So... it's in D/P's coding that Electivire can learn Volt Tackle?

how would an item effect this..., he just bred an Electivire with Volt Tackle with a Ditto, and the child had Volt Tackle, I don't see how an 'item' got into this...

None, but something that's already "there" would have been known, since Lee confirmed that it indeed doesn't pass it, perhaps in Platinum Light Ball will work for Pokes other than Pikachu as well (breeding wise). This may seem weird but maybe it'll be a move tutor?
 
Someone should try confirming the rest of the suspects by hacking parents of the same species with Volt Tackle. This can clear up false information if there is any.

Or hack a Volt Tackle suspect and try passing it through PBR
 
Looks like my Humanshape idea is more likely now. Elekid can get it from Electabuzz, but Chimchar can't get it from Pikachu.
Humanshape=>Humanshape/Ground but Ground=/=>Humanshape/Ground.
Problem is no Humanshape pokes learn it.

Definately needs more testing though.

That is a good point, but then why would it be in DP's coding?

However...maybe it still requires Volt Tackle to be an egg move in part. Male Pikachu/Raichu with Volt Tackle; Female Chimchar/Monferno/Infernape holding a Light Ball.

Goodness, it could be more complex. Maybe the Infernape (and prev. evolutions) needs to know ThunderPunch, too. Maybe it needs to be two Infernapes with one holding a Light Ball and one knowing ThunderPunch. Maybe the Pikachu needs to hold the Light Ball.

In any case, it is still possible for it to be possible in DP because there are so many (at least somewhat) plausible theories. Of course, we could try it with Electivire and Smeargle, as that is what the OP claims.

EDIT: Well, the OP doesn't exactly claim Electivire and Smeargle...but still.
 
Bulbapedia does not state that those pokemon learn it as an egg move, which leads me to believe it's a future tutor move. Note that many pokemon don't pass down tutor moves which is probably why chimchar won't learn it.
 
Anyway this is amazing I never knew this, can any other pokemon get Volt tackle like this? not just those pokes in the humanshape group?
 
I know you saw the post, most people here seem to still be treating Volt Tackle as an egg move which takes some obscure method to obtain

As far as I know, even Spacial Rend Bidoof passes through PBR...
 
It would be good if the OP could tell us Ditto's and Electabuzz's hold items. Everstones, I suppose?

It could be Tytus' idea. I'm gonna hack a Machop with Volt Tackle, give me some time.

But Elekid does get it :/ It's inconsistent and makes no sense lol. And it's weird that if it were a tutor move, only Humanshape egg group Pokes would get it. Why not Raikou, Luxray, or Jolteon?
 
Well you can teach electabuzz thunderpunch via tutor and elekid learns it as an egg move ;)

And maybe it's just coincidence, who knows lol

well for one thing Raikou isn't breedable..., and if Jolteon could get it.. it would be in every Eeveelution too...

Well if they made it a tutor and only Elekid could get it by breeding when a parent is tutored in Platinum, Raikou, Jolteon and others could get it..

Gah I can't think about this right now. Maybe it's just some random bug like Fire Fang hitting through Wonderguard.

Yeah, only if your Electivire has Volt Tackle.

BTW, I'm with two Machamps, both knowing Volt Tackle, Close Combat, Thunderpunch and Counter. The male has an Everstone and the female, Light Ball. Let's see what I get.
 
sadly Volt Tackle ISN'T a tutor move, and if it were there would probably be an increased number of Pokemon who could use it... although could you pass tutored moves that were in Emerald, in Ruby/Sapphire?
 
Geez you guys you know that some tutors are passable through breeding and some aren't, it's not that surprising that elekid can learn it and chimchar can't >_>

But i support arael's haxxoring anyways just in case
