Ugggggh, if you win at the qualifiers, you still have to compete at St. Louis? They should at least have made St. Louis invite only to be more fair to the other 6 tourny areas. Now, it seems that Philadelphia is going to be the most popular location (with New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Chicago, and Canada being nearby) I'm assuming that there will be about 2000 people who sign up for seniors (there's no quiz?). That gives you about a 1/32 chance to even get in. Also, you have to be in the top 4 to guarantee yourself a spot at nationals.

As for Worlds, there are only 60 (30 per age group) competitors. That's less than last year.

Thank you ultimatedra!

Thank you so much ultimatedra for pointing that out. Still. My brother and maybe another friend wants to go, so we'll probably still go to Nashville.

I looked and didn't see anything saying you couldn't lose at a regional (Nashville) and still show up for the random pool at Nationals (St. Louis.)
That would give the three of us more of a chance to compete and win prizes.

Did anybody else see something that excludes that?

Of course not, its only logical, you can even go to all 6 Regionals AND Nationals and nothing is stopping you.

I also don't think Nationals will have that 128 player cap? Or did I miss that somewhere?

"participants will be selected via random drawing to meet the required 128 player limit, except that for the Seniors Category at the event in San Francisco 127 participants will be selected via random drawing and 1 spot will be reserved for a representative of GamePro, a gaming publication. "

This is too funny.

BTW - Team SLCPokemon will be attending Seattle, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Maybe Dallas.

"World Championship Qualifier events will be limited to 128 participants per age division. If more than 128 participants in any age division register on site to participate in the event, participants will be selected via random drawing to meet the required 128 player limit.'

Hmmm that sucks, Nats will be packed. I'm going to try my best to make the AZ tourney, and CA could be a possibility as well.

Pokemon Video Game Championships - Philadelphia - June 6th

I created this thread to help keep discussion about the tournament a bit more organized. I'll keep a list of who is attending and update it somewhat regularly. Let's keep the general tournament discussion to the main thread and use this one to talk about Philadelphia specific stuff -- announcing if you're going, coordinating carpools, and such.

Critical information for the people too lazy to find it themselves:
Website is http://origin.pokemonvgc.com/en/events/05.html
June 6th, Valley Forge Convention Center, 8:30AM-9:30AM signup time for the Senior(13+) age division.

Signups are on-site the day of the tournament. There's no online quiz or anything else equally as inane this year.

---

I'll start off by announcing that I'm going :) I'll be wearing a red Pokemon Staff jacket that I got off of one of the JAA employees.

maybe this thread should be for all qualifiers not just philadelphia since if one thread exists for each quilifier then there will be multiple threads. Anyways Phili is too far away for me to go play pokemon. If the mets were playing phili at phillies stadium that, i would go

If someone (hi tts) gives me a team I might consider driving since I'm pretty close. Put me down for "maybe" heh

I won't participate since tournaments aren't my thing, but I will say that I hope you guys turn out some nice Warstories (and start keeping up with doubles as well!).

Ah ha ha, I read the title and thought that the tournament had already taken place or something, I'm pretty amped to go since last year's tournament in NYC. So yeah, I'll definitely be going (if no obstacles arise in the meanwhile).

Will the European's Qualifiers be open to all Europeans players, or only the players from the country where the event takes place ?

Nightmare is clearly afraid that I'll get my revenge on him from JAA. Also, what tournament are you going to a week prior?

I am 100% sure that I will make the trip from Kalamazoo, MI to Nashville.

There is a 75% chance as of now that I'll go to Philly as well. If anyone in the Great Lakes region wants to catch a ride with me somewhere along my journey (or drive to Indiana/Ohio from further out west) and ride with me, let me know.

This very well may surpass Smocon 2009 in numbers!

I wish they didn't make people drive out to Valley Forge only to have 128 chosen out of a possible 1000 people that wanted to participate.

I concur, Evan. The only upside I guess is that the early start time will probably serve to discourage some people from going. It won't counteract the fact it's the only stop in the Northeast, though. Depending on how things go, I may very well road trip to the nationals >_>

Dang i was hoping on there being a regional in nyc!!! no matter cause i might be one of the few that flies to either texas or tennesee for the regional cause the one in philly lands on my b-day and im going for a job then. Good luck to every one.

On a side note theorethically you can attend all of the tourneys except worlds without invitation??
Tennesee would be a prime location because not a lot of will travel there to battle. i dont forsee alot of participants there

Say you get t4 or higher at a regional. Does that GUARANTEE you get to play at nationals? Or do i win my regional and then get to nats only to not be randomly selected and not get to play? I mean i would guess thats not the case but that means only 104 people will be randomly selected at nationals

K well I might do this (drive to predetermined pickup spot and get a ride with you), but I still have to make sure I can make it that day (I think my last day of school is right before the tournament). Otherwise I will very likely see you at Nashville.

Unless they change this at the last minute, battles are 4 on 4 and players do not get to view the other's team. Unless maybe, just maybe, they're mandating that trainer card thing for a reason and trying to simulate the whole 6 -> 4 thing on local wireless. That'd be sick.

Anyone in southern Ontario/Toronto region willing to carpool down to Philly/Nashville? Even Upper New York is like 30 mins from here. I don't drive but I'd pitch mad cash for gas. I realize this is during the school year and something like a week away from exams for most of us, but it's doable assuming you just take the friday off and head back on sunday or monday. Send me a PM if you're interested.
