is really be appreciated. Secondly, Suicune doesn't hit so hard, and would probably appreciate some more hazards on the field to nab KO's (and I've found that there tends to be a lot of switching with this team, so Spikes + SR is useful anyway). Thirdly, I suck at really offensive playstyles, and I need a defensive core that won't compound weaknesses with Celebi/ Tran/ Cune (read: Celebi/ Heatran are offensive, and can't take too much of a beating). So, Skarmory and Blissey seem to fit nicely as members 4 and 5 of my team.

Lastly, while Landorus may seem a bit of an after-thought, it's actually quite important. My entire team is actually quite slow, and I need something with a bit of pace, that can revenge stuff while still keeping momentum up.

Eh, I don't know. This has become a bit tl;dr, and it was only supposed to be a quick update @_@
Anywho, comments would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I'm determined to see Suicune break into the Hall of Fame ;)

Is there anyway to make it so i gain more points everytime on win a battle on PO? Its getting so old gaining 17 for every victory. Also frostfire your team looks pretty good but i recommend giga drain over leaf storm so that you can sweep and gain some of your life orb damage back.

Not sure if you want any advice but I think that DD Rest Outrage Waterfall Kingdra is a lot better than the current version you have. Sure, Outrage confusion can kinda be a bitch, but rain boosted Waterfall (or even something as simple as +2 Waterfall) can cause massive trouble for anything that doesn't resist it. The idea would simply be get rid of the opponents Ferrothorn then set up to the best of your ability. It was a great set last generation -- so I'm kind of interested to see how it does this generation.

But maybe I'm just spit ballin' here!
