Great minds think alike. Your design seems a lot more thought out and I like it a lot.
I probably won't get around to finishing mine (school = :/) so I'll likely vote for yours.

New Pose for my submission [Supporting Material]:
Easily my fave 2 so far, both look amazing. However, it looks like it is more Water/Electric or just plain Water to me. I don't know what to suggest to make it more Fighting-like without ruining the feel of the picture, as adding more muscle or something just makes him look a LOT less elegant, which is one of my favorite parts of the concept.
Karate Octopus? And here I was thinking my Luchadore Squid was kind of unique...
Again, Atyroki, gotta compliment you on the submission. The shells are a great touch.
I was pretty iffy about this one but after seeing the cartoons it looked pretty good to me, again, both look great.

There are so many water pokemon in the game, it's difficult to come up with anything that hasn't been done before. So I got inspired to do a pokemon based on scuba diving. As I sketched various ideas, one of them was kinda bulky and the hands and feet looked like they could grapple well. That led to the design you see above. I hope you like it!

So that's my first design, It's got like, some sort of sword and shield thing going on... but with a paddle and a turtle shell :/

The paddle isn't in his hand. His fingers aren't gripping anything. The paddle is shown levitating behind his hand.

Anyway, I tried making a few edits to my Karate Octopus idea.
His eyes now have a blue outline as to the old black ones. There's another, lighter ring around those to give him an "old sensei" look. His outlines slightly lighter now as well; It's wasn't very obvious in his old look.
So, is he better or worse in this fasion? I personally like it a tad more.

Well, seems like other people had similiar ideas to me, sucked going through this and seeing I wasn't as original as I thought, but I'm posting it anyway.
I immediately thought sea monkey myself, but I had a different thought process. I figured while the first form would definitely be a monkey, by the time it reached its full form it would be a gorilla.
Or the Gogilla, as I like to call it.
Webbed hands, fin like instruments going off those massive shoulders. The large brow, nose, and mouth are supposed to form a scuba-mask like structure. Had tubes going off it at one point, but they looked awkward. Bright color scheme, mostly the primary colors and white.

Also, I think the end of the tail on Calad's design would look nicer if it were a more metallic (possibly even rusty?) color, if only to make it look more like something you'd use as a weapon than something that's just in its hand.
My concept is based from the lowly wading bird the stork. It was meant as a sort of brother Pokemon to Blaziken and as a way of justifying flying based attacks which would be helpful against most CAPs. It's also not the most obvious creature to fill this role so this should appeal to anybody who likes oddball concepts. It's still subject to be edited as shown when its wing feathers were more rough: Link
It's good, but I can't shake the feeling it's got four feet and no hands.
I'd probably like it even more if the hands looked more "handy", or maybe it's just the way I'm looking at it.
My vote's split three ways between Atryoki's, Cartoons' and Wyverii's. They all have their quirky charms and would fit right in with the Sugimori designs!
Hey I love this one, and the way it moves in the animation is great. I could see it being fairly slow and defensive. I tend for whatever reason to think of fighting types in terms of being very tough-- literally. Like I could see a fighting water type as having a body with a similar texture to overcooked kalamari-- if tyranitar tried to smash it with a big rock or try to "crunch" on it, he'd never be able to fully tenderize it. lawl I'm weird.
Wyveri's submission also looks cool, looks fast.
I might submit a concept later on when I get my tablet set up. I was using opencanvas for a while but I uninstalled it, and lo and behold it's no longer free. Cartoons, what do you use to sketch with a tablet?

Wyverii's one is a very good option. But you need to make it bulky.

I tried what you said, and you were actually pretty spot on! He looks a little better!
Wyverii, I like your concept, but you might want to put a little skin on 'dem bones. puffing up his chest might do the trick!
