Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

There is something else worth noting movewise in Platinum: go look at what accuracy is reported ingame for Hypnosis: 60.

Call me when Spore isn't 100% accurate and I'll be excited. Also, I wonder how the calculator resolves this when you are battling DP vs. Platinum. Would the accuracy check go to the card the poke is on? To the side the effect would happen? Or would it default to the newer version?

here's another idea, it's not true

By the way, Salem, Superpower doesn't magically make Absol awesome. Fighting only hits a couple of things in UU that Sucker Punch/X-Scissor doesn't hit already, Steelix being the most notable. However, Life Orb Fire Blast is a clean 2HKO on Steelix already, and doesn't have the nasty side effect of forcing you to switch out afterwards with crippled attack. Honestly, it's not NEARLY the boost you make it out to be.

Gorm, Hypnosis always was 60% in Advance. *_*

Gotta say I think these changes are a little overhyped. They will probably affect UU more than OU.

PokeBeach and Serebii has confirmed these move tutors:

Pastoria Move Tutor (found on Route 212): Dive, Fury Cutter, Icy Wind, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Ominous Wind, Air Cutter, Zen Headbutt, Vacuum Wave, Trick, Knock Off, Sucker Punch

Snowpoint Move Tutor (found in the North East section of Snowpoint City): Snore, Spite, Helping Hand, Synthesis, Magnet Rise, Last Resort, Swift, Uproar

The third Move Tutor is in the Survival Area. He teaches Mud-Slap, Rollout, Superpower, Iron Head, Aqua Tail, Gastro Acid, Wring Out, Outrage, Ancientpower, Signal Beam, Earth Power, Gunk Shot, Twister, Seed Bomb, Iron Defense, Bounce, and Heat Wave.

I'm not sure how Hypnosis works in battles where Platinum is involved, but you can check it yourself, the cart _does_ report 60% accuracy. I'm not sure if 70% was a bug in d/p (you never know) or what...the real question is what happens in wifi.

I play with Absol in every team I make in UU. I think I have my facts straight.

It would be nice to know what other gets Magnet Rise.

Salem1: What was that strange ex-...-...-te thing in your post?

I was quoting the definition of exaggeration. The guys I wanted to quote it for just couldn't relax for a split second it seemed. But then I decided to just not bother and make a mental facepalm instead. I can't even be bothered explaining why I personally find it to be a buff. For example, Steelix isn't the only Pokemon you'd be using Superpower on. Now I know that may have come off as a shock, but yeah. Also, I don't use LO on mine and don't want to rely on an 85% accuracy rating plus I always Baton Pass to my Absol, so the de-buff won't be an issue since it'll probably be overkill anyway and/or Absol will have done its job, meaning it can switch out on the next Pokemon if I can't KO it.

Guess I could be bothered after all...

I'm interested to know how wifi and breeding is now. In Emerald they added an IV calculator guy outright also D/P's wifi play was in drastic need of an overhaul to be more straightforward and usuable. At least it seems they fixed the speed of the game.

I just hope out of those move tutor moves certain others like Skuntank will actually get some good new moves.

Heh, looks like Heat Wave is a deadly attack in Zapdos' arsenal.

Good point, Skuntank is completely overshaded by other Pokes. No matter what you're going to do with it, something else can do it better, and it can't do 2 things at once (which again, other things can do better anyway). Shame really as it's quite cool.

Not quiiite. Skuntank can do quite well in OU with a LO Mixed set, running Crunch / Explosion / Fire Blast / HP Ground. Not many people expect their Heatran to get OHKO'd by HP Ground or their precious wall ruined by Explosion.

I'm another person who does not think "Outrage" on a bunch of pokemon is going to shift alot of things(based on that alone). It's a 120 base power move that hits for neutral damage on everything except other Dragon types. It takes away one of the best moves in the game (switching) and a certain pokemon already have a move that's stronger than "Outrage", I'll site Nidoking's Earthquake as an example.

I can see these movesets changing alot of those currently in UU and at this point in time I'm glad we're planning to do a complete test of the BL's and NFE's (I hope I'm not so busy at that time -_-)

I'm actually happy with some of the additions some of the eeveelutions got. Espeon can now use a bug move to ward off dark types without resorting to using HP, and can be a somewhat of a sacrificial boost passer with focus sash and Power Swap. Glaceon's Barrier addition pairs well with it learning Mirrorcoat. Flareon getting Superpower is great for taking out rock pokemon

I'm curious to see if anymore additions to the eeveelutions come up though.

If Skymin gets Earth Power(which seems pretty likely to me), it will pwn.
Think about it-Earth Power/Air Slash/Seed Flare/HP Ice or Fire

Hello Ubers

Do you realize what poor coverage that is in ubers?(Other than HP ICE)
Seed Flare obviously being the best taking out Kyogre and Groudon.
But ScarfKyogre will kill with Ice Beam.
and a lot of ubers outspeed it.
Shaymin will not be in Ubers.
