CAP 6 CAP 6 - Art Submissions

He's pretty much finished.

First, I'll get a white background around him soon (I'm used to saving images as transparent .png's blah blah blah).

Second, his pectoral carapace is supposed to be jutting out a bit -- as referenced by the lighting of his abdominal area.

I think this recolor looks a lot nicer and more unified :)

Okay, I took my old idea and whipped up a new version of it. This new one kind of is a montage of stuff, containing elements of a Basking Shark, Narwhal, Viking, Harpooner, and Octopus. I scetched out but my scanner isn't working, so this is after about half an hour in MS Paint...

Okay, after a few crashes in Photoshop, I have line art of my two designs

I love this design!!!! It's very cool. Make it look a little more watery and I think it will be perfect.

ugh, I'm having a time and a half of a hard time trying to get a color scheme in mind for this guy. Usually the colors just come to me, but I'm drawing total blanks now. Any suggestions?

KoA I'd go for purple trousers, green body/fingers, brightly coloured webbing/fins, pale whiskers/face bit and dark sides of the face. But this is just in my head so i don't know how it would look realised. Show me! :-D

I had actually colored the bugger up moments before your post but I did like the initial feel of it. I used few colors and made sure they meshed well together somewhat. Also, I removed the tail and replaced the feet with webbed toes for a more aquatic feel. I was kind of disappointed when my fire deer wasn't chosen...I have a feeling I will be Absolutely Thrilled! no matter which design gets chosen for this CAP. It's the greatest display of creativity and strong designs I've seen in this project yet.

Wyverii, absolutely great idea and execution. Your Pokemon designs always have a grace about them that capture the 'fantastic world' aspect of Pokemon that enthralled me as a kid.

Antarctros' elephant seal is close to the top of my list if it's not squatting up there already. I had an elephant seal avatar for awhile not too long ago, and this Pokemon really speaks to the inner ugly-but-he-doesn't-care brute fan in me. As far as masked wrestler Pokemon designs go, I actually prefer yours to mine (mine could still beat yours up though..).

I'm liking Atyroki's and still waiting for aragorn's coloured piece.

I'll probably be posting more squid, largely because he's just fun to draw.

I actually love CV's ('m a sucker for the sleeves), plus, it's a cool, overall design. It's not really fiery kill-all, like some of the others, which I feel kind of implies a more defensive Pokemon, along with the (kinda) heavy-looking clothing. It's also got a kind of "come-and-get-me" feel to it, which I think is actually kind of appropriate, since it's being built to take on certain Pokemon. "Yeah, Tyranitar, Crunch me. I dare you."

I like the Luchador starfish above. Especially since this guy is shaping up to be almost a physical equivalent of Starmie. Seems like it would suit him well.

This pose is great, but I think you could improve the tail. The thickness is very variable, and too uniform considering its length. It would look much more natural if it started thicker and started getting narrower until halfway its length, when it would remain the same until the trident end.


@Doug: Your design looks much, much better now. I still like other designs better, but now nothing looks particularly strange to me about yours, it's just a matter of preference.

I think that the concept fits very well with Water/Fighting pokemon. And the colors too.

I lvoe this design overall, though maybe you should experiment with some more poses and try a more reddish color pattern. I'd like to see him/her in a more agressive pose in particular.

LOL Drunken Master Sea Weasel. This gets major props just for being so original and employing the trademark pokemon Swirly Eyes. Too bad Own Tempo never came up in the Ability Discussion, because it would fit this to a T.

They're both good designs but seem a bit ill-suited to fighting abilities. Why, for example, wouldn't a fighting cephalopod have multiple fists given their base creature tends to have 6-12 tentacles?

Just not liking the peripheral items. An Oar is cool but um... wouldn't using an oar actually be a hindrance to swimming if you weren't in a boat?

I'm enjoying the speed at which this CAP is proceeding, darkie's showing great confidence in his execution of the revised process.

Anyway, I'm definitely not ducking out, I was just saying that there are a bunch of submissions here that I would love to see win as much, if not more so, than my own.

Here's a backshot of my squid, deferring his prize to his cruel and demanding master, Rey Mysterio.

Won't someone rescue him from this abusive situation and find a good home for him in shoddy?

it looks as tho wiverii had a similar idea as me, although she based hers off a stork, and mine off a crane (karate kid anyone?)

just a sketch so far to give you an idea. and now a few things to note:

-the belt over his eyes. i felt this would be a good way to add flavor in combination with the fact this pokemon will be having unaware. the great karate master as he is, he doesnt need his eyes to size up his opponents

-the gi (robe) is actually just part of his plumage so in the colored version it wont look like hes wearing clothing. it, and his arms/hands will be white, to reflect the style

- his body (head, neck and stomach) will be of a light blue color

- not included is i was thinking of putting on a crown (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8d/Grey_Crowned_Crane.jpg). if i do add it, it may only be for a female only version

- as for his body type, he can still be defensive and not be muscular/fat. more importantly, for what i was going for, i was hoping it would come off as a "light weight" pokemon. if it is voted as such it would be a great help of taking damage from grass knot.

I'd put it on the male version, since the males are always the "prettier" of the two genders in nature, but I suppose it would look girlier with a crown.

My first time to join a CAP^^ I think a shark is also a warrior of the sea, not only the pirates. Although I think it looks a bit too similar to Garchomp...

Might call this the main design, as I think it captures drunkmon the best out of the three I've posted.

I took Jagged Angel's adwise and made a new pose for the fighting fish, and tried to make it look allaround more fighting-like and not just fish-like. I'm still unsure about the colours, especially the green and the red on the body, and I'll need to try some alternative colour schemes on there. But atleast I made some progress, and I'll continue tomorrow.
